Used 2012 BMW X5 SUV Consumer Reviews
Surviving a BMW 2012 X5 SUV
I bought my 2012 BMW X-5 SUV brand new from South Motors BMW in November of 2011. I love the car, the way it drives, the quality of the exterior and interior BUT it has given me nothing but problems. It now has 78,000 and I must have fixed so many seals trying to stop the oil leaks. It still leaks oil. Yesterday, another engine light at 11:30pm at night coming home. I have changed the radiator, all kinds of engine parts, etc. In the last 12 months my insurance company has paid over $11,000 in repairs and I have paid about $2,300. Am I the only one with this issue??? I still love the car and hate to get rid of it. However, can't take much more. Does it ever stop? It is just not reliable.

Beautiful fun and strong but o longevity
I bought this 2012 xdrive50i used with less than 100 miles on it. Less than a year later I had issues with the drive train to be specific the front differential and the transfer case, fixed but continues to return. Now that's just the beginning, it started burning oil literally a quart a week. I took it to bmw in fayetteville NC for the oil consumption test and it failed miserably. They kept it a week to perform this test to tell me it needs to be repaired and updated with new parts that bmw knows to be design issues. Long story short the replaced engine that's already been changed clearly didnt fix the class action suite that the agreed to fix so now it's over 8000 dollars for the dealer to fix it out of pocket. So now I'm stuck with a high end SUV that smokes if it sits too long , burns oil and possibly the fix could still return fro. What I've been told by an imports shop who would do it cheaper but advised until they fix the problem like they said they would it may still come back.

Transmission blew at 80K miles
While it's sturdy and fun to drive, the transmission blew apart at 80K miles! That's beyond ridiculous. Cost $12K to fix :( I cannot recommend a car that had a catastrophic failure at those low miles. My Lexus and Infiniti are much more reliable. I will NEVER own a German made vehicle again. Who cares how it drives if it falls apart????!!!!!

Great vehicle!
I have had my X5 for 4 months now and it is a dream to drive. I get approximately 18.3 mpg in mostly city driving. It handles the snow very well. The x-drive is amazing. Great handling, great acceleration but there is a slight turbo lag which does not bother me. The iPhone hookup is great. Music sounds great on the premium sound system. Seats are very comfortable and supportive with the comfort seat option. The vehicle is very "smart" and has lots of electronic customizations available through the iDrive. The iDrive is abit overwhelming at first but after a week or so one can figure it out with ease. Ventilation is great in front and back. Exterior fit and finish is impeccable.
