Traded in a 2017 Honda CR-V that never fit right and was too boring. This Q5 TDI Sounds and feels like there's a small block V8 under hte hood, 2x the size of the 3.0L Turbo Diesel that's in there. After a little turbo lag, the car charges off like a bat out of he**. Only complaints is a little vibration and more noise than base engine at idle, but not annoying, just a reminder there's raw torque on tap under the hood. The steering is a little short on feel, but most cars are now. It's still firm, good on center feel and tracks very well and stable. Better than most cars build after 2016. Lacks heated steering and no factory remotes start like our CRV had. Ride is good with the optional 20" wheels. Has the sport seats with the adjustable thigh support. Best seats I've ever owned! Passenger gets full 12 way power adjustment too. Cargo capacity is OK. Winter traction in our 2011 Q5 was awesome. this one weighing 400lbs more should be even better. Averaged 34mpg going 70-80mph. Can see 40-50mpg cruising at 45-55mph on back roads. 600+mi range on the 19.8 gallon tank is nice to have. Diesel is running about 5% cheaper than premium too. In winter I believe there's a supplemental heater for the cabin so it should warm up quick. Styling is pretty conservative and timeless which is great for a used car we plan to keep another 8-10 years. Maintenance won't be cheap. But worth it for the fun factor and comfort. 2/19 have a check engine light. Dealer does not offer courtesy pickup for used cars so will have to take time off work and make 2 trips. 3/20 Emissions recall fix completed. New particulate filter installed. Still great mileage and performance. Can get on occasional CEL when driving aggressively in city traffic in cool weather but it goes away with HWY use. Overall still enjoying it more than our 2017 Honda CRV. Update 9/2021 - have had 2 warranty repairs in the emissions related systems. No other issues. The problem from above was probably related. Have towed a dual Axle cargo trailer that was about 3000lbs loaded. Did very well. It did need 7th gear to cruiser at 75mph but was stable. His drive locally. Plenty of power for hauling. Looking at a smaller travel trailer. Will probably reenforce the hitch by adding a 1/4”x 2” steel bar from the hitch to under the spare tire well so I can use a weight distribution hitch.

Audi Q5 2015 TDI

I purchased this SUV with 14000 miles on it and got a fairly sizable discount from original sticker from the dealer. I have owned three BMW 535I (one was a 530) previous to this vehicle so I am know what I am talking about performance wise as two had Sport suspensions. This Audi does have all the upgrades including the 20 inch wheels and handles extremely well for a smallish 4500 pound SUV. The acceleration of 6.5 seconds to 60 is amazing for a diesel that has ranged between 30 and 39 miles per gallon so far. I have noticed that the temperature conditions affect the mileage which must be a diesel thing but recently I got 39.5 MPG driving to Chicago on a 70 degree day going Northbound maybe I had a tail wind who knows. In summary the handling, acceleration , and mileage are ABSOLUTELy splendid. Certainly some of the 500 HP sport model SUV's are faster but who wants to own a vehicle that gets 15MPG average? I have not had one issue after four months and 9000 miles and the car is extremely quiet under highway driving conditions. My only complaints are the short warranty period of 50000 miles accompanied by 2600 in "regular maintanence" costs and the center console which impedes the movement of my right leg a bit. The lack of a few electronic options is really nothing I can not live without like I need more distractions while I am whipping down the highway. I will let you know if anything goes wrong I am hoping to actually be able to drive a German vehicle for 150K carefree miles which was impossible with a BMW. I can not imagine an Acura or Lexus handling anywhere near as well so if you like performance with economy the TDI is the wave of the future.

Awesome tow vehicle with great MPG (TDI)

I reluctantly traded in my 2015 Golf sport wagon TDI (to take the cash settlement.) A great car with zero problems on my end. But I wanted more ground clearance, AWD, and torque/power that I needed for towing a 2000 lb Aliner (hard sided pop up) and after many reviews and talking to a few owners of the Audi TDI I was able to find one online (with low miles.) This suv far exceeds any expectations I had. When towing the camper I routinely get 26 to 28 MPG (at 65 mph.) Both in the mountains of Ga, Tenn, and N.C and on the highway I honestly don’t even know the car is being towed (except when you hit a poorly maintained road.) When not towing I routinely get 38 mpg on the Hwy @ 72-75 mph. On a secondary road (we have many in Florida) @ 65 mph it is common to hit 40-41mpg. With an almost 20 gal tank it has a very long range. I have several good friends that I would respectfully call “motor heads” who know a lot about cars and trucks. I have heard them ask more than once (while a passenger in the TDI)...are you sure this is a diesel...it is way too quiet. The AWD traction on steep gravel roads (especially when towing) is excellent. This was a weakness with the front wheel drive Golf. Merging on highways while towing is effortless with all this torque, and climbing a mountain pass is actually fun with all the power the engine has in reserve. The only negative about this car is that sadly Vw/Audi are no longer allowed to bring them into the States. But, if you take your time you can still find some low mileage 2015 and 16’s out there.

Hits the Sweet Spot

I'm a picky person. I've driven many different types of cars, trucks and SUVs in my lifetime (I'm in my fifties) and have never really owned a vehicle that I would say hit the ideal sweet spot or did just about everything. But the Q5 does just that for me. Interior: beautifully laid out with comfortable seats for the long ride and leather surfaces where the leather looks new all the time with no cracks because Audi does not stretch the leather. Electronics take awhile to learn but are fairly intuitive. Exterior: very German, very nice lines, turns heads. Ride: smooth and comfortable. Ignore all those reviews that talk about the suspension being overly stiff. I wouldn't even use the word "stiff" to describe it. Yes, it is firmer than a Lexus or a Buick but those cars are just too soft and feel like minivans to me. The Audi feels sportier and absorbs the bumps nicely but you are still connected to the road. Handling: steering is precise or sloppy and cornering is very good unlike other SUVs with some body roll when entering an interchange which is not unusual for the height of this car or class. I have not driven in the snow yet so cannot comment but rain was very good. Power: very responsive and great acceleration off the block and at passing speeds. More power than you would ever need. Can tow up to 4,400 pounds which is very good. Safety: Excellent ratings by the government and top safety pick by IIHS. The blind spot indicators on large mirrors are very helpful. Disappointments: the lumbar seating adjustment could be a bit firmer for me, but not too bad. Could have more storage for spare change (I use the ash try which is very small). The phone charging takes place in the glove compartment so your phone is not handy although it is connected through bluetooth. I know, safer that way but I like to be able to grab my phone when I need to. Update: 42,000 miles and still very smooth and enjoyable ride. No complaints! Had to replace an exterior panel around the license plate due to paint peeling but the dealer did it with no complaints free of charge. The car is 4 years old but still turns heads. Update: 70,000 Cross country trip to FL and replaced belt. A few false mechanical lights come on occasionally but still very reliable. Leather showing no cracks which is something I've only seen in an Audi. Update: 85,000 Very reliable car. No major mechanical issues and no squeaks. Though I had an issue with the fuel filler door sticking and will likely need to fix. Very smooth ride still. I occasionally get comments when at the gas station asking if the car is brand new. I plan on owning this SUV for 3 more years and will probably go electric - likely the Audi E-Tron which is similar to the Q5. Update: Sold at 98,000 miles as timing chain and water pump were due to be replaced at a cost of $5,000. German cars are great cars but too expensive to maintain.

Have had a 2015 Q5 3.0T for five months and 2K miles now. It's the S-line with MMI and the B&O stereo. I love the looks, the comfortable seats, the panoramic roof and the smooth and torquey engine. Quattro and the 8 speed transmission make for a nice, fairly refined drivetrain. Zero issues to date but it's early. As for negatives the B&O isn't much of a premium stereo and sorely lacks both overall volume and bass. The MMI is overly complicated and just OK. The back seat could be a bit roomier but is not terrible by any means. The cargo area doesn't seem as roomy as I would have hoped. Curb weight at around 4400 lbs is excessive. The engine runs out of power a bit at higher rpms
