Used 2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Consumer Reviews
Hunk of [non-permissible content removed]
Less than 12,000 miles and so far the blower fan has exploded and the charcoal canister has been replaced. Poor performance and has the comfort of a tank.

Very poor acceleration and shifting
2017 limited, V6 AWD, top the line. Very poor (slow and jerky) acceleration. You feel the engine working hard when RPM change from 2 to 3 to 4. Small slope requires high RPM. This is so different from my previous Lexus RX 330. The rear camera alarm stopped alarming within a month. Will sell it.

Fantastic vehicle but Gen 3 takes a few steps back
Pros: It's a Toyota truck. I fully expect it to run long after the body falls off. Utility & capability are both great, and it can go pretty much anywhere with 4x4 terrain modes and a locking diff. Though its got a long wheelbase meaning tight trails or steep drops will pose issues with turning radius and break over angles. Cons: Even though the engine has plenty of power it feels gutless. This is likely due to gearing choices and an overly aggressive shift pattern intended to improve gas mileage but it can be annoying in stop and go traffic. Finally, the entertainment system is a complete joke. I understand that touch screens are all the rage, but this is a truck, I can't use the screen wearing gloves or with dirty hands. Second, Toyota has decided to build their own interface instead of allowing Apple Car Play or Android Auto. Toyota isn't a technology company and nobody wants yet another app (especially a poorly made one) to control the infotainment in their vehicle. To add insult to injury the navigation system is horrible. It's hard to add an address and when you do it often can't be found. Traffic conditions aren't usually accurate so there's little value in the built-in system. My phone sitting on the seat has none of those problems. Overall: If you're looking for a great, capable midsize truck, this is about the best there is.

excellent truck
I bought a new 2017 6 speed manual. I use this as my daily driver in Alaska. It handles the pot hole and rough roads very well, I love the manual transmission.

Under-powered & transmission in Tacoma Disappoints
Make sure you don't expect the mileage on the window sticker. I have purchased three other Toyotas, and one in 2016, they have always met the mileage ratings this one falls at least 20% below. Transmission is seems to shift all of the time, and unless I am going down hill seems to really suck the gas. The truck is clearly too heavy for the engine. I had a Dodge Ram with a 318 back in the 90's and this is better than that but this is disappointing. I added 200 lb fiberglass SnugTop cap and added two leafs under the rear springs because when on highway on corners the truck pulled hard on corners traveling on highway - the rear end suspension designed for Off Road, so says and mushy. The added 2 aftermarket rear spring leafs made all the difference for another $450. I blame engineers that probably didn't drive this after they worked up the specs. You should be able to make an off road that handles highway curves better. I wouldn't buy the Tundra because the gas mileage is even worse. In 1994 I had a 1989 Chevy Silverado pickup with long box not extended cap but was every bit as heavy as this truck actually heavier and would get avg 19.5 mpg, I get 17.3-17.5 avg on my Tacoma with Atkins cycle engine and thats with a lot of highway miles. I have the fabric seats which are tough but do not clean easily. Truck is solid, ride is good for 4-wheel. Found keeping Kevlar tires that were on vehicle pumped to 38-40 helps mileage vs 32-34 psi the dealer likes to inflate.
