Good ride and handling. Poor customer service.

We had our RDX for about 28 months. Initial impressions were good. Decent engine performance and handling. Interior is not up to par with other luxury brands. The infotainment system is hard to use and program. Reliability has been a disappointment. The entire radio and GPS system stopped working suddenly. Dealerships do not have shuttle service or offer loaners for extended repair times even when under warranty. Other brands way outperform Acura in customer care experience. Plan is to look to another brand next time.

Don’t Leave Home Without One

When your 72 years old and been driving since 16 and your first car was a Sedan with three speed on the column mechanical clutch and no power steering sliding behind the wheel of sleek new 2020 RDX SH-AWD Technology Package you can’t believe how much the car has come in such a short period of time. I had a 2018 RDX which was a great car but the redesigned 2020 is the nicest one yet. The infotainment system will take some use to but the fit and finish is on the money. Three driving modes are a lot of fun. Handling is nice and tight my first electric power steering. It lives up to all the reviews pros and cons that Edmunds review states but drive it and you want to take it home right then and there. I got the Platinum White Pearl with Parchment interior and it’s one classy luxury SUV. Taking it for its first road trip soon and can’t wait to test out the driver assist cruise control.

My plea to corporate Acura for help

2020 Acura RDX , 08/31/2021
2020 Acura RDX A-Spec 4dr SUV (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 10A)

On 8/14/2021, the steering wheel on our RDX locked up for two whole seconds while going down a downhill pass. Emergency braking system failure chimed twice and flashed warning lights on the dash. Average speed on that stretch of road is 50-55 mph, so you can imagine the shock and adrenaline I felt. My wife in the passenger’s seat, equally scared. This could have been a severe or even fatal accident. Local Acura dealer found the system code, cleared the code, so I picked up the car. I reached out to corporate Acura Customer Relations and pleaded for a vehicle buy-back. I made it clear, that we did not feel safe, nor trusted the car to keep us safe, despite the dealer’s “fix.” I was told to wait 1-2 weeks for a response from a case manager. On my way home from work on 8/25/2021, same error code chimed again, steering wheel locked up while going through a major intersection. I reached out to corporate again the next day. I asked to be put on hold for a supervisor or case manager. The agent stated they weren’t available, but assured I would be contacted immediately. I kept asking to be put on hold, not wanting to end this second call without a resolution, but was hung up on. As of 8/30/2021, I am still waiting for their call-back. I hope others will never have to go through this situation, but I wanted to provide some true color to Acura’s customer relations department, especially to those considering a new Acura. Passenger safety is quite a low priority with Acura.

The driver needs a "type rating" to be qualified

Just like my former model (2014 RDX), it will take a while to learn all the controls. After some training, I can generally operate the controls. BUT the owners manual is over 600 pages in length. Insane. PLUS I totally dislike the gps/nav system with the touch pad/voice control. I hate the touch pad as opposed to a touch screen or just manual selection by city/state. Much easier with the older selection method. Limited in flexibility when finding new names/addresses for destinations compared to the 2014 model.

Fantastic all-around car, from the ride, the drive, the luxury, the tech - it checks all the boxes for cheaper than the competitors. I absolutely love the car. Wife does too. Would buy it again in a second. 3 year update: we still absolutely love the car. Would recommend it to anyone.
