Used 2018 Toyota Sienna Minivan Consumer Reviews
Great Sienna Van, BUT...
This is our 2nd Toyota Sienna Van. The 2018 model is a great, good solid van, but miss all the nooks/crannies our 2010 had for storage, big drawback...it had door arm rests that lifted up for storage within, it also had a smaller console openings for nick nacks, and this new model has no extra storage spaces like that, and no extra storage under the 3rd row seats when the seats are in the down position. The a/c is not powerful enough. The driver’s vent can’t be positioned directly on you. The turning radius is even better than our previous van. The rear window is a bit smaller though, so we bought one of those panoramic rear view mirrors to help see what is around us. That helps a lot. The front seat head rests are set at a very uncomfortable, awkward angle, especially for long drives. It causes severe neck spasms. We recently took a total of a 22 hour drive, by the end my neck was in severe pain. This has been an ongoing problem with Siennas our 2018 & our 2011!!! When is Toyota going to fix this problem??? All the new safety features are a big plus. Absolutely, not a fan of the black carpet. We ended up removing the black carpet mats and replaced them with grey rubber mats (Weathertech) that hide the dirt better and are easier to clean. The center console is too deep, plus the black interior of the console makes it difficult to find things. It desperately needs a light!!! We ended up using tall, white plastic cups to store things in them, to be able to see items better. The heated front seats are a nice touch, but the supposed heated steering wheel doesn’t hardly get warm. All-in-all, we are pleased with our 2018 Sienna Limited Premium, Toyota makes great cars, but there is room for improvement. I’ve been buying Toyota’s for 45 years!!! Sure do wish the Hybrid was available when we bought this one...SAD!!! They became available the year after our purchase. ☹️ P.S. When we drove off the lot with this van we didn’t notice it was missing the roof rail crossbars. We confronted the dealer about it later. You would think a top of the line Toyota Sienna Limited Premium that costs almost $50,000 would have the crossbars included!!! I had a nice in person discussion with the manager of the dealership’s Internet Sales. She was kind enough to agree to add the roof crossbars at no charge. Our biggest gripes are... -The a/c vent for the driver’s side can’t be directed on the driver -Toyota needs to bring back the many storage areas the 2010 model had -More storage is needed under the rear seat when in the flat position -The heated steering wheel needs to be warmer or temperature controlled -Positioning of the front seat head rests need to be redesigned…they are terrible -Sometimes the second row seats get stuck in a jammed position -There is no hook to hold a trash container like there was on the 2010 model -The center console needs to be redesigned as it is too deep and dark… The center console needs bright lighting.

Minivan and Awesome in the Same Sentence!
I never thought during my lifetime I would call any minivan awesome, but the 2018 Toyota Sienna SE truly fits that description. I tend to call it the "man's minivan" due to its sporty styling and nearly 300 HP V6. The ride is firm but very smooth both on back-country roads and on the open interstates. Handling is very good and NVH is second to none. There are two things that I would like to see improved on this SE... 1. The 8-speed transmission does a great job at keeping the engine in the right powerband given the situation that is demanded of it but in doing so it shifts A LOT. It would be great if there was a 5 or 6-speed mode when all those gears aren't needed. I know the 8 speeds are necessary to be able to achieve the 1 mpg better fuel economy even though the engine has 30 more horsepower but I suppose I'm just not quite used to that many forward gears! 2. The cupholder located right below the HVAC controls is rather cheap and flimsy, and really looks and feels like an afterthought. All-in-all, this is an awesome minivan that has plenty of cool factor and quite a sleeper when it comes to performance. Updated Review 9-4-2020 This is still an awesome minivan! It has performed flawlessly over the past 2 years 9 months of our ownership and hauled 7 or 8 of us on various vacations. High Points... 1. Plenty of power, never has felt labored at any speed 2. Great HVAC system down to the controls 3. Radar-controlled cruise control and lane control system has helped me be a smoother driver in higher traffic situations. Low Points... 1. Sometimes there is a pretty poor throttle response (bad hesitation) from a dead stop. Not sure what could be causing this. It was like this when new but I thought it might be something that would eventually go away. This happens at part to half throttle. Update 3-4-2022 Still delivering great performance and a smooth ride for my family of 6 after 4 1/2 years of ownership. Biggest complaint I have at all is the part-throttle hesitation especially from a dead stop. Dealer hasn't seemed to be of any help with this nor has claimed to have had anyone else complain about it. Otherwise this is still an awesome machine for the whole family!

good family car; poor service. Side Mirror defect
good family car for value. Lots of space, easy to get in and out. We have had two sienna's. 1st the base model, then upgraded to the limited. the limited has really nice features (back up cam, parking assistance / warning system, keyless door entry, heated seats, sound system, etc). My biggest issue and why we may never buy Toyota again (I know I know... but it's been a really bad series of experiences) is (1) their service department at Stapp Interstate Toyota in Northern Colorado has been really dismissive and unresponsive and (2) both side view mirrors click / jostle when accelerating or decelerating. It is a really distracting and started within a year of owning a brand new car (on both mirrors). The customer care team told us this was normal and even tried to tell my wife it was an 'auto adjust' feature. (trust me, the loud 'adjustment' is not normal and happens at random times when accelerating or braking). I took the issue to their management team thinking there is no way a company would try to justify that loose mirror housings on a car are normal but sure enough ... they doubled down. It's really mind blowing. Anyone else have this issue? Otherwise I'll say its a good family car for space and storage. The road noise is high (its a big hollow box) and the moon roof has a little wind noise but this is pretty normal I think. We've had other issues with their service department that aren't worth noting here. I just can't support a vehicle (company) that would sell a vehicle and allow something that appears to be a clearly defective safety feature.

People Haulers
Drove the gamut of Vans this year....Honda, Kia, Ford, Toyoa and others not worth listing. The Honda is too low to the ground for my use. Just opening the sliding door can hit the curb and damage the door. Very poor design in my opinion. It is peppier of those I drove. The second row seats are more flexible than Toyota, for sure! Honda reliable is not as good as Toyota. Honda, their tranny was not one of the smoother sifters in the group. Kia have better appointments than most vans but thought it was noisier than the others. Kia reliability is getting better. Overall, I would consider buying one. They are pricey and best to buy a used one with 6k miles on it or so. They depreciate quickly. In my readings, Vans can depreciate quickly in all models. Honda and Toyota keep their prices inflated, base on marketing hype. Ford has no V6 engines in my van..forget it. GM does not make vans like KIA and Toyota make...they have given up on this market. Just like they did small trucks years ago and now they came back to the market. I have likes and dislikes of the Sienna. The most likely model to get is the XLE Trim line. One is forced to buy the top of the line model packages in order to get many things for safety, like sonar -front in one package and rear and another package- all for a front and rear sonar parking and backing up safety package. I do not need or can use, all the other stuff in those packages. Toyota is just not that safety concerned, overall for the driver or owners of their vans- even considering all the stuff they have added-they omitted the most useful. Other makers have more safety features at the lower trim levels. The dash could be better laid out and have more options for the driver to choose and check out the engine mechanical and functional of the vehicle, per se. Headlights are not that bright. Could be better. All model trims should have the best safety feature and most of all, the best Headlights and all makers should do it. The second row seats are not easy to collapse..could be easier. It does have lots of cargo space with the seats down. The passenger seat should match the driver seat in power functions. It is very limited. Not many USB ports or charging outlets as some of the other models. Toyota is playing a game with their navigation package. It changes as the trim line changes. As for me, if I have to have a cell phone in order to use something -an auto that would not be needed normally- it is not for me. Their screen for multimedia could be easier to use. They have the push button start, with is not one of my favorite things. At least, they do not have the Stop-Start crap. Nice size van, overall.

Sienna Limited (almost Premium)
Does exactly what it should and nothing more. Needs exterior lighting updates (LED) and other Limited level features (individual tire pressure display for TPMS), programmable side view mirrors (open at engine start and close at engine stop), plus factory option for 2” receiver trailer hitch and wiring. Time has shown me that a couple of inches of additional floor-to-ceiling height in the second and third rows (and rear rear hatch opening) would make this van much more versatile for transporting bikes and larger items.
