10 years later and still rides like a champ
I bought this car new in May 2007, almost exactly 10 years ago. Besides the recalls, there was little need to do any repairs or take it into the dealer for the first 7 years/80k miles. This car has been extremely reliable even after 128k miles, hitting a deer, and sliding off of a snowy highway into a ditch (I was young and dumb, give me a break). I will admit that I am a DIYer so whenever a problem comes up with my car, and like I said there weren't many the first 7 years, I'm quick to replace any needed parts, so it runs about as well as the day I bought it. There have been no issues with the tranny (dropped pan and replaced fluid at about 100k miles), the brakes lasted me a very long time (replaced front brakes around 90k miles, back drum brakes around 125k miles), and had to do some front end work around 120k miles. It's still a very zippy car with paint that looks fresh, even in the rust belt. The only problem with the car worth noting right now is that the front driver side speaker doesn't work, which also means that I can't hear turn signals and notifications from the vehicle in general, but it's probably just a short that I'll get around to fixing. All in all, if you're looking for a reliable vehicles that will stay on the road if you take care of it, I think a Cobalt is a reasonable way to go.

Naturally Aspirated Cobalt SS (65k to 85k)
What I really like about the car: The sound system hits hard, the steering is smooth and tight yet controllable at high speeds, the battery on this thing is amazing. I've left my key forward for hours and came back to it and it starts right up. You can use the cigarette charger to charge right from the battery. The car doesn't even need to be on! Why haven't my other cars done this!? Seriously good fuel efficiency! I fill up the tank for 21 dollars and i can drive hours on the highway and only go through a half tank! Its a fun little town car to be frank, and its good in the snow( and I mean really good). No slips or close calls all winter. You have clutch control! The back seats fold down for easy storage of fishing poles etc. The thing i can say is that there is rust building up in places but that worries me why? I've had to replace the clutch but now i'm better at driving manual so it won't happen for a very very long time. This car needs frequent oil changes , its just too sporty not to, and it drives much better after each oil change. I've also replaced the wipers for some reason they were broke. It's a great little car just make sure the one your buying lives to it's name....the COBALT> THanks.

This Car Rocks!
I find the car handles well, and picks up fast once you hit 3000 rpm. HP is actually a whopping 226! Outperforms a Corvette in the slalom and is kind of sexy in appearance. Watch out for potholes, because the car doesnt handle them well. I owned a '90 Z24 prior to the SS, and wow, what a step up! Keep up the good work GM! Look out imports and V8's!
This car got old in a hurry.
I bought this car new in January 2007. I liked it a lot, especially when gas was $5 a gallon in 2008 and within a week all the dealer lots were full of huge SUV's and no compacts were to be seen. Now it has 63000 miles on it and it's needed some work, especially the front-end (most of which is discussed in the "improvements" section). It was a very sensible car, and still is...but if you're not a DIY'ing shade-tree mechanic you'll be very disappointed with the early repair costs.
Sick Car!
If you put the money into your car like the intake system, big spoiler, tires and rims, and alarm system is very cool and fun to drive. I have only had a few problems but easy to fix. I hate the headlights though, very tough to replace!
