Really Nice SUV
I really love my TrailBlazer. It is a very comfortable vehicle. Have had it 3 1/2 years. Only problems have been clearcoat peeling on rims(warranty fixed), temp control sensor (warranty fixed), and front wiper motor. The front windshield wiper issue was a recall that should have been fixed by the dealership, but a friend of ours (a GM mechanic) looked it up and found out they took the cheap route and didn't replace the whole thing. The only issue I have now is gas mileage. It is average for a SUV, but may have to trade off since I have a long commute. The computer says I average 17.8. At highway speeds (55-70), I have seen instant economy of 19-30 though. Have to readjust outside mirrors rarely.
Not a good SUV at all
I bought this SUV hoping it would be the best yet. However, all I have had is problems! The transmission was just replaced. I stalled out on a freeway ramp. Started smoking at 1,500 miles. The interior needs some work. The shifter should be on the column. Radio is confusing. Plastic is hard and ugly. Outside is the ugliest Chevy I have ever seen.

My TrailBlazer
After driving a 5-speed manual Chevy Silverado for 11 years, this is a dream car.
Last Chevy I Will Buy
Bought 1 year old with 27 K. Have had nothing but problems. 4 recalls. $1800 spent replacing computer modules at 90K. Very uncomfortable ride. Fit and finish are poor with huge, uneven gaps. Heavy body sway. Feels like a boat but less safe. The large space has come in handy a few times. I wish I could afford another vehicle.
TrailBlazer disappoints
This inline six should get much better gas mileage. With all city driving I am lucky to get 12 mpg. Very disapointing!
Very very good!
This truck is great if you can't afford one of the other big SUV's like a Tahoe or Etc... . I got mine for a great deal so I was please with the price. I only had the truck for 4 months but so far no problems !
best bang for your buck
I've driven all types of SUV vehicles and trucks, both foreign and domestic, and this is by far one of the best I've ever driven. Only minor service issues thus far, such as a suspension squeak. Driving is a joy, with plenty of balanced power. The ride is very comfortable, better than a lot of passenger cars. Although gas mileage is poor, what do you expect with 270 horsepower?! Highly recommended.
One of the best...
After test driving the 2002 Chevy Trailblazer I stopped looking. The Trailblazer by comparison (price/quality/comfort/ruggedness), by far beats the competition. It's reliable and Chevy has outdone itself on the level of comfort and ride. Not only does it ride like a luxury car, but it also LACKS the boat-ish ride that most SUV's have been cursed with! It's quick off the draw and it has more then enough low end torque(275 ft lbs). The engine virtually wipes most others off the map, being an in-line 6 cylinder, with 270 horsepower that beats ford's V-6 AND Jeep's in-line 6 not to mention ALL of Jeep's V-8 models!
MY TRUCK IS RUSTING
This truck was purchased at the very end of 2001 so has now been through two Michigan winters. After only 18mos of ownership, RUST has developed along all of the doors lower, inner edge seams and along the inner underside of the hood. Rust is the equivalent of cancer in a car, almost impossible to stop once it has gotten a start. In this day & age, there is no excuse for this lapse in quality. My opinion has gone from one of joy to despair as this truck is not going to last as long as I had hoped...just more money wasted. Too bad, as this truck has been mechanically trouble free.
The lemon in the bowl of fruit.
Sharp looking vehicle; good fuel economy for an SUV; handles well; However, lots of repairs, rattles and noises. Overall, it has all of the parts of the puzzle. It just wasn't put together well. Disappointing!! Selling it ASAP.
Back to GM
Traded in a 99 Dodge Durango that was getting a little long in tooth. Have been watching the TB for awhile now, reading reviews, talking to owners etc. and decided I would give GM another try after two (shame on me) not very good 94 and 96 Jimmy experiences. Using GM BuyPower picked up an LTZ this last week. Overall good buying experience, pricing, and dealer delivery. I am initially very very impressed with the car. This is a Caddy in an SUV skin. Give yourself a few days to program everything! If the vehicle reliablilty holds up then this will be a winner. I'll let you know.
Love My Trailblazer!
Luv It! Great so far! Luv the smooth ride & quiet engine (except when cold). Have had 3 weeks - Bought as used vehicle - got a good deal! First tank poor mileage - 11 mpg which depressed me, but noticed all tires were low (24 lbs) - After proper inflation (32 lbs) 14 mpg/city, 21.5 hwy. (Check your tires) Didn't have use for 4W, but glad I have it -Need place to use 4W once a month to keep seals from drying, I'm told!
love it
Bought TrailBlazer LT in Feb.2002. Love the vehicle. I get 18.3 mpg with air on. My wife bought a 2002 Lexus, she drives mine more, really likes the Onstar phone for hands free.
going deaf, you will have to speak up!
I have 4000 miles on this vehicle with four trips to the service dept. The engine and overall ride is nice, but it has such extreme wind noise through the doors that it is very uncomfortable and distracting. Dont upgrade the stereo you will not be able to enjoy it! They tell me the drivers door was probably welded to the frame wrong! Where is your quality control Chevrolet? We work hard for our money and will take it elsewhere if you cant make a quality product or fix these mistakes!
g
The Trail Blazer has good low end power but, in 0-60 times it is a dog. The Blazer has roomy back seat and also up front.
Chevy Trailblazer
3 months use, no problems of any kind
Poor Quality Chevrolet
In the shop at least monthly. The battery was randomly going dead. (bad cell). Power windows have had to be repaired. Rear brake lights module has gone out twice. Four-wheel drive module went out (4-wheel drive would not work). Power lumbar support motor went out. Wipers quit working. Trailer light plug quit working. Consistent rattle in the engine compartment on exceleration since purchase (shop cant find). Now there is a VERY loud high pitch sound coming from the motor. We would like to trade it in but the resale is so poor. After purchasing it one year ago for over $30,000, the trade in value is barely $20,000.
my truck
It handled great when I moved across the country towing a Uhaul. Awesome power!!
We enjoy our SUV
We wanted to find a reasonably priced SUV before we started our family. The Trailblazer gave us practically everything we wanted. The ride is nice, it has nice power and towing capacity. The fold down seats have been great, we have been able to get a new leather furniture set in the SUV, and only had to tie down the gate for the long couch. Only complaint is that there do seem to be some minor problems. Our gas tank had a leak, the rear AC stopped working this summer, and the battery would completely drain in the winter when the truck was not started for a few days. If Chevy could work out these little problems, the truck would be a dream!
trailblazer
great suv, fun to drive, great economy, great engine
would not buy again
Have had numerous problems with this SUV. An annoying hum, a squeak in the front suspension (that took several trips to the dealer to repair), the wipers quit working, the A/C quit working (twice). Seems like this vehicle has been in the shop more than in my garage. Build quality is poor for a $36,000 vehicle.
A Real TrailBlazer
This SUV really handles my bass boat well with its four wheel disc brakes. It has plenty of pep for highway driving while towing a boat and rides like a comfortable sedan. The stereo is great to listen to while driving and it has all of the conveniences that one would expect.
Great vehicle except
I've only put on about 5k miles so far. Coming out of a Blazer, it's a big improvement. Roomier and more comfortable with a fairly impressive turning radius. The gas mileage is less than desirable but somewhat expected with the SUV. The stereo speaker quality is "uhhh" okay.... Nice design too ! So far, no problems to speak of..
2002 trailblazer
My only complaint is a cold engine noise that quickly clears up, and a taillight recall, they're on backorder. Could also use a larger gas tank..
Love it, need more room for gas
I'm very pleased with this one. It's fast, it will tow my 22 foot boat, and it looks gooood. It's comfortable, but could use a little bit more room in the back seat. Child seat is very hard to install in the middle because the seat is shorter, to inclined and the split between seats makes it lack support. No problem on passenger side though.
Great Ride!!!
On road and off, this vehicle has performed wonderfully. 21K miles without any mechanical problems and much better gas mileage than previous explorer.
Not sure
I just got one used, the 2002 LS, so its a year old. Only problem so far is that on a cold morning, if I don't let it warm up enough, the tranny sounds like its racing even at 2500 rpms, and there's no power to the car, it just crawls. If I stop and give it a minute, the problem stops. Could be an exhaust problem, a misfiring piston, transmission, or I dunno what else. It's only happened 3 times, all on a cold morning. But its not even winter yet.
2002 Trailblazer LT 4 wheel drive
The Trailblazer rides very smooth and very quiet. It has plenty of power. I have had no problems at all with this vehicle. I previously drove a 1997 Blazer that I ordered new. I liked it, but the Trailblazer is far better.
WHERE'S MY TRANSMISSION ?
At 35,000 miles I lost reverse, second and my overdrive gears. The GM technician commented that there were problems like mine in the GM trucks that have identical transmissions. At 74,000 miles it fails again. Now here I sit, thinking GM will stand behind their product. WRONG!!! I asked GM if they are able to build a transmission that could last more than 35,000 miles...they laughed at me. I work for Goodyear/Gemini and you only have one shot with your customer. GM blew it!!! I would never treat my customers this way if I knew they felt uncomfortable with any product or service that I sold. BUY TOYOTA!!! Your best deal is great service, not a great price.
2002 Trailblazer gets rated !
Although the vehicle is a recent purchase for us, we seem to like it quite a bit. We did however, have a problem with the way they tie in the optioin packages. For instance, we wanted the sunroof but not the Onstar. They came as a package. We were unable to get the sunroof without having to pay the extra $965.00 for Onstar. Seems like a conspiracy.
I like it.
Very impressed overall with entire vehicle. It comes with some features that are new to me as a former Dodge truck only owner, ie automatic headlights, speed compensated volume on radio( although not needed, it is very quiet at hwy speed), strong I-6,and smooth acceleration and ride.
WOW! What a SUV!!!!
I am IMPRESSED!!! I had a TrailBlazer as a rental car to drive from CA- Vegas- Laughlin- & back to CA. Very happy with fast acceleration, driving in mountain areas, & the comfortable seats for long drives! I was so happy with the drive I am currently shopping to buy one. I was in the market for a new Jetta to replace my old one or a Dodge Durango. I couldn't decide if I wanted the SUV or a car. However, this SUV puts the Durango to shame! Durango is no longer a choice! The trunk had lots of space with extra compartments.
Rugged, Excellent Towing
This is my third chevy vehicle and by far the 2002 Trailblazer is the best yet. Excellent power, towing, service, ride. We just got back from a 4,300 mile trip and we averaged 21.3 miles per gallon. Not bad for having 2 kayaks on top. The new 4.2 liter is exremely powerful.
TrailBlazer
The Trail Blazer handles well under Colorado weather conditions. We are impressed with the SUV's pulling capabilities. The brakes, however, are a bit soft. Cheverolet should beef up the braking system in newer models.
Excellence
This is an excellent all around suv
Need to work the bugs out!
I am pleased with the vehicle overall but have had problems. I had the vehicle only two weeks when I noticed a whine in the rear. It turned out that the entire rear end needed to be replaced. Problems with electrical system I've had to have the wiper motor replaced and now the recirculation fan on the a/c isn't working. I'm also experiencing trouble with the automatic climate control system. Sometimes it blows cold and sometimes warm when set at 60 the fan speed changes even when it is set to manual control. I have also had occasions where the entire driver information system, including gauges, went dead on me. There is a wind noise issue with this vehicle.
Just Received
We just received our Trailblazer LT, and are pleasantly impressed so far. Seats are high, with ample headroom, and plenty of legroom in front, while things seem a little tighter in back. Body roll is evident, and steering is seems vague, but has an excellent turning radius, and is easy to manuever. Starting power seems slightly lacking, however there is plenty of power between the 4000 to 6000 rpm range for passing and highway driving.
Chevy trailblazer
I own a 02 trailblazer and I just bought it last year it has spent more time in the shop than in my driveway. It is now also in the shop for new transmission. I hate this vehicle. My mechanic said the housing was busting on the inside in big chunks. I gave too much for it and I am still giving with the problems I have with it.
Could be a awesome truck
I've had my TB for almost 2 years now. I like the idea of Bose stereo, but the side speaker panels rattle when the base hits from the speakers. Chevy shouldn't put bose systems in vehicles if they can't make it not rattle. Also, i realize this is an SUV and i shouldn't be cornering fast but the seats have no side bolstering to hold you in place. Are these only designed for fat people? Sometimes the AC wouldn't work. Sunroof motor wouldn't work on hot days and sunroof got stuck in open position. If they make better seats, tighten up the suspension and design the door panels to handle the Bose system, this could be an awesome truck.
excelent suv
i´'s the most powerfull suv in the worl. It's even most powerfull than the toyota land cruiser. It's very confortable!!!.
Major Headache
I purchased this vehicle used in 2002. The day after I bought it the headlight burned out and melted the socket for the bulb. A week later it melted the rear brake light circuit board. Not too much long after that, we had problems with the engine, it ate two batteries in a week, and now it still has a knock in the engine. The rear liftgate handle has broken on the inside, the driver side interior door panel is falling off, the plastic moldings around the handles are falling off, and the weather stripping is falling off. Needless to say this will bemy last Chevy purchase. Do not buy this model year Trailblazer. It's not worth the headache.
Opps We Made A Mistake
Lots of Power, great acceleration, good turning. Have not used 4x4 yet. GM should provide compass on all the TrailBlazer mirrors, not just LT. Rear area is large, spare tire is under second seat. Mats are useless. Paint chipped in first week. Driver's side mirror on visor HAS NO COVER ON IT. Be careful, it is disorienting. Have contacted GM twice and dealer, no help. Have never seen a car with the mirror uncovered whether foreign or domestic. Is a safety hazard.
The Princess Loves It!!
We've had this truck for 5 months now, and have just turned over 11,000 miles. So far, the trailblazer is everything to love and little to complain about. The big 6 cylinder engine is fabulous (my wife's words) and the styling is great to look at. I've been hesitant to buy a Detroit sport-ute, but this was clearly a good decision, especially with the incentives.
Response to Trailblazer by Knoxville
I purchased my wife a LT 2Wd last year and have been nothing but pleased with vehicle. The 4.2L does produce 270HP. Frankly, I was shocked to here you say that it will not keep up with the Cherokee. I know for a fact that there is not a SUV out there that can run with the Trailblazer. I even shocked a few sports car with the Trailblazer's power and speed. I suggest that you carry yours to the dealership and find out what's wrong. If Chevrolet would market and advertise the Trailblazer properly no one would buy a Explorer or a Cherokee again. CHEVROLET has a WINNER this time.
Thoughts from a new owner
I have had this car for about 3 weeks but have over 2000 miles on it. I am happy with the whole experience. I looked at all of the other mid sized SUV's and found this one to be an excellent blend of features. So far, so good. I have another 3000 miles to drive in the next 2 weeks. Time will tell whether I'm still happy.
Good all around vehicle
I like the power of the Trailblazer. The ride could be more stiff to handle a 6500 lb. trailer load that it claims it can handle. The transmission could also have a more solid shift. I love the room and it is priced fair. Overall I like it and wouldn't change much. I personally get great fuel mileage. 22 mpg.
Trailblazer
I love this truck. It if fun to drive on and off road.
Great but needs forgiveness
Overall I love this vehicle... except for the build quality... I had to have the engine replaced at 9500 miles... dealer said there was a gouge in the 5th piston sleeve... plus there have been some other smaller things... "other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" it has run great since the replacement though...
Impressed thus far..First Chevy purchase
Great truck! First SUV, first Chevy product (Previous Nissan). It is everything that Chevy built it up to be. Got nearly 20 miles/p/gallon on a highway trip at 55mph max. Only concerns: 1. Driver's seat feels unusually off center from controls. (brakes especially) 2. Received sporadic seatbelt and airbag warning. (went away after shut engine off and re-started) 3. Few workmanship flaws on exterior body. (ie weather seals with excess glue)
Nothing to brag about
I have owned this car for over 2 years. The leather interior and amount of drink holders is nice but the cheap looking dash and stereo system is a bad combination with the nice seats. Mostly the SUV has not been giving me trouble but one problem has never been corrected and that is the braking system which has been locking up at the worst times. Glad I haven't crashed into anyone yet.
