Worth way more than the price tag.
I just got my V8 Touareg home. I've opted for the Nav/SSII, conv. pkg, and bi-xenons as well. I'm looking at a price tag of about $42,000 (for a list of about $45,500). I've driven the recently released BMW X3, the Land Rover Discovery and the Acura MDX. I owned a Tahoe and have been the passenger in a friend's RX330. None of these vehicles even compare to the Touareg. I had so much fun driving this thing. It's a smooth, tight, powerful ride and the interior is as beautiful as the exterior. I've never been more sure about a car purchase before in my life.
this beast is really something
simply the best midsize luxury SUV in the market
- V8 4dr SUVMSRP: $4,990185 mi away
- V8 4dr SUVMSRP: $15,000283 mi away
- V6 4dr SUVMSRP: $5,495435 mi away
More fun then my a6 2.7t
Powerful, handles great.. awesome in the snow. Solid build quality. Overall a great car! Best I've ever owned.
awsome ride
best luxury suv on the market.period
THINK TWICE
What a beautiful sporty suv that really hauls and is fun to drive. But be very wary, I have this car for almost 2 years and only have a little over 11,000 miles and I have had the suv in the shop more times than any other car I have owned. We have the 19" high performance sport tires, well at 8,000 miles we had to spend over $1,200 on new tires, the wood interior has cracked two times; the rear lights have been replaced twice due to condensation, the air suspension has gone twice leaving me with a $56,000 low rider. All in all I have been very displeased with the mechanical and lack of fuel efficiency. Once our lease is over we will never purchase another VW again. I am tired of loaners.
WOW - WHAT A RIDE
This car is fantastic. Got it for my wife, she loves it and I get it on the weekends. DO NOT BUY BMW, LEXUS, or ACURA -- this car is more stylish and has a better ride (AND CHEAPER) than the others.
Lives up to the hype
Did extensive shopping to replace my 01 MDX. Shopped the XC90, Range Rover, X5 4.4, Cayenne S, FX series, ML500. The Touareg made the most sense to me, was the best value, and was the best looking of the bunch
Great SUV.. a blast to drive..
From the moment I got the truck, I've loved it.. The V8 is great, powerful and very responsive. In the snow, it's better then my old A6. Interior is great and roomy, the only slight I can think of is the car likes to drink gas.. Enjoy....
a new gem
my only disapointment is that they dont make a diesel version.
Great replacement for my van
Wanted to get away from my van but didn't want to go to a hugh SUV. Touareg was the perfect niche. Got the Air suspension system and Naviational set up. Extremly solid in hard turns (no roll or slop)and lots of pickup and go. Very quiet and smooth shifting. Comfort is very good Plenty roomy and no confined feeling Also my "Homelink" system would not work with my garage door opener. My previous van had the "Homelink" also and it worked perfectly.
Awsome
This is a FANTASTIC SUV!!!
great suv
This toureg is just what i have been looking for.Offroading, cruising, and still has that bgreat luxury feel.No wonder it won motor trend suv of the year!
Run for Your Life
I fell in love with the Volkswagen Touareg after one test drive. Had I known the issues that were going to crop up I would have made another choice. I love the ride and handling of this SUV but I'm reaching the point where that doesn't matter anymore. I've had this truck in for service at least once a month since I bought it. I've even had to take it in for service while on vacation. How much does that stink?! Many of the problems have been linked to the electrical system (which they know is bad and refuse to fix) but now it's my transmission that's going wonky. Not only does it jerk while shifting gears, now it's making a loud screaming noise. VWoA needs to get a clue and own up to the issues!
2004 Touareg
We have owned and enjoyed driving the Touareg for 6 months. No problems. Just had the 5000mile check-up/oil change. It took a little while to get used to the feel of driving, the brakes, and the controls. It's not a sports car....but a very well thought out and well built SUV.
Best Rig Ever
Totally comfortable and powerful...a smooth ride.
watch out BMW, Infiniti, Lexus.. TOUAREG
Well, i was in the market for a new SUV and i looked at the following... BMW X5, Infiniti FX45, Lexus RX330 and VW Touareg V8. Oh my God, there is no comparisson.... After driving a V8 Touareg, that was it.. Sign the paper and purchased the car. X5, FX45 and RX330 watch out, there is new cat in town. Jeff V8, Nav, Xenon, Convinence Package
LOVE IT
Have Had It For About a week Now.....Just So Much Fun To Drive. About 20 people already have came up to me and asked what is that after i tell them they say that it is one hot lookin SUV!!!
Best SUV
5500mi.and no complaints.Comfortable smooth ride. Great in snow.Plenty power for a V6.Fuel consumption as expected from a car that weight. Worth the money. Well recommended.
Definetly a good Purchase
I had a vw passat, but changing to the touareg it has kept my face smiling since the day i got it. is an amazing vehicle.
Take a long test drive
Purchased a 2004 in dec 03, partly for the tax break. Car is built like a bank vault, everything seems to be of high quality, switch gear feels very audi/mercedes like. Acually i like everything about the car except for two thing. Fuel milage is poor - best i can get driving only for mileage is 19-20 on the highway. Regular driving 12-14 mpg and this is on premium fuel. Second thing is seat design, seat is comfortable for about 1/2 hour, after that, the much too firm side bolsters cut into my nice normal sized rearend. Like the car enough though to have seat bolsters changed at upholstery shop, right now using a seat pad that works ok.
Touareg Tuff
This is simply a finely engineered vehicle. The ride and handle of a luxury vehicle, space of an SUV, interiors like that of a custom cabin cruiser. Theres a lot to like here. The exterior could use a better shape, however, the available colors do make for a great looking vehicle. The placement of interior components is well thought out and standard features were generous.
Luxury, performance & affordable-
1 great suv.Blows x5 away.Ride is adj w/ air susp option & there are noticeable diff btwn the 3 settings.Quieter than X5,virtually no wind noise.Steering is solid & responsive.Accel w/ the 310hp V8 will snap head back. 6 spd auto for normal driving/5 spd sport for spirited.Shift points are smooth.Safety features:side/curtain airbags, adj height seat blts, smart windows that go back down if you stick your hand in.On board air comp to inflate the spare or a raft,.Stnd features are great
I Love this SUV!!!
It has been a wonderful ride! This car is very comforable, very economy and very luxurious. I enjoy the handling and especially the off-road capability it has. Helps a lot especially during flooding.
Great V8
I can't wait to play with this in the winter.
Toureg - You Gotta See This!
I've had the Toureg for about a month now. What a great SUV!!! We originally were going to purchase a Land Rover Discovery, but found the Toureg to be packed with great features in one well laid-out package.
Best Vehicle ever Conceived
I have had my Touareg for 2 week and put app 2,000 miles on including a vaction trip. I am simply speechless. It's an SUV when you want it be. It's a performance sportscar when you want it to be. It's a highway cruiser when you want it to be. And all of this without compromising. I have had several dozen people wave at me (or the car) and even more stangers begging me for a test- drive. This car beats my three previous Jeep Gr. Ch. and my wife's Audi Allroad
Great SUV
It is a fun SUV to drive. It handles great and acceleration is also great. I was drivng a CLK320 for a few months and once I started Driving the Touareg the CLK felt like it had slow acceleration atleast from a low speed to a higher speed. The car will fly from 45mph to 80mph in a matter of a lite touch on the pedal and a few seconds. This is the V8 engine of course. People are allways surprised how well this 5,400lb SUV can takeoff. Sport mode and the triptronic tramission really makes the car fly. Off Road ability is the best of any Unibody Truck sold on the market it can match up with Jeep, Hummer, Benz and Land Rover. The interior is great just as good as any Ranger Rover. The Touareg is a great vehicle.
From Audi to VW?
Once I drove this vehicle, all doubts of VW's commitment to style, luxury and power went away. The 310 HP V8 is a welcome difference from most "luxury SUV" V6 or high cost V8 option
Touareg, free folk
My experience with the car has been fantastic. I look forward to driving it every day. It's been below zero here lately with a lot of 5" snowfalls. The slippery conditions are never felt, the Touareg goes around icy corners like it's on rails. It starts quickly and warms up rapidly at any temperature, and the bun warmers in the seats are great since they extend up into the lumbar region where many other models don't.
Worthy of consideration
There is more to this vehicle than it first seems. I have actually taken it offroad on the old Barlow Trail over Mt. Hood! If not for the support by the folks at the dealer, the little niggley things would drive you crazy, things like missing manuals, wrong size wheel center medallions, and a broken carbon canister for the emissions control system. None the less this is the best, the most fun, the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned.
Entering 6th year, still love my Touareg
I still love driving my car, and I do drive like the proverbial bat out of hell. I don't know about the "underpowered" reviews, but then again, I upgraded from a Chevy, so it's still a delight to drive. No fit & finish issues. Yes, it costs a lot for an oil change, but they're not JUST changing the oil... there's a whole checklist of things they're doing to ensure your car won't be a rattletrap at the 3 year mark like some other vehicles can be. (My blazer was.) Yes, the headrest obstructed, but they sent a replacement (low-profile) headrest for the middle- free. Recalls, but they always put me in a loaner.
Watch Out
To start with I love this truck! I tis a great design good to drive. The reason for this review is the total lack of any sort of reliability with the unit. Brakes @ $850.00 per axcel I have replace 7 times. Tires maybe 25000 on a good set. Electrical system is absolutely the worst I have ever dealt with. Drive Train, hads to replace the drive shaft linkage at 34500 and the factory wouldn't cover the cost to repair. I cannot tell you how much this vehicle has cost me to own. Never again... Watch Out!
Keeps on Amazing
This is one great SUV. Great on road feel with the air suspension, tons of adjustability and versatility and nice pick up from the v8. the interior is very elegant with nicely appointed leather. Wood trim is not bad and the guages are beautiful. ONly complaint is the stock sound system. I have no problem with the gas mileage as I anticipated it to be bad before I bought. Back seat space isnt great but I mainly keep the seats folded for hauling my dogs.
Think twice
We bought our Touareg in Nov 03 after looking at and test driving pretty much every SUV on the market. We liked the safety features of the Touareg and all the extras that came with it. My electrical problems started about 1 month after we bought it. My "check tire pressure" light would come on constantly. Dealership had to replace something, I guess this is a common problem with Touaregs. My car is in the shop now for the 2nd time because it just won't start. I have had to have AAA come out and jump it and take it to the dealer where so far they cannot find the cause. Something is drainign battery don't know what it is.
BEST VEHICLE EVER
I love this truck....Nothing better...Revolution in vehicle design
Not Worth It!
I have owned my 2004 Volkswagen Touareg V6 for 18 months. I am looking for a way out due to being stuck on the side of the road 6 times with my small children. It is not reliable at all!! The Touareg is great to drive, when it drives, which isn't often. It has been in for service for sooo much stuff and I have had very bad service experiences! Unbelievable experiences! I am afraid to drive it with my kids. I don't trust this vehicle.
best car in the world
This is an amzing car. It has everything i need. Even though it has a bad fuel economy,, the 26 gallon tank makes up for it. My kids and wife love it. It's Amazing.
Excellent SUV!
We've had our V6 Touareg for about a month now and absolutely love it! It's our first VW vehicle and selected after carefully looking at the Lexus GX470. For $10K less and a better rating by Car and Driver it was an easy decision. Actually like the exterior better than the sister car the Cayenne. Excellent experience with the Sales and Service Team at Duke Gold's Speedway VW in Indy!
what next?
allready broken and towed on carrier truck ,got stuck on "park" position.Hope yours is stiil drivinng well.
Caveat Emptor
We bought this T-reg with 7K miles from fleet use. We are very glad we bought the extended warranty, as this car has required over $6K in repairs over the last year. Finally traded it in this week with 97K miles on the odometer. This vehicle performed well in all weather and road conditions. We live in Minnesota where the snow and ice can come quick and strong, and the T-reg could handle all conditions, with good style and comfort. The V6 is a bit underpowered for a vehicle this heavy, but we did not do any towing, so we were OK. There was not enough room in the driver's seat for my 6'2" frame, so I would frequently get uncomfortable on long drives. Reliability problems are bad.
Quite A Car
Just got back from a 5,000 mile trip with parts of it through the Arizona desert. This car with the V8 will keep up with any traffic. None of the "gee I wish this trip was over." The car was so much fun to drive I wished we could keep going!!!!!
Helluva Car
After 2,000 miles, car is just great. Have Audi A8 with similar engine. Both awsome. However, shifting from D3,D2,D1 or back up again, car goes into "no where land". Punch the gas, nothing. Also, nobody can figure out how to install XM Satellite Radio.
My Touareg
I bought this car on vacation, not knowing much about it, I drove over 1000 mile home and was wounderfully surprised at the ride and handling on the mountain roads of West Virginia. The gas milage is about what I expected for a 4 wheel drive. I used to driving a Ford Expedition and am very satisified with the overall performance and it was $20,OOO less than the Cheyann which I was looking at.
fun to drive
the gas mileage sucks but if what you're looking for is a brilliantly constructed luxury car with a big trunk, room for 4 and a convincing sport- ute visage,vw has done it........
It's better than I thought it would be
I've just had it for a couple weeks, and love it.
1st weekend
I had an x5 before this but touareg blows it away, at a much cheaper price!
Fun to drive
This is a strong entry into the SUV segment for VW. I have my concerns about the long term quality considering the amount and complexity of the deployed electronics. Very fun to drive. Previously owned BMW X5 and the VW beats it in appeal both on-road and off-road
Go for it.
This car has grown on me everyday that I've had it for the first week. Even with just the base model v6, it's more vehicle than you could ask for. Quite the nice ride... inside and out! VW has put its mark on this one.
toureg v-8
i like the color combination- off-road gray and the teak interior,i have over 21000 miles now with zero problems, the 4.2 liter v-8 has more than adequate power for this suv. my previous car was an mb 430 and this suv is much better in every respect.
A Super SUV
This is an excellent SUV. I highly recommend it. Glad I bought the V8. Found the V8 to have lots of "extra little features" that the V6 does not offer, or only offers as an option. I really like having the air suspension as well.
