Used 1990 Volvo 240 Consumer Reviews
Mixed feelings
I bought my '90 240 DL less than a year and I have mixed feelings about it. Overall, its a very solid car, I was hit on the side by a BMW Z3 and only got a minor dent while the Z3's front end was wrecked. Its fuel economy is not impressive, I average 16mpg city driving. Its rear wheel-drive tends to slip easily on snowy roads. Ride is comfortable and handling is smooth even though pickup is slow. So far I have to replace quite a few parts and they are not cheap.
A Good Car for the Price
I own a Volvo 240DL now with 160,000. It runs very well for the age and mileage. Reliability has been just slightly better than average because the water pump, radiator, and MANY other small parts have been replaced. Thankfully, they've all been cheap repairs. The gas mileage is OK. I was used to getting almost 35mpg on the highway with my Acclaim, and now I get about 25mpg on the highway with the Volvo.. Comfort from the seats is good, but the ergonomics are terrible! Generally slow performance There's no doubt in my mind this car will last 200,000 miles and beyond, but the body is suddenly rusting this year and will not last that long.
