Best combo of perf + luxury + value
Consumer Reports had this one right (rated "top pick"). Far far better value than BMW and Acura's rep for quality and reliability is BETTER than BMW and much more so than Audi. The only low: weak torque in 1st gear. Outside of that, EVERYTHING else is FABULOUS. Supple ride, nimble, powerful, responsive. Virtually perfect fit and trim, roomier back seat than Audi A4 or BMW 325/330. DVD audio (stereo) beats any 2-channel CD system. Once you experience the Navi system, you'll never go backwards to non-Navi. You'll NEVER get lost! Three of my friends with BMWs were, RU ready: Jealous! They paid more, and they got LESS. A TEST DRIVE will convince you very clearly.
Great looks, poor quality
I ordered my 2005 Acura TL Navi 6MT back in November of 2004 and took it home right off the truck when it arrived. Initially I had no problems with the car, it looked great inside and out and was a huge upgrade over my 2004 Maxima which I sold a few month earlier. The performance was great and the manual transmission was a blast to drive. However no less than 3 months into my owner ship I started having problems; first I had to have an axle replaced, and things started going downhill from there. 7 years and nearly 60k miles later, there were way too many problems, including two door actuators, rattles everywhere, poor leather seat quality, and things literary falling apart on the inside

What a machine
I do enjoy my TL. The six speed manual trans is great, however when the temperature is below 60 degrees the shifting is tight until the car gets hot. The sound system and navigation are great features. Overall a real head turner.
Tires are a Problem
The Turanza EL42 tires are significantly sub-standard in my experience. At 15k, tires were bald. Dealership kindly replaced tires. However, subsequently the vehicle had vibrations. The Service Department indicated the vibrations were caused by the new tires. Others on Tirerack.com have indicated the tires have flat spots (causes vibrations), poor handling in snow or rain and premature tread wear. Dealership and Customer Service have not offered any solutions other than for me to accept the vibrations as a character of the car. I am still in disbelief that Honda/Acura finds this acceptable.
TL vs BMW3
Not as agile as a BMW 3 series but very powerful. The TL has many more standard features than a BMW 3 at a much lower price point. While not as much fun to drive as the 3 series, it offers a better value. The interior is nothing short of outstanding and is extremely comfortable. A really excellent car.
