Amazing!
I purchased (leased) my Toureg in 2004; we are a Volkswagen family. You'll note from my ratings that the car is a performer, fast, solid as a rock, beautifully designed interior and handles like a sports car. It is a beast in New England's torrid winter weather. This is when the car is not at the dealership taking advantage of a very good warranty. I have been to the dealer so many times for so many things that I am totally disgusted and infuriated by Volkswagen's lack of shame. The common reply to my frustrations is: "Well, it's under warranty." I do not recommend this car. It is unfortunate because it could have really been my dream. Instead, it has been a constant nightmare.
Best Luxury SUV on the road!!!
No words can describe this baby... VW really did it this time.

Lives up to the reviews
I had been waiting for it ever since car & driver rated it so high...it is all that and more
Touareg tidbits
Just bought vehicle, so no long term experience yet. Very nice ride quality and exceptional handling. Handles turns and road curves as much 'sport-car- like' as a SUV based vehicle could. If 'fun factor', smooth drive and handling are impotant to you; with good comfort, sportyness at a competitive price then look at this product. We also own an Acura MDX and both are exceptional i would favor the VW.
VW Toureg - all it's cracked up to be?
Overall, this is a nice vehicle. However, with all the hyp, I don't think it lived up to expectations. I was torn between this and an FX45 and decided to go with the VW. I think I made the wrong choice. That being said, this still is a nice car to drive.
2004 Touareg
After only a week---very quiet, comfortable ride. Superb interior appointments with extensive convience and comfort features. Power adequate, 6 speed auto is smooth. On the highway 2800 rpm=80mph. Basic sound system is of high quality and A/C is excellent. Reliability evaluation is only a guess since my car is brand new and the model has no history.
Touareg has held up great
2004 and still runs and looks great. Happy to have it payed for and operating so well.

Love it.
Absolutely adore our 2004 VW Touareg. Has been a fabulous car way ahead of its time. So sure footed in the winter with power to burn. Just a lovely all around vehicle. Car is still getting lots of looks and sounds absolutely incredible with its exhaust note.

Best SUV
i love this SUV- its efficiant and very high quality- the ride is so much smoother than even the bmw x-5. (i test drove that when i went to the dealership also) it is the best that money can buy
Speedy's Touareg
This car is amazing. The drivability is similar to my three BMWs and it is a truck! Very little is compromised in this package--it tows 7700lbs, has plenty of hp (310) and drives smooth as silk with performance to match. So far I've been enjoying everything I expect from a German car. Wunderbar!
the best vehicle ever
Wonderful car is all i have to say
Nice ride
I think this is onw of the best SUV's ever made i like the ride confort of it i think i get all i want and need from an SUV
Volkswagen's First Audi
I currently own an Audi A6 and need to buy a SUV that was over 6000lbs (GVW) for my business so I can take the Bush tax write-off. My Audi dealer tried to persuade me to go with the Porsche Cayenne, but I didn't like the interior. The Porche's interior is awful, nothing like the Touareg which is nicer than my A6. I also looked at the BWW X5, but it was too small, and pricey once you load it up with the V8. I struggled with paying 48K for a VW, but this SUV is nearly perfect, it's like driving an Audi (car). The build quality is impecible, the ride is much smoother than the Porsche and the cabin is very quiet. The safety features are great.
A less expensive Cayenne
The Touareg rides like a dream, especially with the air suspension. Capable of going off-road, but built to comfortably navigate the concrete jungle of the real world. Adequate pick-up with smaller engine. Gas mileage is slightly better than advertised (still not great). The driving experience is fantastic! Fahrfenugen on and off road. The interior is extremely well designed. From the rear window shades to the driver and passenger visors - motoring concerns have been carefully examined and re-examined.
The jury is still out
The rear hatch does not always register closed when closed. I have not figured out the interior lights, either they stay on or there is no light at all. The floor lamps seem to be on continually. The instruction manual is hard to folowand is very long and repetative. It handles well and seems to be a very civilized SUV. All in all I'm pleased. I traded in a BMW X-5 for the VW. I am holding this beast to aq high standard.
follow up 30 days
This SUV is amazing.... As it has broken in our mileage has increased unfortunately the fun factor keeps the pedal to the floor.... Excellent travel vehicle..... just glad I live where we can drive to the limit (Germany).... a very stable vehicle at 100+...... we love our Toe-rag.... VW is on the mark
Love This SUVW
A great value for all the features, performance, and styling this vehicle has to offer.
VW TOUAREG V8
The Touareg is beautifully finished;moderately quick and very comfortable. Styling draws favorable comments everywhere. The V8 has plenty of power and is very quiet.Ride quality is superb. Seats are a little short on the squab. The air suspension is a must have.
tour egg?
can't wait for the snow! solid, smooth, great handling machine.
Touareg is a greast all around vehicle
I have owned the vehicle for one month now, and the only problem I have experienced is the Coil pack which was not supposed to be a problem on this model VR6. My vehicle was taken to Roseville VW and prompt attention to the problem was given.
underpowered
The vehicle is very underpowered for being a 40,000 car. If I could do it again, I would have either spent the extra money for the V8 or gone with my initial choice, the Porsche Cayenne. This is what happens when you want to save a few bucks a month.
Buy it!
The VW Touareg gives consumers a lot of bank for the buck. I had this SUV for two months. The engine is doing well even after 35,000 miles of the previous owener's lead foot. If you are buying one, go for the air suspension and navigation because you'll regret not getting them within first week of ownership.
ITS OK!
CD player skips, even on brand new CD's. Heat does not work consistently.
You Can't Beat Being "Free Folk"
Volkswagen may be the company that brought us the VW Bug, but the Touareg is well worth the money. I'm amazed at all of the standard equipment that comes with this vehicle. People complain about the power of the V6 and say they're wrong! Drive this thing around in "sport" mode and you're gonna have a really good time. Message To Volkswagen: Well Done!
Wud be great if wasnt bugged
Mechanically I give it the highest reviews, really excellent, power, fun to drive. Seats could be more comfortable, stereo system could be better. The HUGE problems is general instability in the on-board electronics, nothing is reliable, owner's manual is very very pooly written, had it for less than 2 months, been to the dealership 4 times. The keys definitely have a design problem as you hear many people complaining about then (ridiculos range, erratic responsiveness, etc)
Well Built 'UTE
I was very concerned with my wife's choice of SUV; however, (as much as it pains me) she was right. This is one fine machine! The VW provides much more bang for the $ than the X5!
UPSET WITH DEALER SHIP
THE RACKS ON THE TOP OF CAR MAKE NOISE SO BAD IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAR IS ABOUT TO FALL APART. THE VIBRATIONS ARE OVERWHELMING. TAKE THE RACKS OFF AND THE TOUAREG LOOKS BAD. NO HELP FROM DEALERSHIP ON THIS MATTER. NAVIGATION SYSTEM PAID FOR BUT NO CDS.. ALL WE GET ARE EXCUSES.. HAD CAR SINCE DECEMBER 2003.
VERY NICE
Have owned my new VW for a month. The truck is awesome. Test drove all of the competitors and the power is unsurpassed. Interior is second to none.
Underpowered V-6
The V-6 is underpowered when passing or accelerating on the highway. Gas mileage is horrific for a 6 cylinder SUV, undoubtedly due to the vehicle's weight. The quality and workmanship is very good. While I'm computer literate, the navigation system takes a programmer to operate with each geographic area of the US on a separate CD.
Great SUV
We love this SUV. Although a bit pricey, it drives great and looks good.
We Love Our Touareg!
This machine is an awesome SUV & Sports Car all in one!!!! We successfully drove this vehicle up a snowmobile path ( former railway track here in Newfoundland .....pushing 12 inches of snow ) and thought for sure we would get it stuck in the snow!!! Lots of power on the Highway too.....our V8 . 310 HP is registered for 320km per hour! We love the interior ( lots & lots of real walnut wood trim ) Cadillac & Lincoln should take heed here! Tire pressure monitoring system saved us trouble yesterday, front tire picked up a nail ( unsuspectingly to us ) and instrument panel warned of irregular tire pressure. Make no wonder "Motor Trend Magazine" named it 2004 Sport Utility of the year!
Worst car I ever had
Too many electronic problems. Problems with the aor pressure system. The cars main computer went out. VW in Detriot does not stand behind the car. I will never have another VW product.
Exceeds Expectations
Our Touareg is four months old with nearly 4000 miles. Driven daily in traffic and on two long trips. Vehicle has performed nearly flawless and continues to impress. Only mechanical issue was a faulty battery which dealership replaced under warranty. We shopped SUV's for nearly a year and narrowed our choice down to the Touareg and SRX. Touareg is a better value and has a balance of features for on and off road. Ride is impressive with adjustable air suspension. V8 with six- speed automatic is nimble and smooth. Fit and finish is impressive, especially the teak/antracite interior. Navigation and sound systems are logical and easy to use with practice. We are happy with our choice!
Never again!
I like this car. Great features, good looks, good performance. What i hate is vw service. I do not think that vw was ready for the luxury level clientel. My car has been in the shop for more than a month in the 15 months i've owned it. Although there is full warranty but most items are not paid for. There have been numerous recalls. Going for a service is worse than going to a dentist. In conclusion although i like this car and enjoy driving it, the pains that i have been through with 4 different vw dealerships in los angeles area has made me vow to never again buy another vw, no matter how good the car might be.
Bad Touareg
I have never owned a vehicle where I have had more problems than with my 2004 Volkswagen Touareg. Its problems include: a replaced driveshaft, replaced radio head unit 5 times, replaced almost all wood panels on interior, replaced cluster and dash, replaced catalytic converter twice, windshield fogging up constantly, air conditioning flutters, vehicle does not move when started after it has been sitting for two days.
Always Something!
I loved the look of the Touareg when I bought it and still do- unfortunately that is the only thing I still love about it! Every day there is some sort of call to action - the brakes had to be replaced far sooner than they should have (are they using Beetle brakes?), the tires lasted no time, key never works to open / unlock remotely, the aluminum trim inside dings like a soda can, the radio and other buttons are so cheaply made that the words and numbers are all coming off, it makes strange noises all of the time, and incessantly beeps. The tires always need more air. VW has been awful to deal with. The only good thing left was the awesome lumbar support, but that just broke!
Underappreciated Volkswagen
This has been a great truck. It has lots of curb appeal, a good ride, and handling for an SUV. It has the best interior of them all. Poor radio reception is my only gripe.
