One of the Best SUVs!!!
I tested and studied many SUVs before getting this one and I have to say it's the best value for the money right now and probably for a while. It's not the best in all of the fields, but it is either equal or better than the others. Something only a few can claim and prove. Performs similar to a BMW X5-on road, rides similar to a Lexus RX330, and performs similar to a Range Rover- off road.
Fantastic Value
Have had our Touareg for about 6 weeks now. What a great vehicle. All the "bells and whistles" you could ever want at a great price (compared to competition). Subtle exterior styling, incredible interior fit and finish. Long time (and current) BMW owner and was looking at the BMW X5 (great vehicle also). But when comparing price & features, VW won by a landslide.

My Touareg
I love the Touareg. It is such a nice car. I love every aspect of it, especially the nice details. I love the sunroof and the seats. They are very comfy.
WOW!
After 6 months in my V8 Touareg, I'm happy I bought it instead of leasing it, it is AMAZING!!!! It looks and feels gret inside and out, has great performance on-road and off (unlike most SUV's in this category AND out), it's has better than Mercedes comfort and performance, with Hummer-like off- road capabilities. I LOVE THIS THING!!
Over priced with all short falls
Good, not great overall. GPS is accurate but has very poor software, lacking information that most other software(DeLorme) offers at a very resonable price. Buy a palm and software from DeLorme for less than half VW's cost and get ten times the information. Problems with rear seat belt and tricky back seats to lay flat. GM is much easier. Go with V8 not V6, more money but much more satifaction. Both engines get poor mileage, under EPA rateings. Premium fuel. Been back to dealer several times, still needs work. Very poor trade in value. How did so many people mistankenly decide this was a supposed outstanding vehicle?
05 Touareg
This vehicle is very well built. It proforms well for such a heavy vehicle. My dealership offered me an excellent deal without the bull. The Touareg surpass vehicles such as your BMW,Benz and Lexus in overal quility. VW continues to make a good affordable high quility vehicle.
on first name basis with service dept
I bought my touareg sept 2 and since then it has been in the shop five times.three for the rear window sensor not locking properly, two for the ESP not operating properly. My touareg has spent a cumulative week and a half in the shop and i havent even had it for a month yet.i wish i had ESP because if i did i would have never bought this truck...
Awesome VW
Absolutely the best vehicle we test drove in our search. The build quality and fit-and-finish was stellar.
What a car!
I have only had the Touareg for a few weeks now but I love this vehicle. I have owned Mercedes, BMW's, Land Rovers, and Audi's. This VW stands up to all of them with shining colors! It has that special German road car feel, is very comfortable and fast (V8). It has a comanding view of the road without feeling too large which makes it fun to drive. In my opinion, dollar for dollar, it beats everything else out there like it.
I love this vehicle!
I just love this thing. She's an excellent peice of work, especially when you compare it against the others. this is my 30th vehicle, my only complaints, lots of technology to learn, and she loves her gas!! I find it too much of a pain to put the CD's in the rear, so I just use the dash.
VW Touareg
Now don't let the name fool you its one of the best lux suv's out there! Edmonds says it's a crossover but no crossover handels this well off road. The only thing that I wouldn't mind being changed on the Touareg is the name.
very poor insides
you have 2 very poor dealersip repair shop in denver and do not keep there word.the one on colfax also does not tell the truth . does not carry about the customer. there is more!!!!!!!!!!!
SUVW
The Touareg is the finest SUV on the market! It shows up Land Rovers on their own off-road tracks. It runs as if it is on its tippy toes. Capable of pulling 7700lbs and wading into water that causes a bow wave. Interior features are comfortable, practical and solid. Exterior and Interior both have smooth lines and are made of the aviation grade materials. The Touareg has a combination of simplicity and sophistication that you just can't help but to marvel over. Driving the Touareg falls into one of those categories of: "It's just one of those things you have to try to understand!"
Perfection
Perfection on and offroad, very sophisticated technology and attention in every small detail, excellent comfort (air suspension) and safety standards, impressive ride and beautiful design, easily the best high- end 4X4 till today. Makers tried their very best here... Range Rovers and MLs beware.
whyshouldi
its a superb suv`
PERFECT AUTO
Rarely have I been compelled to express my satisification with a product, but not to recognize this vehicle as being perfect in every regard - would be a sin!
T-Reg
Awesome vehicle! I will move up to a V- 8 or V-10 next year for more performance
Got to check out the Touareg
The handling, the performance it's just amazing. The towing capacity is great. Very luxury interior as well as german suv look.
Loaded V8 what a treat
This is my first SUV. I traded my 2002 Passat in for the 04 Touareg. I was looking for an SUV that "felt" like a car and I found it. I didn't want to write a review though until I returned from my camping trip. Even on the ORV trails, I couldn't believe how smooth it drove. It took steep hills and streams like nothing. I am very impressed and so are my SUV die-hard friends. I love this SUV and am so glad I made the switch. It gets a lot of looks too.
A complete Vehicle
I just traded in my 2002 BMW 330 coupe for V8 Touareg. The car handles and accelerates like the beamer. Ride is naturally more comfortable, very quite. The interior is very luxurious with high quality material. I test drove X5 and FX45 before I opted for this car. The 6000lb gross weight and tax deduction is a great bonus on Touareg. I bought the car brand new at $2500 bellow invoice price (because of time of the year) and got a great price on my trade in ($1500 more than other dealers were offering). I sent my offer to 6 local dealers through E-mail. I choose the one who gave me the best trade in value. Mountain VW of Denver were very accomodateing.
Move over rover...
I was hesitant to trade in my '00 Discovery II but after I saw and drove my new Touareg I told them to take old yeller out back and get it over with. Awesome car, I haven't been this excited about anything in years. I'm even thinking of getting rid of my Boxster!
VW Touareg
If you can get by the funny name, the Touareg is well designed midsize SUV. The interior is comfortable and has a lot of standard features that were options on other SUVs that I looked at. It handles the snow without any difficulty, and rides like a dream on the open highway. If it does have a downside it is it's fuel mileage. This is the SUV I picked after test drives in the Lexus RX330 and Infiniti FX35 since the price was the same and I felt I got more for my money with the Touareg.
New Touareg
Great Interior, lots of toys with the Premium package. Radio is excellent. lacks back seat room. good cargo space, for future models I would expect a movable rear seat (available on the M class mercedes benz). the aftermarket rubber floor matts are a $99 must for bad weather cities or muddy children.
Very Pleased Indeed
This is an extraordinary SUV. I prize its high speed highway manners. Close your eyes and you can imagine that it is a 7 series BMW sedan. High speeds, cross winds phase it not at all. The engine transmission combination is a winner! Very silky and satisfying. I compared it to the Volvo XC90, MDX and Cayenne S. Actually this one was the winner for long distance driving. Yes the Cayenne has an edge if you want to toss it around, but it is less comfortable for long trips. We had a couple of minor warning light glitches that the dealer solved at once.
Now, THAT's an SUV...
I've owned three SUV's (89 Bronco, 01 Pathfinder LE, and 03 Touareg) in the 12 years and neither of them comes close to this car. I can clearly see why this car won the Motor Trend car of the year. All of the standard features were enough, particularly at a relatively low base price (ie: Volvo XC90).
Big Problems
We have owned the vehicle for about 3 months and the problems keep mounting. Terrible transmission. Gear changing is very hard and unpredictable. VW says this is normal. Seats are not comfortable and the vehicle rides rough. We like the Interior features such as the Navigation and Stereo. The constant reminders going off are annoying. We have taken it for 7 problems in a 4 month period, including 3 recalls. We wish we could trade it but the value has dropped like a rock so we are stuck with it. Let VW fix the many issues and consider purchasing one in about 3 years. Maybe then the transmission will actually resemble a car and not a bulldozer.
X5 Beater
I took me alomost a month to decide between the VW and the X5. Boy did I make the right call. Other than a little pep off the line the VW holds its own with the Bimmer and then some. VW has better AWD system and suspension and is just a blast to drive. If you are looking for an SUV that handles exit ramps at 80+ and can go off road, this is the place to be.
SUV for me - never - until this one
Not much to say - just drive one and you're hooked. Very smooth, very luxurious, very quiet. Love the styling, too.
MY BABY
A GREAT SUV.FUN TO DRIVE .TROUBLE FREE ..THE BEST MY MONEY COULD BUY.EVEYBODY NEEDS ONE OF THESE
Great Car
Great car to drive, very solid ride
A very nice SUV
An excellent vehicle for what it is, an SUV (not a big fan of the genre). This is my wife's car and we have been longtime VW owners (we traded in her 2002 Passat 1.8T 5spd). We almost did not get it and went with the BMW X3 because VW does not offer the Touareg in the US with a manual transmission (for shame!). This was a disappointment for my wife but not a deal breaker (it would have been for me) and she does enjoy the Tiptronic automatic but would still prefer the manual.
suprised i own a touareg
my husband who hates to drive suv's loves this vehicle (he drives a european performance car). as for myself i was worried about the touareg's ability to handle new england winters. to my suprise this vehicle was able to get me thru back to back noreasterner snow storms with ease. my driving views are unobstructed. the weight of the vehicle in gives me a sense of safety especially in high winds (not top heavy). as a former owner of an escape and explorer i am pleasantly surprised with this vehicle (a tank in sheeps clothing). note my other choices before purchasing this vehicle were the acura mdx, volvo xc90, bmw x-5 and this was my first choice.
Should have keep the BMW
I have had nothing but problems from day one. The rear hatch was ready to fall off from the factory. When the hatch was opened it buckled against the roof and bent the roof. There are noises that come from under the dash that the service people have not heard before. Now the display tells me that I have a Break Failure. Would I purchase another or another VW? NO! I have talked to 3 other owners that would love to get out of their Lease. As time goes on it only gets worse..
LOVE IT!!
I love everything about my Touareg except for one thing. The gas mileage. It kills me(and my wallet!) every time I fill up. It gives the word "guzzler" a whole new meaning! However, it is so much fun to drive and I love it so much that I have decided to overlook this one flaw. Also, I receive comments, questions and compliments on it everywhere I go. My Touareg receives more attention than any other vehicle I've ever owned.
Simply the Best
Build quality and materials are on par or better than Mercedes Benz, Rover, BMW, et al. The appointments are first rate; everything has the feel, look and action of quality. The performance on and off road surpass or equal the mighty Rover and Mercedes, with on/off road handling surpassing both. The powerful V8 engine is so smooth and quiet one must check the tachometer for engine idle.
Still love it after 10K miles
I made myself wait to write a review because I wanted to make sure the initial euphoria had worn off. It's been 10,000 miles in 6 months - and I'm still loving this car ! I took it off-road on several occasions in remote areas of SW Texas. I was not only on tough dirt roads - but also literally off-road. The Touareg's ground clearance and low gear gave me plenty of confidence to handle steep hills, ruds and holes - standing water and mud. I just didn'tdare drive it through thick brush as I am still feeling a bit protective of the nice paint job.
Think twice about the Touareg
We bought the VW T, 8c, primarily looking for an SUV with the weight benefit for tax purposes (greater than 6k lbs.) The Touareg is great fun to drive, but the problems we have had with it, to date (9 months) have been RIDICULOUS. Started from day 1, when things were broken after getting back from the dealership. 3 different recall issues having to visit the service dealership. Dozens of little things, that are annoying and need to be fixed with service visits. I'd advise against the Touareg at least until the 2005 model year... too many things wrong with the first model year here in the US. memo to VW.. work on service if you want to compete
My Review
A very comfortable drive with plenty of driving features. Navigation computers can require alot of attention to initially learn. recommend someone take at least 1 hour in there driveway and fiddle with the navigation system
My best car so far
After owning a 2001 BMW X5 4.4 l, and a 2002 Mercedes ML 500, I can seriously say, the Toareg V8, fully equipped is in the same price league and far superior. We take long trips to Utah, Death Valley, comfort on the highway is slightly better than the Mercedes, much better than the BMW. Acceleration, with the six speed automatic is better than both. The largedifference is when you go off road. The Touareg is a true class five off roads, we go where Jeep tours are surprised we got there, or won't even go further. The ability of the Touareg to do highway anf off road best is based on its adjustable road clearance. Low for hairpins, high for no road at all.
my VW Toureg
Heavy and secure car. Very comfortable ride. High quality workmanship inside and out. I like the european styling. The the interior is more ellegant then the Japanese cars. Hope to have it for a long time.
Great machine
Super suv - what performance - great air suspension - rides like a dream. on sport setting - holds road like a porsche - outstanding vehicle - great audio system - good navigation system - unbelivable offroad performance.
The best of everything
I love my Touareg. It handles as well as my Audi S4 and has much more utility. The build quality is impeccable and there really isn't an SUV that rides better. Of course the off road capabilities are amazing, but I'll never use them. I think it's really overengineered, but it works. Dealership is great and has taken care of me thus far.
vw did again
I wanted a safe SUV. I test drove a lot of the others, but the quality, safety & styling of the Touareg won me over. I would do it again. I wish they could better mpg, but 16 mpg in city that I get isn't so bad.
Love My Touareg
When I purchased my Touareg I had no intention of getting a new car. I was dropping my Jetta off for a broken tail light and decided to take the Touareg for a test drive, needless to say I signed over my Jetta and drove home in a Touareg three days later! I absolutely LOVE this truck and in spite of a few minor bugs I wouldn't trade it for anything. I get so many compliments on the truck wherever I go.
Touar-iffic!!
This is the most awesome vehicle ever! I have never had so much fun with a car!
2004 touareg
it's a good and fun car to drive; it performs very well. the only thing that it could be better is the fuel mileage.
Beauitful, yet HUNGRY
After test driving many other SUV's in this class, the VW Touareg lurred me to the bargaining table. It drives like a charm, and the options I added, (navigation, parking assistance, xenon lights) make it a pleasure to drive. Though, I'm less than pleased with my need to refill the tank weekly, with an average mile per gallon of 13-14. Overall though, I don't regret my purchase, just double think my routes!
Best SUV in its class
This is the most impressive SUV on the market and it provides the most features for the money. Power of the V8 is phenomenal (not to mention the exhaust note), interior design and build-quality are top-notch (no other SUV comes close), exterior design is gorgeous...I can go on and on. :-)
four runner to touareg
Great car . excellent build. you musttry it. downfall is the poor gas mileage. other than that the only thing the comes close is the range rover.
The best SUV for the money
One of the best SUV's on the market for the money at the present time.
