Best Car I Ever Owned
I bought my 95 brand new in Bellevue, WA. This car has been nothing short of perfect. I had a 12 year old son, a prairie dog with a cage that was 3' x 4', and we skied a lot! We went to the mountains in snow, sleet and rain...we have experienced several tropical storms and hurricanes...we moved to the Arizona desert. This car has taken us here, there and just about everywhere. We had a minor problems in the beginning... Never any engine problems, we have over 230,000 miles and are still going strong. Wear and tear has had it usual issues, and we are going in for struts this week. Still have original clutch, tranny, (got a rock in the radiator) not the cars fault. Love this car!
Truly is the Ultimate Driving Machine
I bought this car in 1999 with 95,000 miles on it. From commuting back and forth from school I have racked up 240,000 miles on the car. Since then the only real problems I have ever had with it was thermostat, rear shocks (from lowering the car), left rear wheel bearing, and the fuel pump. These are basically all wear and tear parts. I owned a 1985 BMW 325e and it had over 250,000 miles on it. I got into a wreck with it and the officers pulled the badges off the car, gave it to me and said,"This car saved your life. If you were in any other car you would have been seriously hurt or dead." I upgraded BMWs to the 1995 so far this car has served me well. 240k with no eng/trans problems.

1995 BMW 318i Sedan 5spd review
144,000k and still runs strong and tight. This is a car that makes driving fun again. It's 14yrs old and rides better than some domestic brands that are only a few yrs old! The 5spd manual is smooth and crisp, the suspension lets you know what's going on and BMW must under-rate their horsepower ratings because I have blown away many V6's with my M42 engine. I run exclusively 5w30 Royal Purple and SHELL V-Power Gasoline. I also updated the factory plastic headlamps with a set of EURO 4300k HID Depo Glass Headlamps with angel eyes. Now I can finally see at night!
After 15 years - still a great car
I received the car in high school from my dad with 56,000 miles on it. I wish I would have taken care of it better while I was in high school because this car would have lasted another 100,000 miles. The car has 178,000 miles on it now and I need new tires, but I am going to upgrade to a newer 2004 BMW 330xi. I love this car because it is fun to drive and has classic looks to it. Still till this day I love looking at the car - it is beautiful.
Snookered by the ads
Bought my 1995 318i in 2005 with 165,000 km (about 102,000 miles) on it - it now has 217000km (about 135000 miles) on it. It also has rusted out rockers and right rear fender, cracked windshield, the cluster (mph, tach etc) no longer works, lower control arms are shot, struts shot, won't idle, and the drivers seat (it's cloth) is worn out. I have replaced the alternator, starter, O2 sensors 3 times, MAF (twice) and innumerable other smaller items for a total repair bill of about $3000 I paid $5000 for the car in 2005...it's now worth about $500. BMWs are fine...if you're willing to spend upwards of $1500 a year on repair and maintenance.
'95 318IS
Purchased this car with 19000 miles on the clock. Have meticulously maintained since. Only significant repair was replacement of the ball joints around 100K. Other than that, only routine maintenance, brakes, tires, tune-ups and fluid changes (I switched to all synthetic). Exterior still looks like new. Plan to keep the car until she reaches 150K
Fun car!
This is one amazing car! It was passed down to the wife and I from her step father. It has about 145,000 miles on it. The only thing that was replaced due to failure was the water pump. The muffler is completely shot, the radio stopped working, it has pinging issues even with premium fuel, with that aside, it is alot of fun to drive! I take it for mountain drives once in a while, and is very impressive. I can throw it hard into corners and it just sticks to the ground without any feeling of understeer OR oversteer. Very well balanced and solid car.
4-dr 325i
I bought this car 7 years old, but I know if I take good care of it, can drive it (almost) forever. The ride is smooth and comfortable, great for long commutes. Unlike most newer cars, the 325i feels solid, I feel a new sense of safety in it. Though 'safe' and 'dependable' this car is also 'fun'! Can brake on a dime, and is quite exciting on the open road. And NOTHING beats the jealous stares from people driving cavaliers and the like. :)
Best Sport Coupe
This has been one of my best coupes to drive. No other car handles as tight. The interior layout is also excellent. If these cars are taken care of, problems are infrequent. But they are very expensive to repair. My fuel economy is 20 City 27 Highway. I bought it with 92K in 2000 and it has 101K now and going strong. No major mechanical problems. Just the minor annoyances - electric windows got off track from an ice storm, taillight that has a short that I can't find.
Super Fun Car !!
This has been the best car! I bought it for myself, then my wife took it from me, then when our son turned 16 guess what? he took it. Great car for him. Handling is awesome!! Power is great and so is gas mileage!! No problems with this car, actually looking to buy another one in North Carolina. It now has over 235,000 miles and I wouldn't be afraid to drive it across country tomorrow.
Get one
I wanted a weekend convertible - this car is perfect for that. Mine is Morea Green Metallic (truly beautiful) with Sport Package. Fairly quick, very fast, superb handling. Bought it early '09 with 81,000 miles for $5300 and dropped $700 in it immediately for some needed attention. Stole it. Fantastic shape inside and out. It lives in my garage except for spring/summer/fall evenings and weekends. Love driving it to Kansas State football games in the fall. Very handy to have around when one of my daily drivers is in the shop.
Rock Solid German Tank. Slow Tank.
To pay off a handful of loans I sold my previous motor, an 03 RSX tip tronic for the E36 coupe I've always eyed since my youth. Not disappointed in the least bit. Even with a 15 year old suspension, drivetrain, etc, it behaves in a more composed and solid manner than all the newer Honda's our family has owned. It lacks some in acceleration but makes up for that fully in its timeless, class act looks. Interior still looks new. After a careful detail (wash, wax, wheel clean, etc.) it still gets compliments from folks in vehicles valued 5 times what the 318 is worth. It is a gas sipper, and fitted with "M" packaged wheels and a wax job it still looks Boss Euro. Purchase 1 with records!
318's are very reliable
95 318i sport package. I was lucky. I was owner #2 and the first owner by coincidence lived in the same city as me and took excellent care of the car. I bought it from a used car dealer with 78,000+ mi in 02/2003. I now have about 117000 mi on it and have had 0 problems. I replaced the original alternator, batt. and belts at 100K mi, but everything else (brakes, timing chain, etc. are still in good condition after 10 years). Replaced the belts myself actually. I found a remarkable performance boost after switching to Castrol Syntec 15W-50--instead of Mobil 1. I love this car and when/if I get another car it will be a 3-series.
1995 BMW 325is
This car has been a pleasure to drive since day one. The 5 speed transmission shifts with effortless motions, and the suspension handles the road with extreme confidence. My 325is has 142,000 miles and it doesn't consume one drop of oil. These cars are very fun to drive but can be somewhat costly to maintain in optimal condition, however if you are a DIY'er it can cost far less to operate than when paying dealer fees to perform basic routine preventative maintanance. Overall I think this car is an excellent choice for those who need to drive a lot of miles and don't need very much room in the process.
Best Car I've Ever Owned
We ordered our 325i to our specs and have put every mile on it since new. In the 11 years of ownership, the reliability has been outstanding. Regular oil changes at 9K miles or so with high quality synthetic oil and she still doesn't use oil between changes. We replaced the sport package shocks/struts & springs with Bilstein Sport shocks/struts and H&R Sport springs, which lowered the car a bit more. This is the agressive stance that the factory sport package should have provided.
Great Mini
Perfect car for anyone who wants a great BMW for not a lot of money. Fun to drive definitly get the manual.
BMW 325 IS Very nice car
I have owned this car a year and the only problems with the car were the problems i caused myself by adding crossed drilled rotors, and other extras, now ABS light stays on,and few other problems i caused myself but becides that , this car is built solid, my first BMW and now i will buy BMW rest of my life, THis is one great car, its a little on the small side but im a small person , if anyone is large, dont buy this car, go for 5 series.
My Dream Car & Best Car I Ever Owned!!!
I bought this car in 1995 and have kept it (so far) for 9 years. I have had NO problems with this car and have kept up the requiered maintenance, tune-ups, etc. It has been a great car to own and has had nothing out of the ordinary (based on mileage) go wrong or need repair. It is VERY comfortable to drive (I have a bad back so comfortable seats are very important to me). It drives like a dream and has always been so fun to drive - nothing drives quite like a beemer! I would recommmend this car and BMW's in general to anyone - they are great and mine has required very little maintenance over the years. I love my little red driving machine!
Best BMW below $5000!
This is truly the best BMW that money can buy for less then $5000! I bought this car as a project car, the engine was perfect, body was straight and that's why i bought it. I've had it for about 5000 miles now and everything seems to be great. This car now has a BMW m3 body kit with a JL Audio sound system, its a show car aswell as a Daily Driver! Love it! Good Job BMW!
Good investment
Bought the car with 105,000 miles, now it has 248,000 miles. It gave me some minor problems like key (spent $ 600) to fix that at the dealer), gasket leak (but fixed by a private mechanic). The cost of repairing BMW is too much, hut the fun of driving is always great. Even after driving 8 years, it drives like the same.
1995 325i Bimmer Sedan from Japan
Bought this U.S. Spec bimmer from a Japanese dealership with only 42,200 miles on it. The front facia having its masculine and aggresive looks is probably the best stock design worth upgrading to race track standards. Powerplant performance is phenominal specially with add ons. Drivetrain configuration is what you'd expect from high performance cars. Seems like the sheet metal was made to withstand an RPG blast. Interior design is acceptable. Leather seats are nice and firm. Overall, this car is worth keeping and I plan to keep her as long as I can. Although maintenance can get expensive but then again this car was not called "The Ultimate Driving Machine" if it meant cheap maintenance (:-)
BMW rules
Excellent handling. Solid body and smooth ride. Great gas mileage. Used more as a pleasure car than daily driver. Never owned a BMW, so went with a cheaper model to test the waters. Very much not disappointed.
Way exceeds Expectations
I stretched to buy my 325iS in 1995. Since then it way exceeded my expectations, being perfect in every way. The only issue could have been a little more power but it was enough to get me into trouble if I wasn't careful. Even 8 years old, this car has never had any single problem, has had extremely low maintenance costs, and is not even close to its half-life. For someone who has taste, it's nearly perfect.
One of the Best
They don't make them like this any more. Still has that all important feel of the road missing from newer models. Not super powerful off the line but still plenty of power to drive safely in virtually all circumstances. At higher speeds can compete with just about anything on the road. Not one of the best body styles. BMW owner for >25 years.
A Bimmer for any season.
Have owned this one for over 9 years - 325is 5spd with the legendary M techinc suspension. The only odd repair has been a radiator leak needing a new one. All else is simple maintenance of fluids and the odd brake pads. Have over 185,000Km on it and it still behaves new. Give us hill, curving roads and watch the generics fall aprart in your rear view mirror. Impeccable handing. Put on snow tires and run cirlces around any SUV. You will save enough on gas to put your kids through an Ivy league!!
Too Expensive to keep long term
Have owned my 325I sedan since it had 25,000 miles. Until this car hit 100,000 miles it was great both in terms of reliability and cost of upkeep. When we reached 100,000 however, that all changed. This thing is in the shop every month for something or another now: 2 fuel pumps, water pump, brakes at $500 per change, 4 sets of tires, o2 sensors, front struts, rear shocks, and tonight - just two days after the fuel pump repair - the "check engine" light comes on. In 2003 I spent $375.00 per month in just the repair costs of keeping this thing on the road. In 2004 that cost has reached $575.00 per month through July.
I will never buy another model year!
Bought my baby with 75k on her. She appeared to be in super shape for the $8500 I was paying. I was wrong, it was in awesome condition and I have never looked back once! All I do is change the oil, wash it weekly, wax it monthly and it keeps a smile on my face every time I turn the key! Do yourself a favor and buy the automatic option (if you can find one you like under 100k miles), its worth it and the stick does nothing for me!
Second to none
Driven 6 years everywhere from HI & FLA to NY & CT. In deep snow with studded tires and hi speed cross country. NEVER had a mech prob in 113000 miles. Taught wife to drive clutch in 3 days in it, then went to sea for 2 wks. Still on first clutch. I drive it like it has twice the pwr it does. I love it. When the engine dies in another 120000 miles I'm putting a v-6 in it and driving another 250000.
Great Drive
Very good car. BMW needs to start bringing the 316 over from Europe
Good solid car
Bought the car from friends. High milage did not bother me as they commuted 120 miles per day. Maint. has been good. My only complaint is lack of space in foot well.
Great car
Highly underated car. More nimble than a 325ic, feels more like a sports car with the high revving motor. Throw a performance chip in it and it will smoke a 325ic automatic. Less frill than the 325, but also less to go wrong.
Love my car!
I bought this car with just over 50,000 miles. I have since added 80,000 more with no major problems. Never left me stranded! Very peppy. My husband has had it up to 120 mph and says it was still a smooth ride - I don't recommend trying this, though! Fun to drive, still looks new!
Oldie but goodie
Bought this car for my daughter as birthday present. We have been typically domestic car buyers,t his is our first BMW. WOW! After driving it my wife said,"if she doesn't want it, can I have it!" The car had 150,000 miles on it and is is good condition considering its age. Everything works and had new struts installed by previous owner. I have to "test drive it" frequently to make sure everything still works, when I really just enjoy driving it. Am thinking about purchasing another for my wife to drive.
Buy one
Bought mine with 120k on it. Needed tires and belts. Still driving with 151k on it. No probs. - everything works and works well. No rust in Ohio which is rare and all equipment still works. Turns heads and no one can tell it's a 1995 except for older tail lights. Got it at a Ford dealer for $3000 three years ago (2005). Fun to drive with good gas mileage to boot! Rare to find one, but all sources tell me it will run until 350k miles.
'95 325i
The stock sport package is terrific when you think you've hit the limits, you crank the wheel that extra bit and really carve up even the tightest bits. The engine lacks the low end grunt of the 328, but makes up on the high end. I spend over 50% of the time on road above 4000 rpm where it becomes surprisingly responsive for a 2.5 liter in a 3k lb car. I know for a fact the car can hit 60 in 2 gear well under the stock spec of 7.8. The brakes are able to stop from upwards of 100 with minimal to zero fade. This is a great car and can give you years of fantastic driving if you can spend several hundred a year in maintaining it.
The Ultimate Convertible
I have owned this car for 4 years and it has been very reliable. 4 seats in this convertible makes this guilty pleasure convenient too. I have the sport option which offers 16" wheels, lower/stiffer suspension and power sport seats. 5 speed transmission is extremely smooth. Great car!
1995 BMW 325is
Orig owner with 88k mi this car has been a pleasure to drive/own. I've had some minor problems with car, but overall it's been a great car. Amazingly after nearly 8 yrs of ownership i still get a few compliments on this car
Two Thumbs Up
This is an incredibly fun car to drive and has had practically no mechanical problems in the 6 years I've owned it. Tight handling, good gas mileage and sportier than many others in it's class. Rear-wheel drive has never been a problem in the snow-belt due to the All-Season-Traction and investing in Blizzak snow tires in the winter. The dash board "oil change light" are great and on average I've only needed an oil change every 10,000 miles! Over all, it's been my favorite car I've owned!
The Ultimate Driving Machine
In a world of butter knives, this car is a scalpule.
Nice Economical Luxury Car
Suffers the same knocks as the Infiniti G20: low power and not enough soul. The 4-cylinder engine will not have you racing your engine at stoplights and looking for trouble. Gas mileage is less than average compared to small, similar engined cars currently out on the market today, 24-28mpg (with 89 octane). Why do I love my car? Intangibles. That kidney grill counts for something, that taletell styling of the 3-series sedan. The fact that I got more attention from the upper management types around the office...intangibles. The price makes for a good value for a used car and everyone will think you spent more.
sweet ride
This car met all my expectations. It's fun to drive (except in rain and snow - it sucks), has enough power and great mileage. I get comments on it all the time. The manual is a must for this little car. Its very spacious for a hatchback, and it handles great, especially at high speeds. The interior is a little cheap, a few cosmetic issues but who cares, its all about the driving.
Just a great ride!
I bought the car from a friend and used it as my runner car. I find myself driving it more than my other car. It has a feel of quality and ride that just makes it fun to drive again. I haven't had any problems to speak of except I broke the windshield wiper. It was may fault. Great car for the price.
Excellent Car
I have been absolutely astonished to find how much I have loved this car, and what a reliable car it is, 12 years later. I am a bit scared of the cost of a repair when something goes, but I see no reason why anything should anytime soon.
My Best Car Ever
Bought this car used in 1997 with <20K miles. I have maintained it myself and with the help of the Bentley manual found it easy to work on. With 145K it still has the original clutch. With snow tires and LSD it handles well in the snow. Other than ball joints, have done nothing but routine maintenance. Handles great (I added Bilsteins) and gets 30 mpg on my 80 mi commute. If you find a well maintained low mileage example, buy it!
Black BMW 325ic
Great driving car. Quick and responsive engine. Five speed is better than automatic.
Get one
Bought mine in early 2009 with 81,000 miles. I'D DO IT AGAIN. Fairly quick, very fast. Handling is athletic and certain. Styling is timeless. Mine is not a daily driver because I hope to have it 'till I leave for Glory. Color is Morea Green (see it to appreciate it!). Bought this rather than a 2-seater so that my wife and kids (or another couple) could enjoy the ride together!
What a sweet ride!
Awesome car. Be prepared to dish out some money on repairs , but the "fun"factor of driving it out weighs the price on repairs. You will get looks and compliments as if it is a new bmw. Good on gas ,not great. Turns corners awesome, and you can drive 130 mph on highway and feel like you driving 60. Be prepared after 100,000 miles, brakes, radiator, exhaust, clutch, and few others . nothing major. But definitely will dish out money for maintainence.
Best car I have ever owned
Test drove the car on a whim assuming that I would never actually purchase it. Previously owned 3 SAABs, Ford Mustangs and 1978 1/2 Datsun 280Z. Compared to everything else the little 318ti was the champ! Could use a little more horsepower but at the expense of fuel economy it is just not worth it. Only thing that comes close today is the MINI Cooper! Handling and overall build quality have no equal in this price range!
WOW!!! FORGET LEXUS!!!!!!
WoW!!!! My first BMW, this little beauty was found in near perfect condition for less then 10K. I find this car amazing, this is my first 4 door car, and at 43 I feel grown up in my sleek gray Beemer! I had a 2003 350Z and afew other cars this year but love the timeless lines of this cutie.......
14 years old goin' on 20
This car has been and still is absolutely reliable! The last thousand miles averaged 24.3 MPG. My 1991 750iL averages 9.2 MPG - a bit crippling with today's fuel price.
