Not impressed with VW Toureg
Not really impressed with the SUV for the price tag Acura MDX sounds much better. Brakes touchy, interior too complicated(Control Panel), Not enough storage space, Back seating is not specious as it should be, Trunk is tricky to open, due to its shape and the way of openning. Driving it is comfy but due to brakes being so tuchy it could be less fun on a big stop and go trafic. Not really satisfied with the vehicle
taureg reliability very poor
We purchased this vehicle because we wanted an excellent SUV for the hilly terrain of Southern Vermont. While it handles well in the flats, it is underpowered for steep hills and has had many many electrical problems. It is very complex and VW has not handled these issues well and the dealers do not have trained technicians to support the complex systems onboard. The tires were shot at 20,000 miles, the car spent many many days in the shop working out electrical problems. I reccomend that if you must have the Taureg, then buy the V8 as it has sufficient power and seems to have had less issues thn the six. I would not buy it again. The GPS does not perform well in back roads or off road.

Finally I got a quality car.
I purchased my 2004 Volkswagen Touareg V6 new, it had a few electronic bugs, no pun, but the dealer fixed them all and they didn't come back. It is an extremely high quality vehicle after being in American cars for 30 years. If you're in snow country your problems are gone. It has excellent traction and clearance. It's super quiet. The luxurious interior has real wood and metal accents. The seats are firm but have infinitely variable adjustment. I love the navigation system and cockpit design, it is like being in a jet aircraft. the sound system is the best that I've ever had and VW does not overrate itself. The factory tires are huge and wear out quickly but they are rated 200 and extra soft for traction. The transmission is so smooth you can hardly hear it shift through its 6 speeds.
fantastic SUV
Superb Vehicle. Great road/off road driver. Found out to after purchase that several features that are in VW brochure and on their vehicle features web site are NOT available on United States Vehicles. These unavailable features are promently described inthe handbook that comes with the SUV.
Love it
Could not have bought a better suv in my opinion. The gas milage is no that great but everything else makes up for it. The leg room in the rear seat is quite roomy, I had three big adults sit in the back and they were all comfortable. Highly recommend!
Best SUV EVER?!?
The Volkswagen Touareg has now set a standard for everyone else. This SUV is the best car purchase I have ever made. I am an avid hunter and I have taken this car through the toughest terrain, already!, and there is nothing that car stop this!
Problems with VW of America
The vehicle has lots of minor issues that can not be fixed by dealership. VW of America policy is to review all work done under warranty. Dealership will not fix lots of little items under warranty because they are afraid that once information is sent to VW, VW of America will evaluate items as not being necessary. In other words, VW of America will not fix items. They deem items to be functional within their parimeters. Calls to VW go unanswered. Car has been in shop for more than 15 days. In addition, maintenance policy for 4 years is very limited. Lots of exceptions.
GREAT
NICE CAR! BETTER FIT AN FINISH THAN OUR JAG XKR. BETTER PERFORMANCE, RIDE, ETC THAN THE ML430 WE TRADED. VERY QUIET AND A GREAT RIDE WITH THE AIR SUSPENSION.
it's not good
spend more time at dealer than anything- lemon
Torture
A gorgeous SUV promising lots but one major problem. The armrests in the forward doors chafe the arms of anybody over five foot eleven. Really, really annoying and stopped the buying right there and then.
VERY PROUD OWNER
MY TOUAREG IS RESPONSIVE ... HAS EASE OF HANDLING. FEELS LIKE HAVING CONTROL OF A CAR WHEN IN REALITY IT'S 6000 LBS OF A WELL BUILT TRUCK. VISIBILITY IS EXCELLENT. GREAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND FINISH IS OBVIOUS. AESTHETICALLY PLEASING TO THE EYE. GERMAN ENGINEERING AT ITS FINEST. VOLKSWAGEN SHOULD BE PROUD ... VERY PROUD! I AM A PROUD OWNER AND AM OFTEN REMINDED OF THAT WHEN I FIND MYSELF GIVING IMPROMPTU DEMONSTRATIONS/DISCUSSIONS TO CURIOUS STRANGERS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK VW.
good car bad service
i was very happy the day a got my volks it was a fun car to drive. LOTS of POWER.HOWEVER, those days are gone.I spent more time in the dealership than i could ever think possible.Volks folks should update their service to match with the $50k-$90k cars they sell. They should learn from lexus and acura (my wife's cars what customer service mean, not to mention RELIABILITY.I almost never get a loaner car, and when i do it's a rundown non automatic jetta.
Touareg Nightmare
VW does not stand behind its products. I have had my Touareg in the shop for various items including transmission problems for a total of 14 weeks since I purchased it. this truck cost $55,000 new and now I can't even sell it. The most I can get for a trade is $31,000. It needed new tires at 15,000 miles. It has wear caused by the failure of the stepper motor and VW would only pay for half of them. That was another $500 dpwn the drain. Also, it absolutely sucks gas, honestly, even driven when very gingerly. The transmission still shifts quirky and the brakes grab. I would not purchase another VW product for all the money in the world. I thought of claiming it under the lemon law, but who has the time for all that litigation. It squeaks and rattles all the time.
awsome ride
best luxury suv on the market.period
never know if it will start
This is an expensive vehicle that sould be a Suv to use it in any ocasion, but unfortunatly I'm always nervous of using it because you never know if it will start when I want to go back home.
First Year / Bad Year
I purchased the touareg and loved it for the first week then all hell broke loose, electircal problems, battery dieing, front seats had imperfections, paint was damaged by wraping for shipping, spots will not come of from the plastic and foam. My Touareg has been in the shop at least 11 times and I am requesting VW under the lemon law act a replacement. Signed Upset Mr.Jenifer
All that AND a bag of chips.
Great vehicle, I've even gotten my staunch BMW neighbor to trade his precious X5. Even though its not classified as a "Luxury" SUV, it made me trade my RX330 for it. It may be the price of most Lux. SUV's but it came with FAR more gadgets and gizmo's than my RX, and was just about the same price tag. Its fun to drive, and reasonably peppy for a V6. My expirince was great, from the test drive, to the sign & drive. I would have liked a V8, but after a test drive, I didn't think the V8 was worth the extra cash. Besides I got a loaded V6 for what would have been the price of a base V8. I love it, Its rugged when you want to be, and refined when you have to be.
TOUAREG!
I love this car, I recently purchased it. Mine has every option, and there have been no problems! This is my favorite car yet!
HOT VEHICLE
IV'E OWNED MANY SUV'S IN MY LIFE. THE TOUAREG BY FAR IS MY FAVORITE VEHICLE. DEFINITLY WOULD RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE TO ANY SUV SHOPPER.
Outstanding Value
Excellent aceleration, great interior. Adjustable suspension is great. Better value than Porsche.
V-8 Touareg - One satisfied owner
Car delivered the first week of August '04 - VIN 86xxx with a build date of May '04. Finished in Campy White/Teak - V-8, Premium + and Winter. Replaced '97 LandCruiser. Unlike many reviewers, I've not encountered a single problem with the Touareg in the first three months of ownership with close to 6k miles. No recalls, no trips to dealer except for oil change at 5k. Traveled to Montana with only 187 miles on the OD and returned with just under 5k and not a single problem. Very quick, nicely appointed, and looks great. Based on my personal experience I would not hesitate to recommend the Touareg to anybody with the need for an mid-size SUV. Negatives - Resale has been hit hard.
WOW - WHAT A RIDE
This car is fantastic. Got it for my wife, she loves it and I get it on the weekends. DO NOT BUY BMW, LEXUS, or ACURA -- this car is more stylish and has a better ride (AND CHEAPER) than the others.
premature infatuation
Me thinks I bought too quickly. After 3 previous VW purchases (over the 7 cars in my past), and a nice test drive, I thought I was making a wise purchase. After less than 3K miles, and 90 days, I am regretting this selection. V-6 does NOT have enough power - shame on VW for thinking so, and asking 5K more for a V8. Quirky and tempermental electrical system (numerous warning lights coming and going w/ no resolve from the dealer - YET). Interior trim peeling on driver door (yuck, did I buy a KIA)?! Can't sell it for what I owe- feel I have a middle of the road car at a high-end price - as I expected much more from VW and much more in a 40K car. Hope VW is listening (this may be my last VW)
Toe-Rag
It does everything but make you coffee in the morning. Changing gear in drive (as opposed to sport) is a bit sluggish, but comparable to most SUV's (exception being the Cayenne). Horsepower is a bit low for the V8, but understand they plan on a V10 Diesel, with improved hp and gas mileage (better then the V6). Versatility for off-road, highway travel, hazardous travel (like flooding after hurricane Isabel), and the everyday commute. Large enough to carry two dogs comfortably in the back (with seats down). Perfect size for the all around sportsman.
Super Utility Vehicle
As an owner of four previous SUV's, this by far is the best one I have owned (including a Range Rover)! The only beef one can have is with the gas mileage...my F150 actually gets better gas mileage! Other than that, the car is a dream in every respect.
Still breaking it in...
We've had this 'truck' for just a week. We traded in our W8 Passat for a bit more vehicle and a bit more payment; my wife has had her heart set on an SUV for some time and I finally succumbed to her wishes for once. She loves it, I like it. It's roomier, nicer, and feels much more luxurious. We got the base V8 with an upgraded stereo system, bi-xenon lights and the winter package. Thus far we've only put about 400 miles on it, and no off- roading, but that's coming soon.
Touareg
we bought in 10/03...love it. never had an SUV previously because felt too much like a truck. very comfortable, great ride.
Best Vehicle Ever
Really great looking fun to drive vehicle. Interior fit and finish unbelievable.
great suv
This toureg is just what i have been looking for.Offroading, cruising, and still has that bgreat luxury feel.No wonder it won motor trend suv of the year!
Not Ready for Prime time
I've owned about 8 other VWs over the years, and this may be the last. Reliability poor: transmission and running gear replaced. Tire pressure warning system erratic. Eats tires (replaced at 18K). Gas mileage is very poor. Very complex car, lots of electronics, much to go wrong. If you buy this car, be sure to purchase an extended warranty
Run for Your Life
I fell in love with the Volkswagen Touareg after one test drive. Had I known the issues that were going to crop up I would have made another choice. I love the ride and handling of this SUV but I'm reaching the point where that doesn't matter anymore. I've had this truck in for service at least once a month since I bought it. I've even had to take it in for service while on vacation. How much does that stink?! Many of the problems have been linked to the electrical system (which they know is bad and refuse to fix) but now it's my transmission that's going wonky. Not only does it jerk while shifting gears, now it's making a loud screaming noise. VWoA needs to get a clue and own up to the issues!
Best Real!!! SUV
The best SUV for the price. Real off road capability, with good on road ability. Fit and finish is first class. Needs a bit more power, but V-6 is enough for every day use. Great looks, much better looking then a x5. Look no further!!!
Solid Performance, Superior Styling
I formerly owned a Honda CRV, but I wanted something more comfortable, more stylish and more upscale for the commute to work. I test drove all of the available models, with price being basically no object, and this was by far the best bet in balancing price and comfort. It's truly high-end on the interior, with great exterior styling, too.
CROSS USA/CANADA TEST DRIVE
Through the good graces of my friend, who owns the local VW dealer (free plug: Montesi VW, North Haven, CT), I was able to pick up my new Touareg at the port and proceed to take a cross country adventure with my kids for almost the entire summer. We gave the Touareg a good test, driving 10,600 miles over six weeks, about 200 of those off-road. All I can say is that when I find a woman I like as much as this car, I'll consider a relationship. Thoroughly fun on road and off-smooth at speeds of 100mph, and the Nav system is fantastic. I ran into a Cayenne owner who was dismayed that he didn't wait for the Touareg. Need I say more?
A Touareg is like a Fine Wine
The Touareg - is a gr8 SUV - you will enjoy all of its features - VW thought out a lot of thinks for the driver - this is a driver's SUV/Sports car 4wd - tight handling - great tires/brakes - you really feel the road - I had it in the snow , just eats it up . If you want to enjoy you ride to work - this is the car - everyone at work wants a ride - people think you paid a lot more fro the Treg than you really did - tons of buttons and knobs - you will have fun learning all the new features - very happy - it is a whole new level of Mid price SUV.
Big Satisfaction, small disappointments
This is our first SUV, as the kids are older and we are downsizing from a minivan. The handling is excellent, even on snow and ice. We have not been able to take the T-reg offroad as yet. Power with the V6 is adequate; if I were towing a boat, I would probably want a larger engine, as the V-6 barely holds its own on merging on the highway. The NAV system is disappointing. Entering destinations is not intuitive. The NAV CD-ROM takes the only slot in the car. A 6 disc CD changer is in the back. This should be reversed. Although there is an AUX button labelled on the radio, there is no auxiliary input for an MP3 play, which is disappointing in a high-end car. Comfy!
After 50,000 Miles.
I have now driven my V6 Touareg 55,000 miles. I have two complaints, it is a gas guzzler and it lack of power. At 5,000 lbs. plus, I don't know what they were thinking when they put in a V6. Other than that, it has been an awesome vehicle. To date it has only needed one set of spark plugs and oil and filter have been the only maintenance. Winter driving is sheer fun up here in the Laurentian Mountains. this is a poor man's Porsche Cayenne or Audi Q7.
Best Rig Ever
Totally comfortable and powerful...a smooth ride.
Best so Far
Had a lot of questions on the Touareg Read all I could find . Went out and test drove the touareg and I was HOOKED, had to have one. Talked to the wife and went out that night and bought my Venition Green with Tan leather... sharp looking combo. V8 runs like a bear. Had a Lincoln LS, performance is as good if not better then the LS. Car is solid, heavy feel, pulls 7700 lbs. I feel it out performs the BMW X5, Benz ML, and Lexus 330. Very quiet on the road and can't hear or feel if the engine is running. Recommend it highly. So far soooo gooood. Mileage could be better, but when you look at the performance, Guess you have to pay for it. Avg. 16mpg. Heavy-foot it and you get 14mpg. Very happy.
AWESOME CAR!!
This is most likely the greatest vehicle I've ever purchased. The last car I owned was a 2002 Cadillac Escalade, and the Toureg beats it without any doubt. The first time I saw this car, I thought it was the Porsche Cayanne. But after test- driving both, I decided that I liked the Toureg better. Porcsche should stick to making cars... I reccomend buying this car for anyone looking for a mid size SUV under $45,000. Volkswagon has done it again!
Andy's Touareg
Just a wonderful vehicle. Drives well, is very comfortable, performs really well, and a great family car.
Great machine
Super suv - what performance - great air suspension - rides like a dream. on sport setting - holds road like a porsche - outstanding vehicle - great audio system - good navigation system - unbelivable offroad performance.
Best Value in its class
I've had it for about 60 days and 2000 miles and so far everything is great. I checked out the RX330, X5, and MDX and quickly narrowed it down to the X5 or Touareg. The VW was much less expensive and a comparable vehicle so thats what I went with.
Cable Volkswagen at its best
Dealership was awesome. Salesman was extremely nice, John was very knowledgeable. Did everything we ever needed. The SUV is amazing! we looked all over and this one just feels and drives the best.
my VW Toureg
Heavy and secure car. Very comfortable ride. High quality workmanship inside and out. I like the european styling. The the interior is more ellegant then the Japanese cars. Hope to have it for a long time.
very dissapointed
vehicle makes a whining sound from transmission 1 out of 10 times vehicle will not start suspension is very noisey steering wheel heater only warms bottom of wheel transmission hesatates on downshift very clunky one would expect more from a $43,000 vehicle poor dealership service. had to wait over a week to bring it in for these problems also note that they gave me no loaner vehicle the general manager of this dealership wound not return my calls when i told the dealer i wanted to be bought out of this vehicle they said they would at best give me $31,000 back big loss for a two week old poor quality vehicle.what does that say for volkswagon ?
V8 T-Reg,
Great SUV, Most SUV's forget the "sport" and only remeber the U and the V. My T-Reg dosen't disappoint in the pefomance dept, the only problem is that I am racing from gas station to gas station.
The T-Reg
We love our Touareg! After 10 months of ownership it has been a pleasure. It never slips a tire in snow, (Even where we live!), carries tons of landscaping and looks like a million bucks for a night on the town!
Still thinking about it.
The Volkswagen Touareg V6 handles great. It is not affected by high wind and standing water like most cars. Its brakes are a bit grabby, but very effective. The transmission has some slop when starting off from a rolling stop. Its acceleration is very good but has some dead spots unless you use the sport mode or tectonic manual feature. Premium fuel is necessary to maintain performance. I would have bought the V8 except that the price difference was to great. The low range selection is effortless and what a power trip. I love that feature. The seats support 200 pounds without crushing. I have been experiencing some problems with forward vision during turns. The windshield posts get in the way. I'm still waiting for all the electronics to stop working; it's loaded with them.
Great SUV
This is the best auto that I have owned. It is a great for people need something a bigger than a car with enough room for road trips. I will either purchase this one or buy a new in August 07. Great for empty nesters looking to hit the road and feel very safe.
