Tiguan is a winner.
Excellent motor. Stylish, comfortable, nicely drivable, and has a good presence.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST!
I know I’m late to the game but my 2018 VWSE Tiguan started acting up just very recently. Although it is a nice looking rice, it gets a D-. I’ve had it for less than a year and there are too many things wrong with it. Seats are horribly uncomfortable and I can’t take it on long drives, due to the non-cushion seat. My CarPlay recently started disconnecting and doesn’t work most of the time.(I have tried other iPhones and usb cords and the dealer said, it was my iPhone causing the issue!!) Today while stopped at a res light, my whole engine cuts off and my car is telling me to shift to park and re-start?! Like what the hell. It’s done this twice. Anytime I need to make a quick turn, the Tiguan stalls and I have to push the gas pedal to the floor and it still won’t go! Driving slow in the parking lot causes the car to jerk and miss gear shifts sometimes. I’m starting to see the same thing happen with other Tiguan owners and it’s a shame.

Body/bumper worthless
I have never hit anything, the bumper doesn't have any type of visual scratches or damage but the clips to the bumper are broken. The car is only about a year old and they will not fix. Think twice about buying. When Tiguan was new I had an oil leak. Took to dealership and was "fixed". Three months later it was leaking oil again. I used to swear by VW and over the years have owned 5 and recommend them to everyone. Not sure I will ever buy one again.

The Non-Luxury, Luxury SUV!
The new Tiguan is really as step above anything in its segment, and that's why I bought one. The fit and finish is certainly a notch above the competition, and at this price point, there's just nothing that comes close. What I really enjoy about the Tiguan is that it has the torquiest of engines in this segment, and it makes for a fun-to-drive, almost sedan-like nimbleness that's again, non-existent in this segment. Leatherette seats on every trim, save for the base trim means that you have to spend less money to have that as an option, so I really appreciate that (I bought an Tiguan SE, by the way). Also, 3rd row seating is non-existent in this segment, so it's a welcomed feature in the Tiguan. If I sound like I'm praising the Tiguan, well, yes, I am! To get all of the things the Tiguan offers, you'd have to jump into the entry-level luxury SUV segment, and that's out of my budget. Thus, the Tiguan fills in that gap with German minimalism, and design. You just can't go wrong with it. If I had to complain about the Tiguan, there are only two things, but nothing that would be considered deal-breakers, in my opinion. First, the glass infotainment gets very smudgy when touching it, and needs constant cleaning. Second, when the engine shifts from 1st to 2nd gear it's a little jerky, but you really have to be paying attention to actually notice it. Case in point, my wife can't even tell when it shifts, so no everyone will be annoyed, but I sure can feel it, and it does bug me. Still, I'd recommend this SUV over any of the Japanese, and American competitors. It's a fun SUV, and life's too short to be driving dull cars!
