Doesn't shift into high gears in extreme cold temp
I just want to make potential buyers aware that the 2018 Chevy Equinox does not shift into higher gears during freeway driving in extreme cold temps. It takes about 20-30 minutes to warm up before it will finally shift into the higher gear. This will affect gas mileage. Chevy said they do not currently have a way to fix the problem. Also--pay attention to the tires. The traction isn't as good in winter driving as my previous AWD SUV (Santa Fe). The rest of the features are excellent. Great design, it has all the extras, drives nice, acceleration is good (when its not cold).

The Good, the Bad & the Worried!
I used to be a General Sales Manager of a Saturn Dealership, am a die-hard GM purchaser and have been for years, but I may change with my next vehicle purchase. The pick up in the 2.0L Premier is peppy and quiet and the ride is smooth, with the 9-speed automatic transmission shifting smoothly. The handling is good, the safety features are great (especially the lane assist to help with blind spots). But I was shocked to find that there are no adjustable seat belts in the front to prevent neck rub. In addition, the road noise is atrocious! My thought was that the Hankook tires are to blame since I had Michelins on my 2012 Equinox and loved them, but I have read that those 2018 Equinox vehicles that have the Michelins are also noisy. What the heck, GM? You produce a $40,000+ vehicle and don't insure the quality and smallest important features to be standard? No cargo net or rear cargo shade included? And a design feature I didn't consider being "picky" about is the lip or edge of where you have to lift your leg to enter the vehicle. It sits up about 5-6 inches from the floorboard, whereas in my husband's Buick Enclave and the Cadillac SUV there is practically no lip--the floorboard is almost even with the door ledge where you enter the vehicle, making it easier for older adults and persons with knee or hip issues to get in. The suggested/recommended gas to use is 93 octane, something I didn't realize until I hit 1500 miles, but I have seen no difference in the performance. With 93 octane being almost a dollar more than regular, I may return to using regular gas. And quite honestly, the price of the vehicle is way too high. Your competitors are giving as much in features for $5,000-10,000 less. Right now, I have 2500 miles on my vehicle, the auto start is not working anymore and the rear gate lift does not automatically work when I put my foot under the left side of the bumper. I really didn't expect to be back at the dealership this early in my ownership of the vehicle. GM, it seems to be a well-know fact--I have heard your warranty support isn't what it used to be. I sincerely hope this isn't a truth. You truly need to look back on your Saturn development notes.

My 5th Equinox
A lot of changes in the 2018 model. I don't like the Keyless entry and starting; would prefer a regular key which always works and does not need a battery. I just drove 13 hours two days in a row and the left side of my neck and upper chest were very painful from a bad seat belt design. Too tight and strap hits neck. I am 5'10" and medium build (160 pounds). I have put a safety pin in seat belt to it does not close all the way but when I get out of the car the seat belt now hangs without going all the way in. Miles per gallon are better than my other equinoxes. There is a malfunction in what is called the cabin pressure release valve in all models. GM knows about this and is trying to find a way to fix it. This valve allows cabin pressure to release when you close the door or window. These valves in the 2018 models keeps opening and closing as we are driving causing a thump thump kind of noise. There is a new seat cooling feature which cools the driver seat and the passenger seat, a nice feature.

Road noise regret
My Premier fwd with Michelin Premier ltx 18" tires creates a tremendous amount of road noise. I would suggest driving the vehicle for a day or two before making a purchase. GM and Michelin claim that there is not a problem with their product and the dealer is stuck in the middle and cannot offer any assistance. After eight months of ownership this vehicle still offers too much road noise. I have now owned this vehicle for almost three years and the road noise is still an issue. Also, the Michelin premier Ltx tires do not perform very well in the snow and ice. Other electronic issues with censors, etc, have gone undetected by the dealership.

Great SUV
Well after renting the LT model for taking my son from Wisconsin to Dallas, Texas for a football camp, I was sold. I put 3400 miles on it and loved every aspect of the vehicle. I mean what's not to love I averaged just shy of 34mpg the entire trip including city driving with it. The little turbo ecotec motor has plenty of power to get you up to speed quickly or get you around others on the road, just remember to spool the turbo before taking off. I was a little apprehensive about the noise at first, I mean I've always had six and eight cylinder cars and suv's in the past and thought the little 4 cyl would make a lot of noise. Not the case at all the engine was smooth and quiet. The vehicle, however, does have a little road noise, but is still better than my previous 07 impala. The HID headlights are awesome and bright and I can't believe it's standard equipment on the LT package. The mylink infotainment is excellent as well, great sound and the touch screen is very easy to use. Love the android auto function, now I don't have to look at my small phone screen for google maps as it comes right up on the infotainment screen. The seats are very comfortable and I feel like I'm strapped in with out even having the seat belt on, I do always where my seat belt. The back seat area is big and roomy. My 15 year old son, all 6 foot plus of him said he was very comfortable back there and loved the fact that he could recline the seat back. As for trunk/cargo space there could be more. The under the deck cargo area is a plus but item's have to be short to fit under it. I get what they did, they made the back seat area bigger at the sacrifice of losing a little cargo area. For me this is fine because my family of 5 will never use this vehicle for long trips as it's my daily driver for work and store runs and we have a suburban for our bigger trips. I love how it handles which is just as good as my wife's Taurus or better. It hugs the road and doesn't drift or sway on corner. The reason I bought mine was my experience with my rental. My equinox has 600 miles on it right now and I can't base any mechanical problems or other issues at this time as I haven't experienced any. I will repost if I experience any problems. I do suggest the LT model over the LS model as you get more standard features with the LT package than the LS package for relatively a small price increase and I do recommend adding the 1900.00 convenience package as it gives you auto start, side blind spot detection, rear blind spot detection, dual climate control, heated seats and the power lift gate. Speaking of the side blind spot detection it works great especially for those pesky drivers that like to sneak up on you and then continue to sit in your blind spot. Also with the my Chevy app I can start my car and unlock or lock my doors, if I forget to, from anywhere in the world right from my smart phone as long as I have cell service. Great feature especially if it's really hot or really cold out. Overall I love the vehicle and feel I made a great purchase especially since it had 18% off MSRP at the time of purchase.
