Numerous Problems
The car drives great, but..... I have experienced numerous problems and VW does not appear to be willing to stand behind their product and resolve all the issues. Problems include Steering wheel not straight, tire balance issues, sunroof seal, transmission shifting problems, compass display, window washers, cracked interior trim, etc. I keep wondering what the next problem will be.
LOVE IT!!
I have never had this much fun driving a vehicle. I constantly find myself thinking, if not saying "WHEEE!" when taking corners in it. I also enjoy not being one of the many with Mercedes, Lexus, or other over- manufactured vehicles that are a dime a dozen. Drives like a dream. As I enter the garage each time, or approach in the parking lot, I am still awed by its beauty, and can't believe it's actually mine.

Great V8
I can't wait to play with this in the winter.
Touaregs' a 10 !!!
I switched from a 1994 Supra TT into the Touareg and have no regrets. The milage is only 3 mpg less than the Supra TT, so I'm used to low milage! This truck is very nimble around town, and solid on the highway. I've been off- road in the Carolinas, light stuff (haven't needed my ltd rear diff yet), but the Touareg is indifferent to what you throw at it. It does everything well.
Worthy of consideration
There is more to this vehicle than it first seems. I have actually taken it offroad on the old Barlow Trail over Mt. Hood! If not for the support by the folks at the dealer, the little niggley things would drive you crazy, things like missing manuals, wrong size wheel center medallions, and a broken carbon canister for the emissions control system. None the less this is the best, the most fun, the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned.
More than expected for the money
With all of the options that come with the Suv, I couldnt compare the price with all that I have on the Tourage verses with the BMW, Lexus & Volvo. Very Roomy in the front and backseat. Wish that it had a 3rd row option and better gas mileage, A in dash disk player would be nice as well! The interior and the drive of this SUV feels as if you had paid for a top dollar SUV and in fact, I didnt! Very eye catchy and I get alot of compliments!
Great car
Good car great driving experiance. Powerful, handel the road like no other SUV. Very good price.
A MUST SUV
I must admit people look at this car on the road. It gets plenty of attention. Its unique looks and sleek style def. turns heads. This car does not dissapoint. If you're in the market for a quality SUV which is not common place on the road..you must consider this SUV!!I
Touareg--no compromise
I dont think I could ever buy a vehicle without air suspension again. Its really a no-compromise experience. Sticks to the road like nothing I have driven before. There is almost no perceptible body lean in aggressive maneuvering. No SUV handles better than this one. Im pretty impressed with the v8 overall. When I do a throttle kick- down, I get good response without a noticeable delay. Tranmission shifts harder that Id like. The controls are generally intuitive. Its the little details that make the most difference here. The cockpit is quite amazing looking overall. Visibility is great. The rear folding seatbacks are finicky about locking back in.
fun to drive
the gas mileage sucks but if what you're looking for is a brilliantly constructed luxury car with a big trunk, room for 4 and a convincing sport- ute visage,vw has done it........
great ride
great ride luxart looks eye catcher
It's better than I thought it would be
I've just had it for a couple weeks, and love it.
Fun Car. Great looks.
It was a fabulous purchase. A great car with incredible features. Incredible comfort and truly superior build quality. Drive one. You'll see.
Fun to drive
This is a strong entry into the SUV segment for VW. I have my concerns about the long term quality considering the amount and complexity of the deployed electronics. Very fun to drive. Previously owned BMW X5 and the VW beats it in appeal both on-road and off-road
The finest
The VW Touareg is the finest suv I have ever driven and I have had alot of luxury vehicles in my life. The Touareg gives you a feeling of safety and sureness you cannot experience in other luxury suv vehicles. Its power and nimbleness combine to give you a feeling like no other.I love my Touareg and plan on getting another one after this one.I would recommend it to anyone. The only thing I would improve is the gas mileage but for all the other great things this great machine does it is worth the trade-off.
5000 miles later
After 5000 miles and one 1500 mile trip ( three 10 hour driving days)I still enjoy every minute of being behind the wheel. It's comfortable, responsive, stabil and solid. The six cylinder engine has plenty of power.
A Super SUV
This is an excellent SUV. I highly recommend it. Glad I bought the V8. Found the V8 to have lots of "extra little features" that the V6 does not offer, or only offers as an option. I really like having the air suspension as well.
new breed vw
AWESOME-SMOOTH RIDE-BEST VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED
Great Vehicle
This vehicle is fun to drive and it would rank high with any sports vehicle in its performance. Plus it looks great
Stuff
Its really cool. I like the interior design, it has a cool dashboard.
1 year, 30,000 miles later
This SUV is still great. It handles curves like a sports car, it's as quiet and smooth as a Lincoln Town Car (which I used to drive), and has plenty of room in the front (I am 6'5"). I knew the V6 would lack power going in, and while it is sluggish from a dead stop, this vehicle effortlessly does 100 mph. I routinely drive it at 90 for a 50 mile freeeway stretch and the engine is just purring at 3000 to 3200 rpm. Even at these speeds, I have been getting anywhere from 16.7 to 17.2 mpg between re-fuels. Only maintenance required has been routine oil changes/tire rotations.
Do your homework for both Treg & dealer
Reading Edmunds reviews, I was concerned about quality issues. My born-on date is 3/04. Perhaps issues have been worked out. Have Reed Green with beige leather. Love it. Fit and finish is unbelievable. I'm 6'6" and am very comfortable. Dealer experience was 1980's smarmy time-warp. Heritage VW-MD posted internet prices by VIN on their web-site. Fair price shown for exact trim I wanted. I had all numbers worked out with a +/- contingency. Was told by sales guy that we're close to getting it done.Go to close w/MGR and he wanted $1.5k over web. Uncomfortable. Threatened to walk. Never recommend them. Lost a service customer forever.
Hell Yea!
very sexy car...my chicas love it! but the acceleration is poor for a V8
Love My Touareg!
I purchased my V6 Touareg in Nov 2003 and have around 12,000 miles on it at this time. This is a wonderful vehicle for long road trips in a variety of conditions -- dry, rain or ice. It is also a nice ride in town or on freeways. If I had it to do over again, I would purchase this very same vehicle. I absolutely love it!
Big Truck, Small Feel. Drinks Gas
I have had my new V8 Touraeg for about 2 weeks now an love it! Lots and lots of power. Good looking interior with attention to detail. Quiet and smooth ride (my old truck was a Ford Explorer). This truck is a lot larger than it looks.
Navi kills the CD Player
I love the car, but VW swung and missed in regard to the CD player. No indash changer, no option to purchase XM or MP3 player, and if you use the Navi system, you can only listen to CDs via the cargo-area mounted 6-disk changer.
Hot...But Sometimes Too Hot!
Volkswagon has really designed a winner. I compared with the Volvo XC90, Lexus RX 330, MB ML430 and the VW knocked them out. Great on-road manners and a demon in the sand and mud. Excellent fit and finish. One major complain...the air conditioner went out twice. First time within the first 100 miles and again two weeks later, both times on road trips. VERY HOT AND VERY FRUSTRATING!
You bought a what? Toureg?
No one knows about this SUV, yet the people who do understand know what it is to drive a true touring SUV. I am an urban cowboy who loves his comforts and the Toureg provides all you need and more. A bit slow on start up until you put the car in S. Then away you go. The engineering could not be better. Sound system excellent. I just cam out of a Lexas 300RX and this is better built SUV. The SUV even can give you the tire pressure along with other information. The V8 is very fast but gas costly. I just spent the weekend on a long trip and never had to stop because of discomfort. A pure pleasure. Enjoy!
V6 3.2L Touareg
I bought the Touareg for my wife after the birth of our first child. We were looking for a safe car which was stylish and fun to drive. We looked at the BMW X5 and the Acura MDX. The Touareg by far was the most economical, stylish and quality vehicle that we evaluated. It also was not a mammoth vehicke like the X5. The vehicle came with several standard features which were only expensive options on the BMW. Even with Navigation, the vehicle price was about 4K lower than the Acura and about 12K lower than the BMW.
Love the Touareg
Researched and test drove all the other mid-sized SUV's. Touareg was by far the best deal. Much better fit, finish and interior design than BMW, Mercedes or Lexus. V-8 gets over 19mpg on the highway with a full load. Could be better, but not bad considering vehicles weight and power. Love being behind the wheel of this vehicle. Amount of features are unreal for the price. NAV coiud be better, but gets me where I'm going. Fantastic ride and handling. Luxury car quiet. No problems at all with my vehicle. Dealer has been the best I've ever dealt with. Everyone that sees my Touareg is amazed by the quality and ride and immediately want one!
MOST AWESOME SUV EVER OWNED
A TRUE JOY TO DRIVE. MY WIFE AND I WERE LOOKING AT THE BMW AND MERCEDES AND DECIDED TO DRIVE THE TOUAREG FIRST AND WE ARE GLAD. IT OUTPERFOMS OUR CURRENT ML AND WE ARE VERY HAPPY. BEST SUV WE HAVE EVER OWNED AND THIS IS #6. VW HIT A HOMERUN WITH THIS VEHICLE....
poor performance
Turned car back in to many problems.
VW is good
Good car fun to drive-incredible handling could be quicker off the line but still not bad
VW HITS A HOMERUN
THIS VEHICLE IS THE BEST ONE THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED.IT IS FUN TO DRIVE AND IT HAS PLENTY OF POWER.THE ONLY THING THAT VW SCREWED UP WAS WITH THE NAME.
Wow! I didn't expect this
I was one of the first buyers of this Touareg and I love this car. The drive has a totally smooth feel to it. This includes smooth suspension and smooth acceleration. This car has power! (310 horse to be exact) You can take this car up an almost vertical hill with loose dirt easily and then drive on a smooth road...SMOOTHLY. probably the only car that is this all around. The inside is totally comfortable and spacious.
Great car!
Excellent car, nothing to complain so far!
A Joy To Drive
I was initially hesitant to purchase a first year model, but I am very, very happy with this vehicle. VW has done an outstanding job with their first SUV. It is very well-built -- solid -- very comfortable to drive, and handles expceptionally well for a rather heavy mid-size. Negatives: In (D)rive, the trans shifting is a bit ragged at low speeds and slow acceleration; I drive in TripTronic or sport mode most of the time with no problem. (VW has already addressed the shifting issue with a softare upgrade that I'll have installed soon.)
2004 Touareg V8 Air-Susp AWD w/ Nav
After 6 months of research and numerous test drives, I finally decided on the VW Touareg and I have never looked back. I've had '04 Touareg for 6 months now & have apporoximately 3500 miles on it, & I am extremely satisfied. The drive is smooth and the interior is extremely comfortable. If there was anything negative that I would say about the Volkswagen Touareg, it would be the sometimes confusing stereo/navigation system. Also, the shifting of gears when accelerating could be a bit better. The MPG on the Touareg is another pretty bad area..but what do you expect, it's an SUV. Overall, this is an AWESOME car and I would recommend it to anyone!
not worth the money
We purchased this car after our first child was born. It is a heavy safe car that is fun to drive. That's where it stops. From the start it was in the shop for trim, sensors etc.. I would have to rent a car within the dealer (usually a tiny tin can) every time I took my car for service. If I would complain at all about the frequency of these malfunctions on the car they would blow me off and tell me that I had purchased a luxury vehicle and the repairs are more extensive? ? What? Where's my luxury service? I think VW priced themselves out of the market with this SUV. For the price you are paying you should have some service. Buy yourself a Lexus and get yourself taken care of.
Poor Volkswagen Service
Dublin Volkswagen in Dublin California provides the worst possible point of service in a vehicle with a factory defect and damaged the replacement equipment. The Volkswagen National Customer Service while stating they were empowered to satisfy our complaint has still not returned a call. I would suggest never buying a volkswagen product if you are considering their product line simply POOR POOR Serivce.
true suv
excellent performance a true suv in mink clothing
GREAT CAR
I LOVE THIS CAR! I COULDNT HAVE BOUGHT ANYTHING BETTER
at the garage al the time
We loved the design and many other things. However, this car is at the garage all the time. The warning message comes up all the time , falsely stating that the tires are flat, or we shud check tire pressure. The break lights failed, then the radio/ nav system failed (they put in a new one, now we cant get certain chanels), then the hazard switch could not be turned off and neede replacing etc. We did 10000 miles and already need new tires. Tomorrow is the fifth time within 10 days that I am going to the garage...
my car, the touareg
This is the greatest car I have ever owned. It drives like a sedan and is very luxurious for its pricing.
i love this car
this car is the best car ever
das tier
the styling is great. Comfortable. The instrumentation is great, especially at night-the interior lights exceptional.
great
only one problem, because of the way the ac hits the windsheild, it fogs up because of humidity. it dose need to be fixed
I love my egg
I have the V8 Egg and it has been a wonderful vehicle. I have had two minor issues thus far. A plug was missed during assembly causing water to enter the cargo area. Fixed promptly by the dealership. I also have a problem with wind noise with the sunroof open. dealer installed a deflector to correct problem.
Beaty and a Beast
Awesome looks and great interior. The most comfortable ride ever and it's a VW.
