I have been a Tacoma owner since 2006. It is a Pre Runner with the 4.0 liter V-6. It now has almost 300,000 miles on it. Only thing done to it other than routine maintenance items is front wheel bearings. The truck still runs as good and is still as dependable as the day I drove it off the lot. My daughter took a liking to it so I haven't seen it much in the last couple months. Decided to get another one and went with a 2021 Tacoma TRD Offroad. Another great one. The TRD feels more solid with a quieter ride even with offroad tires. I had read about shifting problems in the newer style Tacomas as well as road noise complaints. I don't see how people can say that. It's much quieter than my 2006 and the only time I feel it shift is when I getting on it or in 4WD low. I HIGHLY recommend this truck, nothing on the market that can come close in its class. An added note; I'm 6'5" tall going just over 300lbs. It's plenty comfortable for me on long trips. More comfortable in the Tacoma than my wife's luxury Genisis.

I don’t understand the bad reviews it’s just as I expected it to be for a midsize truck no problems so far at 13k

I have had the truck seven months, 3000 miles , been to dealers three times for terrible engine noise in the valve train , dealer says normal ,fuel pump LOL , will try to get rid of it most dealers tell me to get it repaired before they will take it, $50.000 gone never pay cash ,If I owed a lot on it I would leave it at Toyota, .Got tired of my new gas powered truck sounding like a diesel. Sold the truck extremely glad it's gone. Shame I really liked the truck.

Bombproof reliable but needs refinement

First off, in the mid size segment lets be honest... Toyota is the best option. It's more reliable than the competition and the resale value reflects that. Having succumbed to what is best for me like dragging myself into the dentist, I got a new Tacoma Limited. It's not a bad truck, but it is very much a truck and what I remember my old 76, 87 and 93 Toyota being. Gone is the tinny tink of the doors and loud noise of literally everything reverberating inside the cabin yet it still rides like a truck. It becomes unsettled on expansion joints and washboard becomes a mariachi band as it hops all over. steering is a little vague and tends to be tiring on long trips as it will never just self center perfectly and hit the spot you must make corrections pretty much constantly. The transmission is all I have heard, which way did they go George comes to mind. You turn and get on a freeway onramp and the thing seems confused on what to do. In traffic under light accelerator it can clunk, hesitate and then abruptly jump up or down a gear. The engine sounds labored at best. Overall, I take this rough around the edges with a grain of salt. I trust the thing will most likely never see a service department unlike the Jeep I had which had a punch card but the tenth visit was never free. I just wish Toyota spent a little time refining what could be a great truck with a little more polish. The Irony? they are priced nearly at the luxury car bracket.
