1993 Lumina APV 3800
Have owned vehicle for 13 years. 3800 has plenty of pep and gets solid 20 MPG day in, day out. Has done yeoman duty for us, moving kids back and forth to college, carrying lots of people, hauling building materials including 4x8 sheet inside. 7-seat interior is flexible; seats install and remove easily. Initially weird styling has worn better than many other 1993 cars. Plastic body panels don't rust or dent. A good solid vehicle.
"One of the oldest rides still on the road."
My wife was driving this 1990 Chevrolet Lumina APV when we met back in 2002. To make a long story short, I am now the principle driver of this soon to be antique while she gets around in a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. Ours is one of several still on the road in this area alone, so I bet there are a good many still out there across the country. Sure, I have had to make the expected repairs and all, but this Chevy is still going strong with 164,000 original miles on her. I am going to drive this van until the wheels fall off. I am presently looking for a bumper snicker that says "Don't Laugh, It's Paid For!"
It Looks Like a Dust Buster
It may look like a Dust Buster but it doesn't suck! Have had ours about 12 years now, 200k on the odometer... just had to replace the brake lines...that is the only money I have put into it other than, oil, tires and occaisional brake pads!
Our APV Minivan
I like the aerodynamics of it. just need more reliable water pumps. It goes through them like nothing.
Chevrolette Lumina APV 1991
This is an extremely functional minivan for children. However, it has very little space behind the seats at the back for transporting other items (groceries included). This minivan has a fiberglass body which never rusts. We had to replace the engine & transmission at 145000 miles. The center console broke at about 160k miles. We have seen other Lumina APV's with this same problem with less miles. The radio died at 170k miles. The heater fan went out at 210k miles, the drivers side door outside handle mechanism broke at about 180k miles. The second engine went out at 240k miles. No longer worth replacing, but the body still looks almost like new.
Lumina APV
My partner and I travel lots, and we needed a van for cargo and people hauling.I like the bucket seats becouse the seating is the most flexable than other minivans. I do most repairs myself, and this is one of the most easiest minivans to service. The 3.1 V6 is underpowered, but has good city fuel mileage. I haven't had any major problems, yet. The rear liftgate door is hard to close, and there's a few squeeks and rattles here and there. The low front step in height makes it possable for my grandmother to get in and out without help, unlike other vans and suvs. I'm happy with the APV. I'll own another one, but with the 3.8 engine.
Crazy ride!
Bought this van in 2004, now has 198,000 on it. This is the best 500.00 I have ever spent for a vehicle! Replaced brakes and oil changes, that is all. Now the heater core is blown. Doing it soon. One fantastic ride!
We loved it!
We got this van when my kids were 8 and 10. It was great for hauling everyone to and from activities throughout their childhoods. The front freaked other people out but I loved it and never had a problem getting used to it. Both my kids learned to drive in it. We always felt very safe in it too. Were were in one major accident with it only a year after purchasing it. The van fared quite well for hitting another vehicle at 45 miles an hour. We suffered NO major injuries just a few bruises. It was great for long trip too. You could adjust the seat to whatever kind of travel you were doing. The fact we have kept it for 16 years should give you a good indication how we feel.
#1
the smoothest, best looking minivan of its age. it is 10 years old and ive only spent about £3000 on new parts in the 10 years of owning it. great ride also featuring 7 bucket seats a/c and most features you would find on a new car today
3.8L APV is great
Engine is flawless. Drivetrain had weird leak that quit after a month. Has 139k, but almost everything is relatively new looking. It's the best high-milaged vehicle I've ever owned. It's power makes the Toyota Previa look pathetic, although the Previa was very reliable too.
3.8L Long life
Robust, Reliable, Exterior Fiberglass looks like new.
Best Car I Ever Owned
I love my Lumina. It's close to 200K and now getting ready to replace it. Has been the most reliable vehicle that I have ever owned and has been fairly easy to work on, no major problems since 1989 and gets reasonable gas mileage and power/acceleration. I still drive it on long trips. It owes me nothing.
Great Minivan
My 1990 APV is about to roll over 200,000 miles. Still has original engine and transmission as far as I know. This has been a very reliable van for my family and my business. I even used it to tow a trailer for a while and it performed very well. Parts are cheap and it's pretty easy to work on. M
Best In design
Very good support on body structure, peticularly front and side impact. Accelerates well, motor runs strong. Transmission shifts excellent for 113000 miles. Slight engine rusting, but no problems with mission capability
Love this weird looking van
When I bought my APV almost 8 years ago I never expected this odd looking van to last this long. It now has 210000 miles on it and shows no sign of stopping. Things are literally falling off on the inside I've driven it so much. This has been a GREAT vehicle. I just bought a 2000 Venture used, hoping that it's follow-on can continue this tradition.

Great Family Van!
Great reliable van. Gets great gas mileage. Rarely needs servicing. No rusting as its fiberglass. We love it!
Great mini-van!
Very good in town and even better on the highway. Over 120,000 miles on van and have no problems. Great power and towing capacity.
Can't Be Beat
Family Fun Van. Take Care of it & it will take care of you. Whatever the weather might be you can always feel safe in this front wheel drive vehicle. The battery is in an awkard position for giving one a jump start but other than that you can't say enough good of this van.
3 speed 120hp
The incredibly weak 3-speed engine helps this odd looking vehicle to move at a whopping 80mph top end. Aside from looking like an aardvark it is a fairly decent vehicle. NOT!!! this vehicle looks like a vacuum cleaner as well as an aardvark and other things such as the ghostbuster car.
