Still a nice car after 2 yrs and 40,000 miles. Car brought in for 40,000 mile service, rear break pads were worn and I was shocked to find pads and rotors need to be replaced as same time. I'm used to honda & toyota & subaru where the front breaks do the work (and need service) and the rear breaks can be pretty much ignored.

I love our wagon and I test drove a lot of wagons before we bought this one. It is reliable, sporty and perfect for someone downsizing from an SUV (we had an Explorer) It is the safest car out there and you are not limited to a trunk. The back opens up and the back seats lay flat giving plenty of room.

Don't Buy a VW w/ 1.8T engine

The Passat with a 1.8T engine is horrible! it has been in and out of the shop with many problems including the engine had to be replaced at 31,000 miles. VW North America would not stand by the product until a law suit was threatened. Bottom line... avoid the car. There is a reason why VW is rated next to last by JD Powers for customer satisfaction.

Disappointed with GLS Wagon

Made a mistake purchasing this vehicle. Build quality and dealer service have been poor. Paint had numerous small blems. Rear hatch trim replaced twice. Roof line trim inserts bow up. Fully loaded highway ride not comfortable. 1.8T slow off the line - OK at speed. Fuel economy not great. Tip: on your test drive set tire pressure to mfg spec - this dealer sets them low to smooth out ride.

I used to love my Passat. It is great fun to drive and roomy, while feeling extremely safe. Then, I recently started having electrical problems on my 5-month old car. I cannot get through to anyone at any local VW service shops. I repeatedly call but can never reach any person. As directed, I leave voice messages, and despite the receptionists' promises to have someone return my call shortly, no response at all. Ever. Do you research and you will find that VWs owners repeatedly have the same two complaints: electrical problems and poor service. Both these problems have existed for years and do not seem to be changing. I won't buy another VW.
