RAV4 hates I-17

No low speed torque means maintaining 65 on Sunset Point meant the transmission would kick to near redline just to maintain uphill speed. Even on Phoenix freeways, anything over 80 was a struggle for the 2.5 engine. AZ-89 was too much for the RAV4, entering curves at over the ADOT recommend speed was a scary experience. Grond clearance was adequate for forest service roads, but serious off roading is out of the question, even with LT tires. As has been my experience with many Toyotas, the 2.5 just doesn't have the power to provide an all around driving experience. The front seats were adequate in terms of size, but became uncomfortable due to shape and minimal padding. For a compact SUV, cargo space was adequate and was able to hold a reasonable amount of landscaping accessories. The RAV4 would have gotten 2 stars, except that gas mileage was impressive on mostly mountain roads in Arizona. A 400 mile trip from Chandler to Sedona and Prescott used less than 12 gallons.

This my first suv from Toyota and I’m very disappointed with the way the hood is shaking when you are driving on the highway at 80 miles per hour it looks like the hood is not fully engaged

Terrific safety features, great pickup, good sound system and interactivity, and very very comfortable to drive. Great maneuverability and glad this one has heated seats, a power liftgate, auto lights with the feature where the highbeams are on but turn off whenever oncoming traffic approaches.

The passenger seat is as awful as the reviews say and the rear hatch area has more rattles than an 80s Chevy S10 Blazer. In comparison to my 2019 Corolla Hatchback this car is a complete disappointment and besmirches the once great Toyota name. They are now like Tesla in that they care only about profits and are happy to produce low quality, poorly built vehicles. The driving experience doesn't get much better because the wind noise is absurd, it's top heavy as hell and rides pretty rough considering the thick but skinny tires. Fog lights deleted for 2024 on the XLE? WTAF? The transmission shifts like an idiot and worries me that it's going to meet the same lemon law fate a lot of Camry's are for that very transmission problem. The dealership experience is no better this time around. The sales guy was absolutely GROSS and slimy and proves that the dealer only cares about one thing; get 'em in, get'em out! Same with the service, if they can't BILK you for every penny in your savings account then you and your car do not matter one tiny bit. They'll "fix" your concern then give you back a car that has more issues and rattles than it did before you brought it in there. If you have to buy a Toyota only buy one that was built in Japan but beware that the quality has likely taken as deep a dive as the styling has. It has been such a shame to so quickly fall in love with the brand after being a lifelong loyal fan to GM who never EVER did me like this. I can not wait to be rid of this car, and my beloved Toyota, so my driveway can be exclusively GM once again.

I went car shopping with every intent to buy the Rav 4, but immediately after sitting in it, I felt it was cheap and plastic. I didn’t buy it. I bought the Crown Signia, very nicely appointed car. I think if you want something like the Rav 4, look at the Lexus NX instead.
