Disappointed

I leased my truck based on Chevy reputation. Bad choice. Two major complaints - the seats are the worst. They are so hard. I have been using 2” of extra foam padding to be able to go anywhere over 20 minutes away. I live in NW Wisconsin and we has -35 for a couple days. I waited until the temp was about -10 and drove it to town. Shut it off, it wouldn’t start. Finally started and ran super rough, shifting only to 2nd then quickly downshifting . Had it towed to the dealer. They had 14 others come in with the same problem that week! What happened to dependability? I’ve got one year left in my lease and it can’t go by fast enough. Thus is a beautiful truck, but it’s sad they fell short on comfort and dependability. I do like the responsive 5.3 - awesome engine.

Back up lite is Blinding at night can’t see so it’s dangerous at night. Makes it pretty much useless if dark. Numerous people complain and nothing done by corporation to fix. Own up to it and have a solution!

Love the truck but hate the transmission

I love the truck overall, and the handling and ride quality, but I am extremely disappointed in the six speed automatic. Automatic has a known problem on these and Chevy will not acknowledge the issue once the tuck is out of warranty. I experienced problems with the transmission starting around 70,000 with it not wanting to downshift correctly and at 104,000 the torque converter went out and took the transmission out all the way despite keeping meticulous maintenance on it. This was my second Chevy and my first one did not give me problems even though that was an early 2000s model, but this transmission is beyond disappointment and it seems by reading other owners reviews they are experiencing the same difficulty. With the lack of help from the chevy reps I am now changing brands A few days after the transmission went out and was fixed the pushrods bent on a bank of cylinders due to oil starvation due to the cylinder deactivation design to save gas. Poor design and parts weren’t available to fix it and i ended up being stranded for a little over five months. Worst truck i ever owned.

First off, I traded in a 2018 Honda Ridgeline for this 2017 Silverado 1500 as I purchased a new camper and the Ridgeline wasn’t up to the task but was the best vehicle I have ever owned other than the towing capability. So I made the shift to the Chevy for greater towing capability and stability and this was my first mistake! This Chevrolet has been a joke as far as power, it drives like it has the eco button engaged and has very little throttle response unless you “shower down on it” like literally that Ridgeline was way more fun to drive and felt like it had way more power. Now let’s talk about chevy’s “learning” pile of junk 6 speed auto, loud clunks frequently while down shifting, pathetic delay in shifting in 1rst -3rd gears, sluggish acceleration, and top it all off, you will get the obligatory slamming of gears when the transmission is shifting to first gear in stop and go traffic. I had taken it to three different dealerships with these same problems and each time I got the same answer, “learning transmission”. This truck was fixing to be out of my hair as the only good side to the truck was the decent fuel economy but fit and finish of interior was vastly inferior to the Honda. Anyway at 25000 miles I finally found a dealership who actually acted like they gave a rip and looked into the problem. It was a bad torque converter, still drives like in eco mode but fixed the shifting issues. About 3500 miles after the torque converter replaced, I noticed a oil leak from the primary output drive seal, took it to the dealership with truck still under warranty and they said the seal replacement is not covered under warranty. This ownership experience has ruined me with Chevy, the very last GM anything that I will purchase. Unreliable junk as far as I’m concerned. I hope this helps someone make an informed buying decision going forward! Lesson learned, lesson learned!

Got the black edition WT/ 6.5ft box /dbl cab/5.3 used at 21000. Truck was clearly used as a work truck but didn’t care because I got it cheap. In the first 1000 I owned it I did notice the rough downshifts like others have said. Brought it back to the dealer and they “re-flashed” the trans computer and ever since that It has been very good to me (now at 80000). Ive had no issues with the motor, just make sure to check once a week at oil level and top up if needed. Also installed an oil catch can to help with the oily blow by building carbon on the intake manifolds. Also installed the range afm deactivation chip. Truck did have a slight shake to it at highway speeds but has gone away after I lifted it and swapped out some suspension parts (new struts, bigger control arms, bigger knuckles). Tows a boat great. Interior is pretty basic , cloth seats. Looks mean as hell all blacked out. Chevy recommended 87octane gas but i think thats bs, this motor has a comp. ratio 11:1:0 as well as the 6.2 but the 6.2 is called for 93. Any “hesitation” yall feeling in the motor could be from using 87. I run 91 and accelerates and holds rpms at idle very smoothly. Have had 5.3s in the past and they have all proven reliable if you know how to take care of it. Most people complaining on here shouldn’t even own a truck. 4x4 works great my truck has a floor shifter which is standard i guess for the WT models which i personally like better then the little electronic knob. Not a 5 star because the inside of the front wheel wells are very tight and requires trimming and cutting for bigger tires.
