Used 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche Consumer Reviews
Transmission Problems
I've had my transmission replaced once and rebuilt twice in 36k miles. First was at 16K miles-all gears except 1st and reverse gone. Next was at 26k miles. Gears 3 and 4 gone. Next was at 36K miles last month. Gears 3 and 4 gone. I have just about every other oil change they have had to fix the transmission. I have owned this since new and never use it to tow.
As Advertised and then some
Just picked up and drove 500 miles rountrip to New York. Simply put it was a great ride. Did not miss the '04 Vette convertible for the weekend.. The Active Fuel Management worked. I got better numbers then the other review. However, cruse control is out or it will sit in v8 mode. iPod quality was flawless, sunroof was not noisy. I was also very happy with the build quality. Handling was fine for long windy thin roads from NY-VT-NH.

Nice truck, too bad it wasnt well made
Despite babying this truck, the transmission clunked into gear @about 27mph since it was new. The dealer replaced the shifter valve and it stopped lurching. Transmission blew up at 30,000 miles. Dealer rebuilt. The trans was flushed at 90,000 miles. 2,200 miles later the trans. is running at 200 degrees when under normal load. The back tonneau panels have leaked like a sieve since it was brand new. Can't imagine how others could have big fancy sound systems back there. I can't keep groceries dry! Seat stitching on leather back seat is falling apart (no one sits there). Dash is cracked from passenger airbag to drivers side. Dealer said airbag is still functional, but looks questionable. When the truck was brand new, I instinctively mashed the middle of the steering wheel to sound the horn. I inadvertently smashed in the cheap chevrolet badge. Sure is nice driving around looking at that for 13 years.Would have to replace airbag to fix it. Dealer did not retrofit for a cabin filter, which really sucks after having moved to FL form CO...A shoddy $40,000 truck. Should've listened when told "NEVER BUY A FIRST YEAR NEW MODEL OR BODY STYLE". It's an old tale that still very much applies.
Best vehicle I've owned, Driving it until it explodes!!!
I bought my used 07 Avalanche in 08 with 21K miles for $29K which included the GMPP 5yr/75Kmile extended warrant. The truck has performed well and I've used the extended warranty on the AC condencer, tailgate handle assembly, replaced the steering wheel (due to unusual wear) and a few other little things. The ride is amazing, it handles well in snow and it's extremely safe. I've had a few people run into my truck and while my trucK took very little damage while the other vehicles were destroyed. I'd rather have a giant tank of a vehile than a little death trap anyday. Also, with the backup sensors, I can park anywhere and once you learn the size, you can too. GREAT VEHICLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mom always said , do your homework son.
I've been a chevy owner for 22 years. This is the first time I have ever regretted buying one. I didn't know anything about active fuel management on GM trucks. After driving this truck for 3 weeks, the engine light started to flash. The codes P0301, 0455, 0521 were found buy my scan tool. That code P0301 will determine if I'll stay a fan of GM vehicles. That code has a price range from $700.00 to $7,000 repair bill. We'll see when I take this truck to the dealer tomorrow.
