Look at FRAME first !!!!
I am the owner of 2005 reg cab 4x4. It has a huge problem with rust on the frame. The rust is not all the way thru but it already has started and I have never seen rust like this so early. Frame actually looks as if it belongs to a truck 20 years old! I would only recomend this truck to someone living in a very dry area. I will not purchase another Toyota because of this. How safe can it be to drive down highway with nothing holding the truck together? I wish I would have known before purchase. Too bad, I get over 25 mpg with A/C on in city!
jt thunder's review
Love this vehicle, everything is tight and works the way it should. Very Comfortable, and good manuverability. The "built-in" bed lining is an especially nice feature. Handles great in the snow and off road (and on the job site).

Quality Second to None
I've been looking for a truck for years before finally settling on the new Tacoma. The Nissans didn't drive well after a few years, and the older Toyotas didn't come with much in the way of standard features. I got a basic regular cab 4x4 with the 4 cylinder engine and 5 speed manual. For a very basic truck, it comes loaded with many things that make it fun to drive everyday (cd player, ABS, etc). I was skeptical about the "knob type" transfer case shifter, but it has worked seamlessly so far. Overall it's nice to be able to drive something that does what a truck should do, and still feel like a raised camry.
Tradition Continues
I love my truck. Its fun to drive. Large cabin provides comfort on long trips. Engine power plus fuel economy 27 -30 mpg. Same great Toyota build quality.
Beware of Delphi Battery
Great truck; however, the GM parts contribution of the Delphi battery spewed battery acid all over the inner fender and hood. $836 (warranty paid) and two weeks later (in a rental car, also warranty paid) the body shop is still trying to repair the damage. So, including the battery the total cost to repair is about $1306, or 8% of the purchase price. Other than that I love the truck and can't wait until I get it back. I suggest not taking delivery until the GM battery is changed out.
