I now live in Alaska and drive alot to fish and hunt. Before driving up the intake manifold gasket started leaking. $400. also something in the power steering went out also $150. and the check engine light for the EGR exhaust valve 3 times cleaned myself and replaced. 68,000 miles are now on it and I woulden't trade it for anything call me crazy.
tahoe no more
I have generally liked this vehicle. City gas milage has been in the 11 to 12 range. I love its room and versatility. The major sore spot is reliability. I have replaced an altenator, brakes (twice) two sets of tires and now I require a new transmission. My next vehicle will probably be a Toyota.

Look out for this Lemmon!!!
I learned to drive in a Suburban and I've been a Chevy man since. I had a K5 blazer & loved it. I liked the Tahoe and got a 97 in 01 w/60k. I should have known truck was trouble when I drove it off the lot & the alt. went. Since then I have replaced brakes & rotors, rebuilt trans, replaced water pump, battery, starter, windshield wipers just stop working, trans cooler, built into the radiator, sprung leak causing all sorts of probs, the head gasket leaking all this under 88k! Believe what you read in the reviews. It's not reliable, brakes are awful, electrical system is bad & the trans is trouble
4 Under the Floor...
After dealer-servicing every 3,600 miles for the first 53,000 I put $800 into tranny repairs. I had no extended warranty. At 57,000 I put in a new tranny for $2,600. At 98,000 I put in another tranny (this one under warranty)! Five hundred miles later this tranny went bad too. Holy smokes!! GM still tells me there is nothing wrong with their transmissions. Yeah...OK!
Go Chevy
I purchased my Tahoe in '02 w/74k. She was a 1 owner with a fresh tranny! This SUV is the bomb! Done the average repairs: fuel pump, pittman arm, brakes and rotors. Rides great @75mph. Just remember it is a heavy SUV! You can not drive it like a car and expect the same results. (brakes, fuel economy, maintenance) My tank- Tahoe is holding its own at 167,000 miles with no signs of engine problems. If you are going to buy used, forget Ford and Dodge. Go Chevy
