I rented this car for a week when in San Francisco for a vacation. I parked the car before my next day going for a long trip to Yosemite. I accidentally bumped my elbow to the shift lever to the D low gear position without realizing it before I parked and left it near my house. The morning came I used the key fab trying to unlock the door but it did not open the door. Long story short I called the rental company for a tow truck to jump start it. The battery died because I left the shift lever at D instead of P. What a stupid design.

I bought my 2018 Chevrolet Malibu end of August 2020. My 2012 Chev Impala was rusting terribly, & the body shop advised me not to do any repairs as it would be very costly, & the rust would only return. So, I went to the car dealership & bought the 2018 Malibu. It has great style, a nice smooth ride., & contrary to some reviews, it has POWER. Perhaps it's the turbo, I don't know...I'm not a mechanic. The vehicle is roomy considering its size. There have been a few occasions where a sensor has caused messages on the dashboard. At one point, the engine light came on..& after turning off the engine, then restarted, the engine light stayed on. I drove around the block, & the light went out. After parking the car, & turning off the engine, I did a restart. No light. My mechanic explained that sometimes the sensors think something isn't right, which in turn triggers the light to come on. Once the sensor doesn't "sense" anything, the light stays off. I also had a situation where "reduce engine power' light came on. Actually, that light came on while I was at a stop sign. Upon accelerating (not speeding) the light went out, & the car was fine. Once again, my mechanic to the rescue, & he told me there very well could have been a little bit of moisture that the sensor picked up.These incidents happened nearly a year ago, & ever since I've had no problem. The thing I detest about this car is the keyless fob & push button start/stop. This leaves your car vulnerable to theft. If you go anywhere near the car & you have your fob with you, the vehicle senses the fob & it unlocks the doors. To keep your car safe from anyone opening the doors, or heaven forbid; driving off with your car, keep the fob in a faraday pouch, or wrap it tightly in aluminum foil. Seriously!! Also, keep the fob in the faraday pouch or aluminum foil even when in your home. Thieves can pick up the signal even with the fob in your home. I don't think GM had a very good idea when coming up with a keyless fob. I personally don't care that I'd have to go into my purse to find the key. At least I'd know I've done all I an to prevent car theft...MY CAR. Had I known that this Malibu had a push button start, requiring the fob to be in the car, or as I've just mentioned, I very likely would not have bought the car. Yes, the salesman went over the features with me, but I wasn't told about what could happen regarding the fob. I absolutely LOVED my 2012 Chev Malibu for reasons I've stated in a different review Too bad I only got 6 years out of it because of rusting. As the heading says, regarding the Malibu..."I LIKE it, but I DONT love it. Am I unhappy with the vehicle. I'd say no, BUT it's the push button start & key fob that really turns me off.

This car is a money pit!! Problem after problem. It stalls and the service engine light is a never ending story. I do not recommend these vehicles.

I bought this car used a year ago and owned this car for a year now and still really like it. This is the 4th car I've owned and my favorite. The acceleration is listed as 'lackluster' but it is very comparable to the Toyota Camry (the base model is at or less than half a second slower compared in various speed categories to the base model camry) and compared to many economy car's I have driven good actually. It's listed at 8.2 seconds 0-60mph, which isn't too shabby compared to other non-sport cars. I have driven the Fusion and Camry and prefer the Malibu's handling and interior and especially the fact that it's mostly made in North America. It has had some very minor problems that were covered by the warranty but nothing out of pocket. On a 500 mile highway trip I got about 40 mpg and usually get somewhere around 30-33mpg in mixed highway and city driving. I would definitely buy again and hope they do not actually go through and discontinue production.
