Used 2006 Volkswagen Passat Consumer Reviews
Looks Good. Huge Headache! DON'T BUY A 2006 PASSAT!!
I hate this car! I am currently selling it "AS IS". I have spent over $5K in the last 2 years that I have owned it. I like the way it looks and that is it! This car has been nothing but problems!!! The Check engine lights is always on. As soon as it gets out of the shop, it goes right back in for something completely different. There are no "cheap" repairs on this car. Nobody but a VW repair shop can work on them, and then they charge an arm and leg! If you live in a small town, it impossible to find someone who even knows how to change the oil properly. Plus they cost $150.00! Will by buying a Toyota Camry this time. NEVER WILL I BUY A VW!!
DO NOT BUY
We bought the car from my brother-in-law who bought it new and did regular maintenance like clockwork only used synthetic oil. It had 90k miles on it when we bought and was in immaculate condition besides the peeling on inside front doors. We drove 150 miles and lost oil pressure had to be towed 150 miles from home. Dealer said needed new motor $7500 and that didn't include turbo replacement. We went with an autorepair shop instead and spent 5500. Within the next 150 miles the oil was leaking. Turned out to be rear main seal and that is another 1200. We have 15k in a used car with only 90k miles on it.......Ridiculous. VW should do something about all the problems. This should be covered under lemon law.

I Wanted To Like This Car
I bought this car in 2008 with 17,000 miles on it. Now it has 40,000 on it and it's been in the shop 3 times. The first time it went in the exhaust pipe ripped right out of the turbo and it sounded like a diesel truck. The next morning after I got it back I put my A/C on and it didn't work,so back to the dealer I went. They had to replace the whole compressor and flush the system. Two months after that it started to make a growling noise when I hit the throttle hard to pass, guess what I took it back and they said it was the cam shaft. I got it back last week and tonight I went to pick my daughter up from day care put the key in and tried to start it up and the engine is locked up.(JUNK)
Just bought a new 2006
Just bought a new leftover 2006 3.6. Got a great deal since the 2008s were already on the lot. Although silver is never my first choice in color, I think this is a great looking car. It has just the right amount of chrome and black trim. The 17in wheels are handsome too. It does need premium gas, but the highway mileage has been terrific, especially considering the performance of the 3.6 engine. The interior and trunk are beautifully finished. The exterior fit/finish are flawless. The console does creak a little but I think the plastic is more temperature sensitive than a flaw in essembly. On a couple days when the temp went above say 45, console didn't creak.
My 3rd Passat and the Best
This 2006 3.6 Passat is my 3rd. For quality, ride, comfort, and mileage it's the best. I commute 35 miles each way to work, and daily checking my mileage computer; I get 31-33 MPG! And, that's not all cruising! On road trips, I also have validated mileage of 31-34 MPG at highway speeds. This vehicle is vastly under-appreciated. It compares with ANY, more highly visible, family sport sedans. As importantly, my dealership; Britt VW, is a gem. Great car, great dealership, and great daily fun driving a car that handles exceptionally, is comfortable, has all the power you need, and gets great mileage. Fact is, this 2006 3.6 auto gets better mileage than my 2003 V6 5- speed!
