I really love this SUV. I have a 21TLX and I love the tech on the car and decided to also get a family SUV. The gas mileage isn’t too bad either. (I drive about 65 miles a day 5 days a week and I use about $60 - $70 of gas. It fills up with about $83 with gas prices being upwards of $4.30). The pros to the SUV is it looks nice from the outside and it looks great on the inside. It’s pretty roomy and very comfortable but the 3rd row is really not spacious. It’ll fit kids comfortably but not adults. The sloping roofline makes the 3rd row lack head room. The technology is also quite extensive for not being a top of the line model. I have an ELS system that sounds good but it’s not as good as the 3D ELS System offered in the more upgraded models. It has the ambient light on all of the doors which is nice and the big screen is nice as well. My favorite tech of the car aside from the Acura Watch safety features is the tachometer. It’s fully digital and somewhat customizable though it would have been nice to see it a bit more customizable. I love how the little MDX in the center of the tachometer mimics the lights of the actual car. For example, when you step on the brakes, the brake lights come on on the little digital MDX. Same with the turn signals and headlights. Some other nice touches on the car are the panoramic sunroof, 3 memory seat settings even on the passenger side, rain sensing wipers, wireless charger, and even wireless apple car play. Now for the Cons: it’s. 2022 and it’s a full redesign, so I’ve seen the issues first hand. The screen will reset itself randomly. I have about 5,000 miles and it’s done it 2 times…both when the apple carplay started to glitch out. I even had a key issue once while starting the car through the app. I had to turn off the car and turn it back on with the key. Some other cons is despite it being a lower end model, at the price point of $53k, you would think remote start and fog lights would be standard. I didn’t want to spend an extra $6,000 for the A-Spec just for the fog lights. The wireless apple CarPlay is cool but at random times the audio cuts off for a second or so but doesn’t last longer than 30 seconds when it starts to cut off. This is something I’ve experienced on every wireless apple carplay vehicles I’ve test driven so it’s not just Acura. I tested out a Kia, Hyundai, Cadillac, and a Chevy Tahoe and they all had the same cutting off issues with wireless apple car play. Another con is I’m 6’ 1” so when the seat slides back to let me exit the car, it can hit the knees of the person behind you. It becomes a bigger issue if you have someone in the 3rd row. While the second row moves back and forth to give more space to the rear, if it’s forward the driver seat makes it a very tight squeeze and it makes it harder for the second row passenger to get out. Aside from those issues, I still love the car and the amenities and comfort it brings. I don’t have kids so I can’t give a review based off of how family friendly the SUV is but I do carry friends quite often and we’ve been on 3 trips already with 7 people in the car and it’s not too bad of a ride. Granted I have 2 fun sized friends (under 5’ 2”) and they were fine in the 3rd row.

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back?

The new 2022 Acura.Pretty darn good, not great. I give it3.5/5.We just purchased the 2022 MDX Tech Package for my wife. She is not a "car person" and really likes it as an upgrade to her 2017 MDX Tech. I am a car person, and I think it is a solid car with some missed opportunities. Here are my initial takeaways: 1) Context is important here, and lets start by saying that despite the price increase, this is still a car that is slotted at a fairly low price point for a 3 row luxury SUV. I drive a 2021 BMW X5 and there is no comparison in terms of the quality and refinement of the vehicles, engine, cabin, infotainment, materials, but there is also little comparison in price either--with a 12-15k difference. The MDX is best compared to its other Japanese rivals, Lexus and Infiniti; and wins that fight hands down. We really like the new aesthetic redesigns on the exterior and interior--dramatic improvement. The 2017 infotainment system was horrific, and it looked like a minivan and dated very quickly. If you are considering the 2022 MDX, you have surely read a lot about the finicky new infotainment system. But I have found these concerns to be overstated. It is a tad finicky, but if you learn how to use it as designed, I think it nets as an asset to the car, not a detractor. Still, it is very surprising that this is not a touchscreen, given Acura was a pioneer for touchscreens in the 90’s. Still, it’s not a bad interface, but you do have to learn and understand how they designed it. Finicky is a fair descriptor, but there is also some real innovation and cleverness to it. I was more disappointed by the engine than the infotainment. Not necessarily in terms of power--its a bit above average there with a standard 6-cylinder--but rather in the lack of refinement. It is a bit growly, and lacks quick shifts and lags a bit in acceleration and shifts. This is the same engine currently featured in the Honda Passport and Pilot as well. Its a decent engine, but not really a refined one--a bit growly, a bit sluggish--but overall fine. Refinement-wise--It feels like it barely gets over the goal line for the segment it competes in--but it does get over that goal line. The steering and handling improvements between the 2017 and 2022 however, are noticeable as the car feels more planted and sturdier that the 2017 by far. The audio for the standard ELS system is also a step back from the prior generation—but the COVID parts shortage may be the culprit there. Like the major improvements to the exterior refresh, the interior refresh is also really strong (and much needed). The new gauge cluster is all digital, no analog at though some “hard”buttons are a bit small. The second-row seats do recline back several degrees--a big plus if you have kids in car seats and want a slight tilt back for long road trips. That second row can also move forward or back by a few inches--which cramps the third row when all the way back, but gives second row passengers more space. We rarely use the third row so this is helpful. The third row has room, especially when the second row is pulled up. The center seat in the second row can also be let down or removed altogether basically creating captains chairs on second row. Great versatility there. The leather, like the engine, feels barely to par with the segment it competes in but is also good enough. I think where Acura really struggles is with segmenting their trim lines--Base, Tech, A-Spec, Advance. The Advance Package adds over 7k to the sticker and just really lacks value there. The A-Spec is basically just a sport aesthetics/audio package costing over 5k more than the Tech. The Tech package I presume with be their best selling trimline. Unfortunately, they actually de-contented some of this trimline, I presume to push the Advance trim level. I would have rather them elevated the Advance than de-content the Tech package. For example, they eliminated remote start from your key fob in the 2022 Tech. Weird since this was present on the 2017 Acura MDX Tech, and also is on the very base Honda Passport that my daughter drives. Acura, really? They also bifurcate the ambient lighting between the Advance and all other trimlines. This just seems petty on Acura’s part. The Advance gets ambient lighting throughout the cabin while all other trimlines, only one line of ambient on each of the doors. Again, this just seems more of a de-content to distinguish of Tech rather than an elevation of the Advance. Overall, there just isn’t enough distinction between the trims—same engines, transmission, gauge clusters, steering etc. Best overall value still seems the tech package. In the end, we are happy with the purchase, especially at the price point barely over 50k. It’s a great car overall, but some really small refinements could have gone a long way. If you are a driver/car enthusiast you will be satisfied with the significant improvements, but not thrilled. If you aren’t,you will love

Straight Talk

Quick Summary: great seat comfort for all day travels - very stable in a straight line on the highways and it corners exceptionally well - quiet cabin but noticeable tire noise on some surfaces - lots of nice features - touch pad interface with the screen is hopelessly complicated and frankly is unsafe in a motor vehicle as it requires WAY too much attention to do anything because it is not intuitive at all and requires the manual for even the simplest tasks. My 2005 MDX had a wonderful NAV system, but this one is way too complicated. If I had to buy this car over again I would just buy the basic model and use a garmin gps or even my iphone instead.

I bought this car about 2 weeks ago. Right before the car was ready for me,they told me the ac was not working, but later they told me, that was freon that it needed. I took the car home ,only to discover 2 weeks later that the ac was not working Properly. I will take it to the dealer again. I took it to the dealer and they told me they need to change a part. They change the part and now the ac is working great. This car is beautiful and its rides excellent .

I have now leased a new 2022 MDX with Tech pkg for 18 months. I am a bit disappointed in the tech this model offers. One, I can't read the small infotainment screen during the day. Sure its 12 inches, but that is the diagonal dimension. It is only some 5 or 6 inches from top to bottom and 1/4 of screen is partitioned so you don't get the full 12 inches for your nav system. Just not bright enough to see the screen during the day when the sun is shining. The laptop system to move around the screen is a joke. You have to look away from the road to see what you are doing on the touch pad to be able to see the screen. Not a very safe thing to do. I think the ergonomics is poorly laid out. There are no areas for trays to put anything when you are driving. I had a Honda Pilot that I traded in for the MDX. I got better mileage and much quicker acceleration with the Pilot. Substantially better performance. Like 1 second faster to 60 mph, and 1.5 mpg better whether in city or on the hwy. You have to use high test gas on the MDX and don't get the results of high performance. Now I will say the MDX is a firmer ride, better handling and more luxury than my old Pilot. Is that enough to buy again? Not for me. Sorry. Ok, now that I have lived with my MDX for 3 plus years I have enjoyed the quiet tide, great handling and a very good cruiser on highway. The problem reading infotainment screen was solve by me getting cataracts surgery. I still dislike using pad on console for media screen. Nav system free update just doesn't work. Had dealer try, still can't do. Has a great resale value, so I purchased my MDX after lease expired. Will drive another year b4 replacement. I now have owned my mdx for 4 years. Have enjoyed the great ride and decent mileage. 21 mpg city and 27 mpg on hwy..Terrific handling. A great cruiser on trips. I traded mdx in after 4 years and received $3,000 more than what I purchased it for off lease one year ago. So overall, I would highly recommend the mdx for it's great handling, enjoyable ride and dependable performance. The new mdx has fixed the poorly designed controls for the multimedia system.
