I bought my 2000 TDI GLS Jetta a little more than 3 years ago. I use it for work and drive, on average, 275 miles/day. I had all the features you could get with the GLS - leather, sunroof, winter package, alloy wheels, etc. The other day I reached 200,000 miles. I never had any unexpected repairs and the car remained in excellent condition until the other day. Unfortunately, the same day I hit 200k a woman crossed the median on the highway and we collided in a 65 MPH crash. While the car was totaled, the cabin remained in tact as did all the glass - with the exception of a cracked windshield and I walked away with only a few minor bruises.

I know not why there is not greater availability of these cars...they provide good performance, are extremely comfortable and relaxed at high speeds on long drives, and are very economical to operate. Mine has achieved between 43 and 47 mpg so far. In real world driving conditions, they far outperform most Hybrids on performance AND economy. I have not had any major problems to date, but I DO NOT go to VW dealerships anymore as they are not famililiar with these cars and when faults do occour (usually in the engine management system) they are unable to solve the problems.

great car it sips diesel great mileage i drive 236 miles a day with only a problem with the a/c sent it to shop 3 times different shops

My 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI is the worst car I've ever owned. It has had lots and lots of problems with the front end, brakes etc... the list is endless. Don't make the same mistake I made, buy a Honda or Toyota. I spent all my free time at the dealership, waiting for the latest excuse why my car won't run right, but how there is nothing wrong with the car.

This car is the worst I have ever owned. The CD player does not work on the left channels and has been to the dealer 4 times and still does not work. The windows fall down in the door and cannot be rolled up without repair. VW has extended warrenty on windows but will not honor previous repairs. This is the first and last VW I will own!!!!!
