Used 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV Hatchback Consumer Reviews
Reduce your CO2 emissions by 3/4, save big money
This car is all electric and is rated at an 82 mile range before you have to re-charge. Even though it is equipped with DC quick charge capability (80% charge in 20 minutes) with this range it is still a city car. If you live where there is winter, the range drops in cold weather but then climbs back up in the Spring. When it was highs of 20-30F here for a few weeks the range got down to 51 miles. Range climbs to close to 100 miles in the heat of the summer. Charging with your standard 120v outlet in your garage at the 12 amp setting takes less than 12 hr. You can cut that time in half or better by buying a 240v charger and getting a 240v outlet installed (or using your clothes dryer outlet if convenient). It is rated at 128 mpge, the most efficient production car in the world in 2015! Here in the clean power PNW it produces the equivalent pollution (from electrical power plant generation) of a 95 mpg gas car (UCS study). Compared to a 25 mpg gas car at $2.80/gallon for gas, and with PNW electric rates it also saves you over $1000 for every 10,000 miles driven in fuel costs. Maintenance costs are miniscule compared to a gas car, check a few fluids and tire pressure, and go for 10s of thousands miles. There's nothing else in the maintenance schedule! The regenerative brakes do most of the braking so disc brakes last forever. 140 hp and 400 ft/lbs torque - faster than any of my gas cars. 8yr, 100,000 mile warranty on the battery and electrical components. The battery has proven very long lasting - no worries. Every family should have one as a 2nd car for commuting. I have owned this car for 3.5 years now and am still very pleased. I have saved several thousand dollars on fuel and maintenance costs, and the only problem is the AC went kaput (idiot light on dash). I never used it and now that I think about it, there is little need with an electric motor in front of you that generates no significant heat as opposed to a very inefficient ICE which puts 75% of the energy into heat production. I still have one ICE car and this morning I had to clean up the oil on the garage floor from my recent oil change from where it leaked out of the trash bag from the used oil filter. ICE cars yuck!! Need to replace that with an EV! Over four years and still going strong and spending 2 cents/mile for electric fuel. Currently I spend 14 cents/mile for fuel with my 25mpg gas, road trip car. Do the math - save $1200 in 10,000 miles of driving. Yep, still need to replace that gas guzzler with an EV - getting closer. One quirk with these cars that I will eventually have to deal with is that the front wheels and tires are a different size than the rears thus not interchangeable front to back (inexplicable).. Thus, one cannot do the usual tire rotation (front to back) to maximize, and equalize the wear on the tires. i.e., the front tires wear out much faster than the rear. Probably within the next 10,000 miles I will replace the front tires only. For maintenance, I have spent a total of only $15 for windshield wiper blades and $100 for the 12V battery replacement in four years. We live in a hilly/mountainous region and there is always trepidation when I take the car to climb a significant grade (500 ft or more). However, in a eight mile trip up to a trailhead on Moscow Mountain it may show as much as 30 miles of range use to get up there, but on the way back I actually generate range with the regenerative braking and end up having used only about 16 miles of range for the whole trip. In other words it evens out on the return trip. The car now has about 24,000 miles on it and its lifetime efficiency is 5.3 miles/kWh. If you do the math this translates to 179 mpgE. It goes 179 miles on the equivalent amount of energy that is in a gallon of gasoline. EPA rated it at 128 mpgE city. Others have observed the same efficiency with this car as I have. I have no idea why this is but its certainly not something to complain about!

Little Dynamo!
You can't beat the performance of this car for the price. Especially if you live in CA where you can get an extra $2500 rebate. I love the acceleration on this thing and the instant torque. I must say it encourages aggressive driving because you know you have the power on tap to pass others where you couldn't with your typical Corolla/Civic/Sentra. The interior screams budget car, but it feels surprisingly spacious for the front passengers given its claustrophobic appearance from the outside. The car stands tall so it gives you the feeling of being in a small SUV. I like how it gives great forward visibility (rear visibility is pretty lousy though due to the large rear pillars and it's too bad it doesn't have a rear view camera).

One of the best cars I e ever owned
So I made the leap about 1.5 months ago to all electric. It was an impulse buy honestly. But I have not come to regret it. At first, I thought my love for this car was because of its newness. But I've discovered that this is no honeymoon period. I truly love this car and I am excited to drive it every time I hop in it. As a matter of fact, I have to bring it in to the dealer due to pre-existing damage when I bought it and I am having serious separation anxiety ready. LOL It is so much FUN to drive. It's acceleration is phenomenal and the handling with it. For urban and short range missions, it is perfect. I recommend it to anyone.
Am now a SPARK EV4EVR owner!
I've now owned this auto for 2 months and continue to be amazed by its quick, off the line acceleration. At a rated 325 pound feet of torque it gets up and goes at any speed. Getting on freeways and the ability to pass others is never an issue...the power is there, always. With such a low center of gravity the car handles extremely well, corners flat at sensible speed and has a solid, sure feeling. Not to light or overly heavy but has a positive feel, tracks well. The seats are supportive but I'd prefer more side bolstering with an added lumbar support, but for the short trips around town to work and back, these seats are fine. The leather wrapped steering wheel is a nice feature, slightly thicker and has more grip than the LT1 which has a thinner, rubber feel. A heated steering wheel, like in my wife's Volt, would be a welcome addition. The heated seats in front, though only with 1 setting, takes the chill off one's posterior and uses less electricity than the cars heater, which takes awhile to get warm, but once its blowing heat , works well. The A/C works great also. The Bose radio has the usual AM, FM, Bluetooth, Sirius XM features and sounds quite well for my musical tastes and can be cranked quite loud without distortion. Visibility is adequate, forward and to the side are great, its the rearward glances that can cause a concern. Blind spot monitors would help with this issue. I'm 5'10". Plenty of leg room front and back. I always set the driver seat for myself then get in the rear seat and there's enough room to be comfortable. The car is quiet, solid feeling and sure footed. It goes where it's pointed. The rear seats fold down 50/50 style and though they don't fold completely flat there's enough room for some bulky items. I recently loaded in a 3 drawer night stand with ease with many other items. I'll have to fold down 1 seat-back for my golf clubs in a few months, no problem. This is an all electric vehicle. I bought this after my lease was up on a 2015 BMW i3 Rex. The Spark is just as quick and though it doesn't have all the electronic wizardry of the i3 I found I rarely used many of the items available. I charge it twice a week, sometimes more depending on driving needs, on our Siemens L2 charger. We have a reduced electric fee schedule that is only 6 cents a Kw from 11pm -5am so it's very inexpensive to drive. Chevrolet lists this car at 84 miles per charge, it has never been below that and is usually 88-92. With great regenerative braking I've gotten up to 117 miles on a level road averaging about 40 mph. I truly love not buying gas. This car fills my needs and is truly a pleasure to drive, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an urban vehicle that is quick and handles great with enough creature comforts to get to your next destination, all the while passing every gas station!

Torque steer!
This thing is a blast to drive. I've had mine 3 years and use it to zip around town and take advantage of the diminutive size to run circles around the big cars. I don't use it for highway driving. Also, it has so much torque it's squirley if you floor it. Easy to clean plastic interior and mine charges overnight on 110v in the carport. The front tires tend to spin so they wear out very quickly and there different size compared to the back tires. weird, I know. Overall it's the best car I have ever had for city driving and for super low maintenance costs. The only drawback may be the 80 mile range if it's your only vehicle...
