Vehicle lost all acceletation on highway. Dealer could not find problem. Excessive cooling fan speed twice. Transmission so clunky it was distracting. Got rid of it at 14k miles.

Ever since the body style change in 2014 I've wanted a new Silverado. I had a 2007 Silverado extended cab Z71 4wd 5.3 that I bought new, it was a great truck, but it had 156,000 miles on it and I wanted a crew cab. I sold my old truck in December and looked for a month until I found just the truck I wanted at the right price. 2018 Silverado LT, crew cab, 4wd, 5.3, my dream truck. Before it had 500 miles on it I could tell something wasn't right. The 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd shift had a hesitation and was sloppy. At speeds 25 to 45 mph it felt like it would miss or shudder, not terrible but I could feel it. In the mornings it would idle at 1100 rpm, and run terrible for the first several miles. I took it to the local Chevy dealer and we drove it, they told me the transmission had to "learn" my driving style and it might take 2000 miles before it would improve. After some investigation on the internet, I found there was a lot of people with 2016 and 2017 with the same problems, GM actually has a name for it "chuggle and fish bite". I called GM and opened a complaint but basically got the runaround. At 2000 miles I took it back to the dealership armed with service bulletin numbers for the 2017 that were giving trouble. They drove it and said there was problem with the way it shifted but because the TCM service bulletins were for 2017 and my truck is a 2018 they couldn't perform thoses updates. But there was another ECM update and they did that and it shifted better. Bottom line is my truck doesn't run right. I have tried to call the GM customer service rep I have talked to last, he gave me his extension number. But I have left two messages and he hasn't called me back. I wish I had kept my old truck, it would run circles around this one.

Bought this truck 9 months ago has been in the shop 32 days for work since I bought it. It's a daily driver for the road to work and home so not abused at all. First it took them forever to figure out where the cab noise is coming from then when they did, it was the boot for the steering column, I have had the truck back a month and less than 500 miles and it's back again. Come to find out that is a common problem with this boot and its defective. My truck is a 2018 same look, model, style and the 2016, 2017, 2018 and they still refuse to design a new boot to fix the issue and keep replacing it with the same defective existing piece. My truck goes back on Monday for the exact same issue again.

$50,000 truck that vibrates, shifts bad, drives terrible, jumps and jerks. And the dealer says its the way the truck should drive. I have owned 3 trucks and a suburban with the same motor and tranmission and none of them drove like this piece of junk. Dealer says you can not compare them??? All kind of complaints on same issue but GM has done nothing.

Maybe I’m a little biased here. Maybe I’m more of a realist. Maybe it’s because I come from a different generation at the age of 44. Could be a lot of things. Well I can tell you that I have been a fan of all things automotive since I can remember. When I was a child ages 10-15 I can remember a few trucks in my neighborhood that where awesome. All of them Chevrolet’s. Growing up they never seemed to age. Always looked great. I simply admired them. Then I got older and started making money and buying all different makes of cars and trucks. I worked hard and purchased many new. First off a truck is well A TRUCK!!! The ride will never be like a car. The handling will never be like a comfortable sedan. They are purpose built to haul stuff and tow. Period. They will sometimes shake and shimmy. The transmissions will sometimes act funny. The interiors will sometimes make a noise. At the end of the day it’s a truck. Now with that being said my Silverado is fantastic. I’m a 6’ dude and weigh 212 pounds. The interior fits me like a glove. My truck is the LT model, all star package, tow package, crew cab, bench front seats. Black on black. Will the paint not be perfect? Sure. It will chip and I get that. Is the interior perfect? Well for me it is. The ride and handling is legendary GM. You feel like you’re driving a truck. It’s a quiet cabin. My wife loves it. Everything works as it should. The MPG is spot on. I’ve owned Ford trucks, Toyota trucks, Nissan trucks. All where ok in there own right. For me it’s a Chevy. My advice is go and test drive them for 24 hours. Yes there are dealers that allow over night test drives. Around the block test drives are a joke. If you love the ride of a GM truck then you will not be disappointed with the 2018 model. I will admit that the new Rams interior appointments are really well laid out. However it’s a Ram. Meaning fuel economy will be lower then GM’s. Resale value will be lower then GM’s. Oh and just for the record, Ram wasn’t the first brand to introduce coil spring rear suspension. Chevrolet was years ago. I hope this review helps someone out.

Good Tow Vehicle, Bad Ride

Douglas Simms, 09/11/2018

I am surprised at the poor ride of this pickup. I owned a 2001 suburban for 14 years and I thought that the ride would be similar. It's not. I live in Northern California and the freeways have been poorly maintained so the truck gets airborne on several on the bumps on 80, 680, and HiWy 4. When I tow our 5,500 lb travel trailer the truck has a low frequency bounce in the front and rear. However the interior is quiet, the seats are comfortable, and the entertainment center is good. The economy is very good for a V8 as I get 20MPG combined and 14 MPG towing. The truck has good power towing up hill in the Sierra Nevada mountains. There is now sway or tracking problems while towing.

I traded in my 2010 Silverado for a 2018, mostly due to the big discounts being offered after the 2019s came out. I loved my 2010; total reliability and excellent utility. Over the years I had driven all different brands of pickups, but the Silverado was the best of the bunch. I researched both Ford and Ram, but in the end I decided to go with the known quantity. I have not been disappointed. The 2018 has been every bit as reliable, efficient and useful as the 2010, plus it has a number of design improvements such as a bumper step, backup camera and Android Auto. On a 2000 mile road trip it averaged 20 mpg (5.3 engine with adaptive 4 cylinder feature), at one point getting over 25 on the highway. The interior layout (it has the cloth bench seat) is excellent, with plenty of storage. I was surprised at how much quieter the 2018 was than the 2010. Speaking of the 2010, I was pleasantly surprised at its residual value, another factor in my decision to trade. My only gripe with GM trucks is how the seat belt gets harder to put on over time. Update: July 2019. Just drove out to DC and back (1550 miles) got 21.5 mpg average. My wife commented on how smooth, quiet and comfortable the truck was. I have also noticed this truck gets better E85 mileage than my 2010; Chevy must have tuned the engine. Now I break even on E85 with a 20 cents per gallon difference. The truck does not have nave but I use Android auto, which is better in many ways than the Chevy nav on my Traverse. Happier than ever with this truck.

$49,000 lawn ornament

Bought a brand new 2018 Silverado Z71 LT 1500 and drove it off the lot, jumped on the highway and hit 68mph and it wouldn't stop shaking. Took it in the next day and they did the alignment and said it was so bad it was as if it had been an accident but there was no damage visible. Picked it up and drove it home, same issue. Took it back and they did a road force balance, took it home...SAME ISSUE. Brought it back a third time and now they have taken the drive shaft off and shipped it out to check its balance. So basically I have a REALLY expensive lawn ornament sitting on the chevy lot and a Chevy Trax for a loaner car. They don't know when I will have the drive shaft back or IF that will solve the issue. So I'm about to make the first payment on a truck I cant drive. Great product.

Poor product and customer service.i fieel like I got a painted PIG . They did not have any problem taking my money.

I have had this truck for 15 months now. It has been in the shop four times, and tomorrow will be the 5th. THIS is my way to work!!! Anyway, first the parking and collision electronics went haywire, the dealer told me I was nuts, then another dealer re calibrated it and it is fine. My front bumper looked 10 year sold after two weeks. The paint fractures off with insect strikes!! No kidding!! I was told that was normal, then if I lived on a gravel road that was why. So the rocks are flying in front of me and then I am running into them? I live on a secluded private road, just me, and I do not drive over 10 miles an hour on it as I do not like the dust buildup. So that was a few times in and still no resolution, they say that is normal. A body shop agreed with me, but to no avail. Now I have a severe rattling on the passenger side. Took it in, they said it was a protection plate and it was fixed. Guess what, that wasn't it and it is worse now!! I am awaiting them to tell me it is not covered by warranty. WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED!!! Trade in value is low due to front bumper and rattle, otherwise it would be gone already!!!!!

Trucks are now expensive, and this one is no different; but after 5000 miles I can say it was worth the cost (I think) Safety features (like active lane assist and auto braking) and handling are superb, while still reminding you its a truck (which is a positive in my book) Plenty of power for towing and passing, but decent fuel mileage. A very small rattle in the center front console that is a design defect but should be simple to fix when I get around to it, otherwise the truck is rock solid.

I had a 2013 Z71, which I was very happy with. I sold it to my son. The new 2018, feels a little newer. Just a little, because my old one only had 30,000 miles on it. I have a 5000 lb travel trailer. I have 7000 miles on the new one, mostly towing the trailer. Experienced zero problems. My truck had the six speed transmission. Maybe this is a better one, than the eight speed, as I can see from some of the reviews? It's smooth and flawless accelerating and cruising. Performs well in the mountains when towing. I only had it for six month and only have 7000 miles on it. I cannot think of a single complaint.

I purchased a 2018 Silverado 1500 lt2 with the Z71 package. It was outfitted with 4 wheel drive and a 5.3 V8 in crew cab form. It had the tow package with trailer brake controller. This truck hauled a 29 ft. Travel trailer weighing 6500lbs well. Over the 26000 miles i owned it, it averaged 14.7 mpg. The best 400 mile trip was 27mpg. When towing the trailer it averaged 10.5mpg. I never had any mechanical issues with it. The truck had great pickup and braking. The truck was great to the end when a car traveling in excess of 60mph hit me head on. I was stopped at the time of impact. The truck took the hit in the front end drivers side to middle of the grill. The front was pushed in about 12 inches. The front axle was broke in two at the u-joint. The truck was driven back about 85 feet m. From the point of impact. The reason for my review is that i lived and did not suffer any broken bones. I did receive bruises and am sore over a month later but i am ok. The other person in the other vehicle did not survive. Thanks Chevrolet! By the way, i went out 3 days later and bought a 2021 Silverado 1500.

Leased a 1500 Silverado - great looking truck, handled well and still figuring things out as I go. Here’s the scoop. Two free service freebies👍🤔 then I asked what the 3rd experience would be like? Service showed me🤔😔 $300+ really? Not even 20k Miles. Then on a road trip, 6 hours and half way into trip, I get the wiggly package, check engine and traction control light comes on. Say what? 13 k miles 🤔 stranded? Get towed? Rent another truck to complete weekend trip, funeral family get together, are we kidding?👎😔🔥 I called and spoke with dealership, on hold, while broken down on a heavily traveled highway, 4 lanes, no shoulder and little breakdown lane. Shut truck off, checked oil and all seemed ok. After being switched back and forth, I was asked some question? Then started truck and check engine light was on but no longer flashing. I was told, it may have corrected itself... say what? What if I couldn’t get through, hired a tow truck, rented a car or truck?, by the way....in the middle of no where....lions and tigers and bears🤔🤦‍♂️. Drove 200+ miles then returned 3 days later 300+ miles and the next day was fine, then day two was same crap....called dealership, told everyone busy, after 10 min on hold, I reminded and explained to service department what last 5 days have been like with a new truck. Tell me their not busy and can I bring truck in? I said on my way. Cancelled my appointment and went in, 40 minutes away. Waited 3 hours and then told all set. Not what I thought my Chevy experience was going to be like. Truly disappointing in so many ways....

I love this truck for many reasons. The gas mileage on the highway is 21-22 mpg on with the 5.3 V8. I also love the 6 1/2 foot bed on this standard bed model as apposed to many trucks with short beds with no room for a tool box and anything else. No problems with anything since the puchade. Have owned several Chevy trucks & Suburbans with the 5.3 and several with over 150,000 miles with no major problems

I used to love my 2018 Silverado Z71. That was until the cheaply made truck started to shed cheaply made plastic parts which costs hundreds to thousands dollars to replace. The overhead center console fell. The fuel filler broke. The A pillars are warped. I've replaced every TMPS sensor multiple times. "GM cares" If GM honestly cared junk like this would not be produced and sold. I bought this truck new in 2018 and spent thousands on maintenance and repairs but cheap ass parts falling off is something which should not happen and when they are so cheaply made they simply fall off, break, and deform there is no preventive maintenance which can be done. Thank you from the bottom of my heart GM. You sold a absolute piece of garbage to your customer who spent the last year fighting lymphoma and due to shoddy construction and horrible customer support to the point not one person from management has contacted me despite multiple complaints with my contact details you have lost a customer. This speaks to the absolute piss poor leadership and management from GM. Update last summer the dealership I bought this turd from contacted me. They made an off to purchase this pile from me and gave me a offer on a 21 Silverado RST. It literally was too good to pass up. I'm really happy owning a 21 Silverado.

Test drive this vehicle and make sure you take a lot of curves to check steering response. The vehicle will jerk a little to the right.

The truck that does everything “okay.” GM carefully put just enough equipment (and effort) in this truck to be below the other OEMs in some areas, equal to in others. They seem to take their truck buyers as unconditionally accepting. Maybe they are. The Silverado is fairly reliable. Fairly comfortable. Fairly safe. And it gets fairly decent fuel economy. If you just need something to get the job done without overly impressing yourself, this is your truck.

Proof That the Silverado Ages Like Fine Wine

Bought this truck brand new at the end of 2019, 2 years and 40k miles later, I’m as happy driving it as the day it rolled off the lot. This truck for me has been the perfect combination of functional practicality, with just enough technology to bring a modern feel to a machine that at the end of the day is a refined workhorse. The interior’s fit and finish is precise, not gaps, no rattles, no unnecessary tech bloating. My Silverado came equipped with cloth seats which are comfortable, and made of durable material that has stood up very well thus far. The venerable 5.3 isn’t the baddest mill on the road, but it’s proven itself to be a reliable, capable, engine that I’m confident will stand the test of time. The back seat of the crew cab is roomy enough to where even at 6’ I’m able to move my seat back without concern of passenger leg room, or a lack of room for cargo placement. I disabled the AFM (active fuel management) system (heard it could result in lifters malfunctioning) and even with all cylinders of the V8 in operation, Ive averaged around 20-21 mpg on the highway at 75mph at 64 miles per day. The truck’s styling takes cues from the same generation Camaro, and should maintain its modern looks well into the future generations. The only thing I haven’t liked as much was the factory rake the truck was built with, where the front end was more squatty than the rear. While this slightly improves visibility with heavy payload, and improves MPG (or so GM claims). I put on a leveling kit which corrected this, as I needed a fair amount of ground clearance for approach angles during light off-road jaunts. While the full extent of this trucks longevity is speculative, I can confidently say at this point in my ownership, my 2018 Silverado has proven itself in ever capacity from hauling capability, fun but modest off roading, respectable fuel consumption, and reliability which is my primary focus with any vehicle I drive. In short, this is truly a great truck.

So bad I traded it in 12 months after purchase!

I purchased a 2018 LTZ 4-Door model with only 11k miles in August 2021. This was my first purchase of a Chevy Silverado 1500. I wasn't able to find an F-150 or RAM 1500 in my area at the right price/low miles in southern New Hampshire. While the truck had all the bells and whistles and excellent interior feature, mechanically, this truck was terrible. It handled rough at speeds of 65 + and didn't have solid stability. Worse yet is the awful transmission that shifts the amount of cylinders to help conserve fuel. The transmission would jerk at times and felt like it was slipping. I brought it to a Chevy Dealership twice and they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission/that it is due to the cynlinder change feature. What a load of cra*!! I traded the Silverado in for a very low miles/2019 RAM 1500. The RAM handles rock solid and while I am not happy with losing money due to the trade-in, I learned a valuable lesson. I will never buy a Chevy Truck again. Good riddance!

The navagation is not pure navagation, but comes from your cell phone once you get it connected. Good Truck, no storage, you must add a tool box or add swing out storage over the wheel wells in the bed.

You're going to have to buy regular tires for this truck all season tires in the snow I don't work too well the exhaust car lags a little bit get better gas mileage once you a hit A- Which is great for a truck on the highway Not happy about the cargo space underneath the back seat Chevy should opt out to buy a to include that in the price of the truck1000 miles I got 26.5 on mine

Very popular and for a good reason. If you wait long enough you will find a deal. I have the same truck, except it’s an ‘07 with 150,000 miles and no issues. The new one is string, tight, with just the right amount of options (All Star Edition). I think it’s got the most comfortable back seat of the top manufacturers crew can editions (only the Tundra best it in my opinion). Strongly recommended!

I got a 2018 Silverado since day one a lot of noise in the interior also some defects on the interior but the dealer blame Chevrolet factory so they didn’t fix it. Now 2 years later I have to change the battery and the starter. Unbelievable the truck is only 2 years old and 20000 miles. I’ll never recommend this truck also the service on the dealers are terrible.

Got caught in a downpour , the brake pedal went to the floor when I stopped for a light . Once it dried out , the brakes were ok , but , I’m supposed to trust this ? Service writer wouldn’t acknowledge the problem because he didn’t witness it . Pretty much typical of most problems when you take one in . Besides a rod knock one cold morning , the iffy brakes and the thirsty V8, she’s a great truck lol.

The transmission in my 2018 Silverado 1500 is lousy. Lousy, clunky, jerky, loud. Had it to the only Chevrolet dealership on the island ( 1 1\2 HR away ) twice, then gave up. They can't fix it. Bottom line, I'm cured: will never buy any GM product again.

Gas guzzler, 5.3 engine. At 205k kms, intermittent check engine light on heavy acceleration into traffic, front wheel speed sensor failure (wheel bearing required as well), and of course, the lousy torque converters, AND noisy lifters and likely camshaft replacement. On a 2018, well maintained vehicle that holds how many litres of synthetic oil? Poor engineering. The pros: nice looking boat anchor. Never again. No more GM products for me. UPDATE: Comfortable, good power. However, 7k in engine repairs due to poor design at 125k miles? In this day and age, with no assistance from manufacturer for their design flaw? This GM family is done with your crappy products.

2018 Silverado Crew Cab Review

The vehicle is stylish both interior and exterior. The paint job appears to very thin for every small rock chip reveals bare metal. Although, under warranty, I had to pay approximately $189 to adjust the driver's door, despite the vehicle had not been in accidents. The water pump went out and the dealership service department was backed up four days and did not have a loaner. Thus, I paid $704 out of pocket to fix. The touch screen is jumpy at times and does not respond to touch.

I went from a 2015 Chevy Silverado blacked out edition double cab. I recently upgraded to the 18 Texas edition with all star package. Essentially you get LTZ without paying for it. So all in all I’m really happy with my investment. I am a lil bummed out the 2019 came out 3 months after I purchased my truck. Because i love the redesign but in regards to my 18 Silverado i love it
