An update!
After another year and a half, I thought an update in order. Only problem has been brake rotors due to heavy road salt but completely covered by warrantee! You could not pry this car away from my wife! I still can't get over the gas mileage (3.4 engine)of 28 to 35 mpg and the great power in everyday driving! Drove it on a 200 mile trip yesterday and had to do some serious passing on icy roads. It handles great! Be sure to get antilock brakes and the power split bench seats! A great car all around! I would buy the base model again with upgrades--who elsehas a power split bench seat with this kind of mileage??
Great for BIG people
Edmunds reviewers must be little people. They feel the Subaru, Ford and VW are better cars in this price range. They might be, but I'm 6'3" and those cars are too small. I am happy with my purchase (I bought it in Jan. of 2000) and have not had any problems that the dealer didn't go out of their way to correct - all little things. The trunk is HUGE, the car can accommidate 5 full-size people and my only complaint is the use of way too much hard cheap plastic in the interior.

A quality car that is worth the $$
I love this car. It is very reliable and it sounds great too. I love cruising with the sunroof open, and the heated leather seats are great in the winter months. As far as gas goes, it is respectable. A quality car all around. It looks good from the outside as well.
First Sport Appearance Package
We bought it with every option from dealer's inventory. We much prefer th rear appearance with the Silver sport appearance package The steering wheel controls are nice, the hands free cell phone great and the seat controls very functional. I could use lower mounted cup holders in the doors and of course, more HP. The highway mileage is outstanding with one trip at 33 mpg using cruise control.
Impala
This is an all-around competent, comforatble and fun to drive vehicle. I love the sporty, conserative look and feel of this car. Power everything, spacious interior and torquey engine is a thrill. Huge on inside, mid-size on outside makes city or highway travel fun and comfortable in all american style!
