Used 2001 Volvo V70 XC AWD 4dr Wagon (2.4L 5cyl Turbo 5A) Consumer Reviews
Love/hate relationship
I bought this car with the intention of keeping it for a long time. With 64,000 mi. this car is the most unreliable (by far) vehicle I've ever owned! I spent nearly $2000 at 60,000 mi. for service and repairs and 3000 mi. later the service light is on again. I am on the third main computer module (thankfully under warranty), ABS module ($1000), the throttle module left me stranded hundreds of miles from home. I've replaced a wheel bearing, power steering problems and countless light bulbs repeatedly. Easily over $2000 in repairs alone, not including tires, brakes, regular maintenance, etc. Great when it works, but can no longer trust it! Will be replaced soon, not Volvo.
Happy Days
Today is the happiest day of our lives with our Volvo - it's trade-in day. This car has been in the shop so many times - bulbs, seat motors, transmissions, electronics, power window lifts, rear hatch, batteries, alternators, voltage regulors, and most recently 1,100 climate control module. Our favorite was at 70 mph the engine fault sensor shut down the car completely - real hazard! Only good thing on this entire car is the engine which has given us the least amount of problems.

Fun until the electrical system acts up
I owned a 2001 V70 Xc for two years 30 minutes off a lot of a Volvo dealership and boom!!! Etm issues , Thankfully they fixed it but it took two days to get it back I got it back it ran fine regular oil changes then!!! My check engine light comes on I took it for a obd2 read and they said it was a turbocharger problem. Had that fixed then started having electrical issues up the arse!!! Headlights wouldn't come on the info screen said electrical maintenance required, airbag warning coolant low turn off vehicle warning even though the coolant was topped off . the thing that screwed seriously up was the transmission it said transmission maintenance required I let the car sit for a week turn it on and then it runs fine until I go down a hill and blow my turbo . that is the day I scrapped it and bought a 1990 240 dl lol never had a problem since

2001 V70 XC AWD
Love the car BUT.....3 transmissions replaced all under warranty (good luck XC90 owners, you got the same lemon trans but a much heavier vehicle...see you in the shop!!!!), engine rear main seal failed and had to be replaced, vibration, excessive tire wear, headlights burn out every 6 months, squeeks and growns from suspension, soft leather tears very easily with kids. Parts prices are ridiculuously expensive.
Afraid what the future may bring
I have had my XC for 1 year now. I just took the car in for the 60k mile and was told I also needed to replace inner tie rods, along with some other expensive repair. I noticed one other reviewer also had to replace. I find this to be ridiculous. The worst thing, my car jolts, jumps, throttles off and I had the software replacement on the recall. Last night check engine light on when I just spent $1600 last month at the shop. This is scary. I am a loyal Volvo customer, this is my 2nd wagon (last one was 12 yrs old), but I don't think I will purchase another. The throttle problem is a dangerous one as you don't know when the car is not going to respond?
