I completely agree with one other posting here. This car has been more trouble than ANY other I can think of. I have had every major electrical problem possible and everytime I fix one, another occurs. The entire ignition system has been replace, TWICE. My last comment is that VW customer service stinks. Sure, the people are nice to talk to but they won't help you out financially at all. Read those warranties carefully everybody!

I bought my 1996 Volkswagen Jetta GLX/VR6 in February 2001. It was 5 years old with 46,000 miles. I have had it for one year and I have had no problems with it. There are 60,000 miles on it and I plan to drive another 60,000.

Great car to drive with lots of pick up. Handling is superb. Lots of little problems that cause big heartache. Electronic system is terrible with things constantly going wrong. 3 of 4 power windows have been repaired, ABS problem, coilpack arcing, exterior molding prone to problems, falling off trim, molding, emblems, faulty AC line pump.

I LOVE MY JETTA! I bought my Jetta brand new in '96. It has taken me back and forth to school countless times (300 miles one way), cross country twice and to Alaska. 73000 miles later, I still love my Jetta and have had no problems. I have gotten the scheduled VW maintenance every 7500 miles, without fail. I had to have the drivers door lock replaced in TX, but have not had any problems with it since, even in AK with below 0 temperatures. In fact, last winter, my Jetta sat outside for a week when the temperature didn't get above 0 and she started right up, no problems! I've only had to have the brakes and battery replaced. I really cannot say enough!

My Jetta has been extremely reliable. No mechanical problems other than normal wear items such as tires, muffler, and brakes. Great gas mileage. Fun to drive - very zippy.
