The worst experience/s I have ever had with a car, old or new, over my fifty-plus years of driving and 80-plus owned cars and trucks. First things first, this is NOT a Volvo - it is a Geely. If you expect the car to conform to your ideas of what a Volvo should be then you will be sorely disappointed! Safety is not longer as important as sales. This car - or the company - nearly killed us. What they call the Care Key has a speed limitation function and comes from the factory set at either 110km or 120km. They did not tell us about it with the consequence that, when I pulled out to overtake, the car reached a speed and then refused to go any faster, leaving us stranded in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic getting dangerously closer! I managed to get back into the flow of traffic - just! The dealership and Volvo lied, cheated and, generally did everything they could to avoid admitting that this "function" exists and that they failed to tell me about it. According to Volvo, it is not their protocol to inform new buyers of this speed limitation. One of the excuses they put forward is that, if we wanted to overtake safely, we should have bought a more expensive model! Seriously. I have the email. The car handles like a cinderblock. It understeers then over-corrects. It is not in any way pleasant to drive. I am just over 6' tall and the seat (the part I sit on) is far too skimpy. In short, it is a disaster on 4 wheels. The only good thing about it is the little garbage bin in the center console. As for the rest, the electronics are cumbersome, opaque, unreliable and entirely user-unfriendly. The car comes with two manuals but, according to Volvo, the buyer needs to study the online manual (which no one told us about!) to "really understand the car"! Every time I look at the car in my driveway, I get angry all over again. A reminder of just how stupid I was to have bought it. I am reduceed to buying lottery tickets so that I can buy a decent car and give this piece of....... to someone I really dislike.

One of the most impressive cars I've owned
This car is awesome. Unbelievable features, great power, and comfortable ride. What more do you want? Reliability? It gets an average score for reliability, but I haven't had the car long enough to comment on its reliability, but it seems to be one of the best cars I've owned - so far.

My daughter’s first brand new car
Car is beautifully designed, comfortable to drive and sit in (I’m 6’4” 230 lbs). Safety features are amazing and the technology is really very advanced for an entry level SUV.

Missing accessories
Got my car and recently noticed that there are NO lights in the backseat. Very inconvenient. In the hatch area there are two tiny lights but not the ceiling one shown. It was supposed to have lights but did not! What sort of car has no lights in the backseat?? Should have gone with the Audi.

Cute from far but far from cute!
There are three trim models and two engine options. I purchased the R-Design trim with the T4 engine because I did not know much about Volvo. The exterior has a classy look but the interior is boxy and not very tech forward. They say the XC40 is competing with the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Benz GLA250, but it’s really shouldn’t be compared to those luxury brands. The Volvo XC40 is more in comparison with Mazda and Subaru than anything else. A luxury brand they say? Far from it! Just because the car is unique to Sweden and they brand it as luxury it does not mean that it will live up to its name. The drive feels flimsy, the speed is not adequate, and the interior is mediocre. They put the T4 engine on an SUV, which is absolutely sad. It takes 8 seconds to go from 0-60. Any engine with less than 220 horsepower does not belong inside an SUV. The biggest mistake I made was leasing this Volvo XC40 T4 R-Design. My Mazda CX5 Grand Touring was better equipped, sportier, and more fun to drive. I recommend going for something like the BMW X1 or Mazda CX-5 if you want luxury and a good drive.
