Love it
I have loved these since they came out and finally got one.
Avalanche
Gets great mileage for a truck (about 20 mpg highway, but 18 in Atlanta traffic). Lots of room. Put the midgate down, and with a sleeping bag, the three teenagers can sleep while dad drives on long trips.

Love my Chevy
I never thought I'd like the smaller bed but not once has it ever been an issue. I love the locking rear tailgate and hard cover. I go camping in the truck and simply lay down the back seat and put my pillow behind the front seats and feet out in the bed. It's secure and comfortable. I recommend the Avalanche to anyone looking for something different without giving up their truck. Believe it or not the locking boxes on the side are pretty cool too. I go boating and I also trailer motorcycles to the trails and it's a good place to store my straps and hitch. The lock too so my stuff is safe. Plenty of room for the family and plenty of power to pull my 4,500 pound boat through the hills.
A versatile truck
Many have suggested replacing the removable glass with a rear power window that retracts into the midgate. I like the existing design. By lowering the midgate, while leaving the glass and tonneau in place, I get extra load space AND protection from the elements. I love the adjustablity of the driver's seat, especially the lumbar support. It's the most comfortable seat I own. I've owned trucks with both the 5.7 and 5.3L engines. GM claims the 5.3 has more power and better economy. That has not been my experience. The 5.7 always felt like it had more grunt and got better mileage. This truck needs both. I average 14-15 mpg. On the whole, though, a great truck.
04 Ave
Worth every penny. Comforable, reliable. Great gas mileage for a full size truck. Highly recommend!
TLC
I had a Tahoe before and I needed a truck for work but, I wanted the same amount of comfort and luxury that I had before. I was able to get the best of both worlds with this vehicle. The Avalanche is an outstanding vehicle for play and work.
Great Combo
The most comfortable, good looking, safe, rides like a dream and handles that way. The best vehicle I have ever owned, Honda must think so, they copied the style for their new truck. I have not had one problem with this Avalanche.MPG is 18.1 city 22.9 HWY Thats a fact.
Best Personal Use Truck Yet
This has to be the best personal use truck on the market. 16 mpg city, 22 mpg on highway, tows my 7000 pound boat without trouble, rides great, and comes standard with removable bed cover, built in locking storage (which work great as an ice chest), bed mat, etc. No mechanical issues, warranty expired without ever needing service.
Nice Truck
This is a nice, quite functional vehicle with lots of 1st class features. I did have trouble with the tailgate lock that took 3 or 4 trips to the dealer to get properly repaired.
2004 Avalanche 2WD
I purchased this truck for 2800 with 175,000 miles the truck had typical rust on the rocker panels and few spots on rear panel. The inside is in good shape considering the year, the engine has a ton of power still lift in in trans shifts perfectly. I upgraded exhaust to a Flowmaster to give that v8 a deeper sound. I love the rear panels they were faded when I bought it but plastic restorer they look new I can honestly say so far so good, about the only thing I wish I got the 4x4 model do to the snow we get in Chicago I will put sand bags and cross my fingers lol

2004 Avalance
What a great truck! It's is 20 years old with 300,000 miles and has been super reliable. I did the transfer case pump rub fix a few years ago and new rear axle seals and bearings. These were the only major repair items on a then 17 year old truck, with 300K miles! The mid gate is great for hauling full sheets of plywood and ladders. Bose sound system sounds very good. The Z71 package goes through just about anything, ice, snow, muddy fields. The ride is incredible for a "pickup" better than most new trucks and certainly more dependable. Just avoid the GM models after 2006 with active fuel management. My buddy is going on his third engine and transmission with under 200K miles on his 2011. This is my second 2004 Avalanche. The first Avalanche is still going strong, but a complete rust bucket. I use it for ice fishing in Minnesota and it still crashes through 4ft snow drifts without getting stuck. If you find a clean one, get it rust proofed and do the annual treatments to keep it mostly rust free. Manageable problems include the transfer case pump rub issue, problems with the HVAC actuators, cluster issues (got mine rebuilt for $150), plastic cladding fading ( I shot mine with rustoleum, looks great) and the typical GM rust. The truck is very simple to service and perform maintenance repairs on, even for the guys with vice grips and screw drivers for tools.

GM Hit a Home Run Here
I kove this combination of the midgate, was looking at the Ford X150. After, my Account told me to look at the Avalanche, I know why he my Account he does his homework and look at the number. Don't thing the Ford X150 is a nice pickup. The midgate on the Alavanche is the deal maker. It my daily driver how. Had a Big Range Rover, great ride; but was a big family wagon, not a useful 3th vehicle for my family. Also, have a Mecerdes sl for nice sunny day and weekend drives. Range Rover was a nice vehicle with a great ride. However, the Alvanche is so many type's of vehicle in one package. Brought may 2 year old 73,000 miles on it. Getting ready to buy another one a 2007 or 2008 like the new body
Great truck, but...
This truck is absolutely great. The ride is surprisingly comfortable, and it is plenty of room for my entire family. I have had two problems that the dealership can not fix, but are not a major problem because I am the only one who drives. The memory seats do not retain their settings, and the CD repeat feature does not work as expected. It seems to play all the tracks up until you hit repeat. The first problem is only a nuisance if my wife happens to hop in to take it for a spin since we are on opposite ends of the height scale.
boat and dive truck
truck is used for trips to florida and for towing of our 24 ft boat. very comfortable and a joy to drive, even while towing. although it seems to use more fuel then i would like, its worth it. very quite ride. the storage comportments are very handy and being able to lock up our dive gear in the bed is handy also.
