Style over substance

I have bought over two dozen new Toyota’s and the 2023 Venza Limited was so poorly designed I sold it a week after I took delivery. It was, by far, the worst new car experience I have ever had in over forty years. From the outside, it looks great. However, style doesn’t overcome the very poor ergonomics inside including limited space, no place to put anything, and a illogically placed start button. The large 12.3” display is simply too large and extends too high and is distracting. But the main issue is a design flaw caused by the deep 10” square hole in the dash for the HUD display. The windshield, in order to reflect the projected HUD display, is highly reflective. The speakers in the A frames reflect brightly on the windshield. But the reflection of the bezel around the deep cutout for the HUD directly in the drivers field of view looking down the road. This is not the actual HUD display but simply a reflection of the bezel and cutout in the dash for the HUD display. Because this reflection impairs the view of the road neither my wife nor I felt comfortable driving the vehicle. Toyota Customer Service agreed it was distracting but offered no solution. The dealer was, sorry, you are stuck with it. Even if you can overcome the poor ergonomics you should stay away from the Limited model at the very least or any other Toyota model that has a similar HUD design. It truly is a very bad design and surprising that any design engineer could think otherwise. I could have lived with the poor ergonomics. But not being able to see clearly down the road was the last straw. So if you are thinking buying any Toyota model with a HUD display be sure to drive it first during the day with the sun in front or to the side of you to be sure you can live with it. I sure couldn’t.

3 Months ...Disappointed

I am 3 months, 1100 miles into ownership and this is the most disappointed I have ever been with a new car. The infotainment system radio has cut out more than a half dozen times and recently I could not get any audio at all. Eventually I pulled over and turned the car off and let it sit for a few minutes and when I started the car again the audio started to work. Recently while running some errands with my wife, we came out of a store and the car would not start. Eventually I received a message on the dashboard to hold the key fob to the power button and try again. When I did the car started and unfortunately at the same time the alarm system engaged. The blaring horn scared an older gentleman standing outside the store. It was fairly embarrassing for both me and my wife. At this point my wife has said she will not drive the car (fortunately we have a second car) and she is insisting we re up our AAA membership in case the car dies and we need a tow. I had the presence of mind to have my wife videotape the car not starting (couldn't do it when the radio wouldn't work because every time I tried to videotape the radio would just shut off. I think it had to do with the bluetooth connection (I have an Iphone). I would do anything to have my old Honda Civic back.

Infotainment system ruins the whole thing

Mechanically the Venza has been good so far. We have had no real problems there. It is a little bit loud with road noise and the storage inside could be done better. The mapping and infotainment system have been awful. No infotainment system is perfect but this one has completely soured me on Toyota. The android auto can be finicky about connecting even when hooked directly with a cable. The mapping software is hopelessly out dated. The rural maps are pathetic. The supposedly dynamic navigation(as Toyota calls it) is dynamically bad. Even with it going online to get updated road conditions it is inaccurate. The app doesn't offer services that other manufacturers do. It is slow and buggy. It doesn't recognize the VIN of our vehicles without calling customer service. Speaking of customer service, they have been as helpful as a rock and about as communicative. I can't see us purchasing another Toyota with this kind of aggravation from what is supposed to make things better.

Overall is good. While I already got the limited trim and passenger seat can be adjusted by button, but why I can't adjust the height of it? All my friends and family when they enter the sit the seat they all feel uncomfortable about the height there and their head almostly hit the roof lol. Secondly, the digital rear view camera. 5/10 times I have to maunally turn it off and turn it on or the screen won't working. I'm pretty mad about it because I just got it brand new for about only one month! And my sales told me that it is pretty common among all the venza owners because of the shortage of toyota production, the toyota rush to produce and handover the car to the customer, so it's just a small bug, while toyota canada made no response towards that... Me: wtf?? Last but not least, it's every time when I brake on the bumpy road I can always hear the nosie at the bottom. It sounds like my bottom was scratched by something I don't know and I can feel my brake lagging a little bit. Although I bring my car to the dealer, the mechanic there didn't find anything wrong about it.... So I decide to come to another toyota dealer again to check about it. Have to say 0/10

Loud

10k miles in, my biggest impression is that this is the loudest vehicle we’ve had since purchasing our 2012 Prius V. It is so loud, I no longer like to drive it at all. I also drive a Ford Maverick Lariat hybrid, which is much quieter, and, oddly, has more pick up than our trusty Venza. It’s bad enough that, although we love looks, styling, and comfort, we either need to invest in new tires, or sell the dang thing. No point in having a vehicle you can’t stand to drive.

Boy, what a disappointment. Should have examined and driven it more. Very complicated "hitech" controls, useless screens, poor visibility among other things. Miss my 2008 Avalon, Toyotas version of a Cadillac with reasonably good mileage.

Hybrid tech is a hoot. It has been two years now, still haven't cracked 10,000 miles. Toyota offers free scheduled maintenance up to 15,000 miles or two years. At the 5,000 mile point I was no where near 5,000 miles but would have liked an oil change. They refused to do it. Many suggest the wisdom of an oil change 1,000 miles on anew car. After some back and forth they changed the oil when the 10,000 mile check came do and I had less than the 10 and not quite 5,000 on the odometer. Doesn't Toyota reimburse the dealership to the cost of "free" services? It is a lease so next year they may get it back. It probably won't have 15,000 miles yet. They didn't change the oil at the 15,000 mile free maintenance in July. Their argument is it is wasteful to change 5,000 mile synthetic oil before 5,000. It is no skin off their teeth, I offered to pay for the oil. Are they reporting these maintenance cycles to Toyota as "completed"? The Senza middle line trim is a Lexus in disguise. Built in Japan (long boat ride to New York) it reeks of the cultural attention to details and quality. The driving I do often shows on the screen as averaging 50 mpg between electric and the 4 cylinder ice. Can't beat that. And on the interstate on ramp it scoots to 60 in less than 6 seconds. Speed limit on I81 is 70, just about everyone is going 75 to 80 so you can't meander. I just may keep it at lease end, and change oil on my schedule.
