Nice ride , plagued with issues.
Bought used 2014 Q5 from Audi dealer. Owned it for 5 months now.. Car had 120KM with all service records done at Audi. My first German car as I always bought Japanese brands due to reliability. Good: Nice ride for 4 cyl. Very quiet and comfortable. Nice interior finish and quality. Good fuel economy. That's about it. Bad: Crappy transmission. When car is cold very harsh gear shifting into 2-end and 3-rd gear.. Smooths out when car warms up to operating temperature.(please note that dealer told me transmission is NOT servicable as it is sealed and if there is any issues it is a replacement job at the tune around $4-5K ) Oil consumption. I thought Audi fixed the problem after 2012 models , but apparently not. Still consuming about a liter of oil for 2000Km. Audi says it's normal. Never had that on any other car with 3 x the milage. Transmission "chatter". When crowling to a stop car starts to "jerk" like it is loosing tranny. Happens once in a while but makes me nervous. dealer didn't seem surprise , but can't find cause. Head light fogs up. Audi dealer says it's normal.( I guess it is for Audi) Auto folding mirrors sometimes act up and don't fold. I had service engine come on 3 times in 5 months. 1 for camshaft position sensor , twice can't tell as went off on it's own before I was able to diagnose. I had to buy OBD scanner after 30 years of driving cars. Overall nice ride comperable to my previously owned RX350 and MDX, but won't last even close to what others did from the looks of it. Good ride is ruined by poor Engine/Tranny design or workmanship. instead of enjoying the car I wait for what will go next. I won't keep this car for long and would never buy Audi again or recommend it to anybody. One year update.: Axle boot has cracked, ($250) Mirrors still acting up Transmission still crappy Refrigerant started to leak somewhere (not yet determined where) AC doesn't blow as cold as it used to Burning about 1 liter of oil for 3500KM. Conclusion: Unless you buy a new one and plan to get rid of your AUDI before waranty expires I would not recommend buying one. ( Unless you like to keep spending $$$$ for constant issues). I spent some time on AUDI forums looking for solutions and it seems Audis are plaqued with these small problems left and right. Too bad as it could be a nice ride. But for me ......I go back to Japanes brands..... At 130,000 kilometers car started burning 1L of oil for 600-700 KM.Was told by AUDI to keep oil in the car and keep adding as needed , aeventually replacing motor at $10K cost. NO thank you. Traded in for Acura. Not perfect but so far much more reliable than Audi.so far Update: Two years later not a single issue with Acura. It was a good decision to get rid of Audi and go back to Made in Japan brand...... SOLD crappy Audi for years ago , bought Acura RDX not a single issue. Couldn't be happier.

2014 Premium Plus TDI
Our Q5 TDI is only four days old and already impresses. Premium Plus with MMI, B&O sound system, tow hitch and side assist. Per the computer that might be optimistic, we got 37 mpg on the mainly highway trip home from the dealer. Managed 33 mpg on the way into work (uphill) and 37 mpg on the way home. The OEM tow hitch is a clean install and they gave me a color matched insert for the back bumper if I ever get rid of the hitch. The auto stop system is not intrusive.

Not built to last
I wanted to write a review from the perspective of a used car buyer and to give people a real idea of the reliability of these vehicles. So many reviews will talk about the reliability of vehicles in their current model year when all vehicles should be reliable in their first years. The true measure of reliability is the longevity of ownership before the costs to repair exceed the value. For the 2014 Q5 that reliability is not there. The oil consumption issues for which Audi lost a class action lawsuit still persist into this model year, I can personally attest to that. Starting at about 80k miles my Q5 began using oil, more and more with every oil change until by 100k miles it was using a full quart every 600 miles. The reason people say the newer model years do not have oil consumption issues is that newer model years typically don't have that many miles yet. The issue stems from poorly designed piston rings which require replacement to fix this issue. The CV axle boots needed to be replaced at about 90k miles, the timing chain needed to be replaced (a cost of $3k) at 120k miles. The camshaft then needed to be replaced at 128k miles. So basically a total engine rebuild by 128k miles and my experience is not unique. I didn't immediately have the camshaft replaced on my vehicle after just shelling out $3k for the timing chain and was then met with catastrophic engine failure - vehicle totally done (cost to fix exceeding vehicle value) at 128k miles and 8 years old. If you are leasing these vehicles or buying brand new with no plans to keep much longer than the warranty than you can consider this a reliable vehicle. For anyone thinking of owning one of these the length of time that most modern vehicles can last before repair costs exceed value, think again.

Paid a lot of money for a break down vehicle
Ahhh where do I begin! This was my second Audi, had a 2012 and had issues around 30,000 miles with oil consumption, breaks squeaking, things falling a part on the inside console so I traded it in after 2 years and got the 2014 model, what an idiot! The 2014 started to have oil consumption just like the 2012 model, and at 85,000 miles the timing chain started to have an issue, so I called Audi and they told me that the car has only 50,000 miles warranty and after that I'm on my own to pay for repairs, so I'm warning everyone out there not to purchase any of the vehicles that Audi makes or is affiliated with unless you like getting your new car fixed and paying for it.

Known Navigation problem that Audi will not tell you
I own the 2014 Audi Q5 TDI for 6 months. Love everything in this car except MMI. Recently discovered a problem with Navigation - sometimes, it looses GPS signal and when re-acquires, it recalculates your position by 1-2 miles off your real location. MMI reset does not help. All that helped so far, is to stop the car, turnoff the ignition, and wait for 10-15 minutes. AUDI is aware of this problem, but has no solution. Today, after 6 month of very gentle use, I have only 6K miles on the car, its rear view camera stopped working, shows green chaotically blinking stripes and rectangles. I am very disappointed. I planned to keep the car, but now I am glad that I leased it first.
