Problems with locking on rear hatch. I have it that it should be unlocked with other doors...sometime is, sometimes not. Back passanger do sticks. Auto button sets temp to 72, not where you have it set. Air always blows on windshield even if redirected...causes condensation at night, morning, and rainy days. Wheel skweek. Volkswagen cannot figure out alignment problem on vehicle.

I have had the truck for 5 months now and I have put 5,300 miles on. My major complant is that the gas mileage is awful (I get 13.5 MPG on average using the AUTOMATIC setting compared to the VW listed 18MPG. If use the Autostick or Sport functions it drops my MPG to 10.5!!). I do find the ride to comfortable and the power to be ample, but I don't think that the Writers of these "Editor's choice" pieces are taking into account the cost of the vechicle and the overall, longterm ownership of the vehicle. They don't account for the $105 oil changes and the cost of Premium gas that it requires.

Good Looking Manufacturer Buyback

Factory Buyback. Our 2004 Touareg was great looking, great off-road (low-range rocks!) but was a miserable experience until the day VW (was forced) to buy it back: The V6 engine is weak and sucks down fuel. My new BMW X5 4.4i gets much better gas mileage. The Touareg had tire pressure monitoring failures from the day we bought it. We had trim and rattle problems, squealing rotors, remote lock/unlock issues, A/C windshield fogging problems, and a wiper blade that flew off in a rainstorm. 23 shops days in under 10,000 miles. After three repeat repair attempts and filing Lemon law, VW tried lawyering out of it until losing the arbitration. PS - I love my new BMW X5...Are you listening, Zieter?

The first week I had the SUV the electronic instruments went out. It took VW a week to get the new computer in. Since then they had to replace the stepper motor to control the 4 wheel drive. The stepper motor had to be ordered and that took a week. All tires had to be replace because of alignment problems. Door handles had to be replaced. The horn had to be replaces. The rear window wipers did not work.
