Review of the 2007 Passat 4Motion Wagen

The electronics in this vehicle stink! The sensor wipers only work when it is not raining. The steering wheel touch controls only work sometimes. The air bags light comes on for weeks at a time, then just goes off. The low tire pressure light comes on, even if you completely empty the tires, fill them up correctly, and even overfill them. Also, the folding back seat is poorly designed. My other car is a Volvo xc70. The guys in Germany should buy a Volvo and study it. I got the Passat, because I thought it would be weird to have two of the same car. What a mistake. I should have gotten two Volvos. The price was about the same. I can't wait for the lease to end.

A fun car to drive when it's not in the shop. As most people have noted electrical issues are constant and irritating. For me, it has been trunk latch issues - trunk won't latch or pops open when driving. Dealer took 3 visits to fix. Mirrors move unpredictably, sometimes while driving. A/c failed and whole compressor needed replacement. Every time the temp drops below zero the steering controls short meaning the whole unit must be replaced. All of this is under warranty but what a waste of time. I can't wait to get rid of this lemon - very sad considering this is my 4th vw. But never again!

Before you buy

Bought this car 11 days ago. Took it back after 24 hrs w/ ignition coil issue (I was merging onto the highway and lost all power) Took it back again today and had all 4 spark plugs replaced. I have had check engine lights coming on and off everyday. The gas cap light keeps coming on as well. I really like the way the car looks and drives but I'm nervous about the cost to own it. I did buy a power train warranty which unfortunatly does not cover electrical issues. I would recommend having a mechanic that knows VW look at the car very closely before you buy it. Lots of little problems equal one big headache.

I sold my Golf TDI and my Excursion Diesel for the 07 Wagon, super base model. I could not be happier. Great room, super comfortable (I am 6'7", 310#), drove to CA in one day (900 miles) 13 hrs of comfort and luxury, 30+ mpg fully loaded going an average of 68 mph over 13 hrs. Nothing sore, the kids were not once complaining. I am a realtor, drive a lot in the city traffic, gets 23 mpg. Love the car, no issues whatsoever, Autohold feature is the best in the city, cruise control preset feature is very useful, trip computer rocks, stereo is the best ever. Maintenance is cheap, $58 for first oil change at the dealer.

$ For $ Best Wagon Out There

This wagon justs keeps getting better and better every day. Mileage is up to 32 mpg on highway and getting better after 5K oil change. Get the Luxury 2 package to truly enjoy all the features. Wife loves the roominess, safety and overall luxuary feel. The 2.0 Turbo engine is amazing. I'm making up reasons just to go for a drive. Dollar for dollar, the Passat out classes, out performs, and gets better mpg than anything out there. This is a sleeper that needs to be considered before spending more on Audi/BMW/Volvo, or settling for less.
