Say NO to the RAV 4.
The transmission makes a mooing nose when accelerating from a stop and going to a stop. The transmission is jerky from a stop and when not completely stopping the transmission will downshift causing you the driver/passenger to jerk forward when attempting to accelerate. The vehicle road noise is bad, you have to talk loud or turnup the volume on the radio to hear the music. If you see this vehicle RUN AWAY...................... If you're still set on getting this car, I would give it a true test drive outside of the dealers designated course, or rent one for the day. My opinion has not changed, it is a NOISY car and the transmission after the code update has removed the jerky from a rolling stop, has an acceleration issue as the engine will rev up(not anything crazy, but still not normal) before the transmission will fully engage. Plus it will up shift while accelerating and then the transmission realizes it can't pull the car in that gear and then will downshift. Then there's the issue of just failing at high speed, that is the car will shutdown on the highway putting your life in DANGER.

Don’t buy
I paid extra for the package with the back up camera, don’t bother. The back up camera continually malfunctions or is non functional at all sometimes. It works about 20% of the time. I took it to the dealership and their response was “couldn’t reproduce the problem”. Finally less than 1 Hour later it happened again and I took it back to the dealership. say they have to call the Toyota engineering department. What a joke should have kept my Jeep

Extremely loud back up noise
The pedestrian warning noise while in reverse sounds like bad brakes squealing. It’s so loud that it wakes up the entire neighborhood. It’s a high frequency and it kicks on anytime the car is in EV mode and is extra loud in reverse. Horrible ear piercingly loud. Also the back seats do not fold flat and because of the angle its importable to take a nap in back unless you build a platform. I can’t wait to get rid of this nightmare car.

Disappointing
I own a 2013 Rav4 Limited model, but recently had a 2019 Rav4 as a loaner. I was shocked! The changes they have made over the years in the remodels are for the worse. The buttons are not placed well, hard to read, and complex. The have brought the level of the center console up to make you feel so closed in and claustrophobic. The GPS is ridiculous up on the dash - mine is built into dash. Everything about it was surprisingly disappointing. I guess I'm done buying Rav4's. I'm on my second one with the 2013, but that is the end. The newer body styles and updated features are actually cheapened quality and way less user friendly. Don't recommend buying one.

Still going great after 7 months!!!
After 7 months of ownership of the new 2019 RAV4, I look forward to getting in it everyday going to work and bringing the kids to school. I am averaging 34 miles per gallon on my route to work which is 29 miles away from home, driving between 45 to 55 on the speed limit. Believe it or not but my eco signal on the drivers display shows I have better mileage going 55- 65 miles per hour sometimes showing 40 miles per gallon. I fill the tank once every 5-6 days and usually it costs about 25 to 30 dollars to completely fill up the tank. I have had one oil change so far. Very affordable!!! Overall I have had no problems at all and would highly recommend it!!!

What a steal for under 30 thousand
This is my third rav. best yet. Sportage is so cheap looking and rides like a truck. love the rav.
3 Ravs in a Row
This is our 3rd Rav4 in a row. I never had a Toyota until we leased our first Rav in 2014, again in 2016 and now again in 2019. All 3 models have been the LE with AWD. We couldn’t have been more pleased with each year and car. They truly are a nice dependable vehicle. The LE is the base car with all the features we needed to get us into a good AWD vehicle. All 3 years of the Rav4 vehicles have been excellent, and I mean each one can deliver great in the snow as my 4wd truck. Now we began a new lease with our new 2019 Rav4 LE AWD... tell you what 3 years of technology can change, it’s fascinating how much in gone into safety from 3 years ago. The new engine is flawless and the new 8 speed transmission is smooth. Comes with Apple Car Play that is super handy. The cost difference in 2016 to 2019 is very small. 2 thumbs up Toyota, see you again in 3 years.

Recently Toyotas Highlander and RAV4 having issues
Reading about all the transmission issues in RAV4 reminds me of similar issues with their Highlander transmission in the year they last redesign. Just 10k miles and the $40k+ suv did not take off at the traffic light after full stop! This is disgusting. Reading about the same issue with RAV4 seems all the same as their Highlander the year they redesigned their transmission. Most likely as they get more complains they will fix the issues in next models but it sucks for the owner who spent thousands in their new Toyota models. No one deserves this quality from a new car
Gave the nod to Apple
It's difficult to get an android hooked up. I still haven't figured out the radio, the gps, etc. Love the pre-collision and pedestrian detection and most of all the lane departure alert AND the side warning system on the mirrors!

I would never bought a RAV4 until now
I bought my Adventure fully loaded and love it. Yes, the motor is a bit noisy under hard acceleration, but it does accelerate. It has Safety features galore. I have taken it off road several times and it does great, It’s multi terrain mode, downhill assist and Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive (TV-AWD) with Rear Driveline. If you want a car that looks like a SUV buy the Honda or Mazda. If you want a true dual-purpose SUV and this is the one you should buy.
Love the changed look
It is roomier than the 2017 Rav I leased. I agree that acceleration seems sluggish and noisy when trying to accelerate. But, since I'm not out to race cars, I can live with that. The safety features are an awesome addition and the ability to now use Car Play on my iPhone is a welcome choice for Bluetooth use. I also see an improvement when it comes to signal with SiriusXM, and possibly an improvement with cell signal. I have it in Lunar Rock with black interior, and get compliments on it.

RAV4 Limited = Junk
Do NOT buy a 2019 RAV4 Limited or Adventure. I owned a 2019 Limited and the grinding, growling, mooing sound from the driveline disconnecting and reconnecting around 25 mph is a joke that Toyota should be embarrassed about. "We know of the issue but have no fix", thanks, I took my loss on the vehicle and traded it in on another brand. I doubt I'll be back with Toyota again.

The older models were better
I leased my Toyota Rav4 in May 2019 and there is nothing about it I like. It's a very loud car. When you step on the brakes it jumps so it always seems like your slamming the breaks too hard when your not. When you step on the gas it jumps so the vehicle seems to take time to accelerate and then you are speeding. The 2019 Rav4 is larger than the 2016 I had before, which I don't like. The low tire light seems to come on a lot. In the 2016 Rav4 I had the navigation system was build in but now you have to plug in your phone which don't make a lot of sense to me...why not just use the phone. A month after I leased the vehicle I tried to take it back for something else but Toyota of Portland told me that I would lose my whole down payment I put down. I am stuck with a vehicle I hate for the next 3 years. I will never lease or buy another Toyota again.

Raves for the Rav4. 5 stars
Smooth ride, seamless shifting, great room in second row and cargo area.
2019 RAV4 Hybrid pluses and minuses
I just purchased the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid after test driving all the other compact SUVs either at the dealers or by renting them when traveling. I picked this one because of the impressive acceleration compared to all other compact SUVs. Smooth quiet ride. I'm glad I bought it. All the other compact SUVs are pretty gutless. BUT, here are the gripes: 1. No Android Auto. This is a major minus after seeing Android Auto perform in the other compact SUVs. 2. Keyless only works on two front doors and lift gate. So, to put something in the back seat, I have to unlock the front door, open it and press the unlock button. All other compact SUVs have ways to unlock back doors with taking keys out your pocket. 3. Backup camera is the least capable of all the other compact SUVs. It does a very poor job of showing cross traffic when backing out of a parking space.

Accelerator stopped working
I bought a rav4 2019 last march 2019, for few months it runs great but with minor issues like The L1 L2 for the seat position do not work. Just today on my way to work, the accelerator stopped working even if it tried to filly step on it. I came to a full stop and waited for few seconds, tried to step on the accelerator pedal again for halfway but it didn’t work. I tried to fully stepped on the pedal then it started to work again. What causes this problem?
2019 Toyota RAV4 Limited FWD Above Average
I purchased my new 2019 Toyota RAV4 Limited FWD, not a hybrid 25 months ago and I have been fully retired since December 2020 and not driving as much having only 22,000 miles on my odometer. My overall mpg is 27 mpg with mostly city driving in short distance trips of about 15 minutes and when I take long trips between Louisiana and Alabama it gets 34 mpg. Engine noise is average, but road noise is disappointing considering the cost of this vehicle. My RAV4 is garage kept and well maintained and always looks like it just came out of a showroom. I have not had any problems with the power train that has a lifetime warranty or electronic systems with a 10 year maintenance agreement. The navigation system maps are original design and Toyota has not released any updates for the maps since 2018 for my vehicle that does not have an SD slot. I mentioned the map situation since my vehicle cannot get me to the new New Orleans International Airport that was relocated in 2020. The Entune 3.0 Entertainment and Information system receives updates via the cloud automatically when released. The acceleration is average, but better in sport mode, and all the safety systems are outstanding. Comfort in the front and rear seating is very good. I updated my initial rating because of the longer ownership with no problems to report. My Android cell phone interfaces with the vehicle perfectly except it does not work with apple car play like my wife’s apple phone that can link current maps using that method perfectly. I have a trakfone costing me $120 a year and her apple iPhone cost her more than that per month. I highly recommend this vehicle and advise others to purchase the newer model years from dealers offering it with a lifetime warranty on the powertrain and purchasing a 10 year maintenance agreement on everything else with a no deductible.

So upset
This is my fourth row have for lease and after two Weeks, I wish there was a way of trading it in. The car is way bigger than my last row of four. It looks from the outside as if it is the same size as the Highlander and even though it is boxier in front and Toyota says it only is bigger by about an inch, there is no way this is true. It jolts back and forth and it’s really uncomfortable. The front seat is not comfortable.

THE TITANIC OF TOYOTA'S
Engine noisy . constant smell of antifreeze . too many blind spots . drivetrain hum at diffrent speeds . cabin lighting is poor .oil change intervals too long at 10 k . 7 k is more engine friendly . to put it simply my wife wanted this suv . i never owned a rice burning jap car and i never will . for me 47 years of Chrysler and jeeps with good self maintaince yielded me well over 250 k per vehicle . perfect example: there are vas amounts of mid 90's cherokee sport jeeps out there with well over 250 k plus miles as my 95 has 232 k on it . so as for toyota and head gasket subaru's , you can have them. Over priced crap...........................
450 miles test ride...
I've made the trip from my daughters house in NY to Pittsburgh many times in my Buicks … this time rented a Toyota RAV4.... it was from long island NY to Pittsburgh. I was pleased when they said they "upgraded" me to a SUV because the car I rented was not available. But when I finally got home and went to the gas station for the second time I could not believe the numbers for the MPG. It got a little less than 23mpg? It's a 4cyl buzzy little engine that downshifted a thousand times during the trip... and only got 23mpg? My daughters 310HP V6 equinox gets over 27mpgh with 3 people and two large dogs with performance that's much better. The other thing I found out is that over 70 mph you loss stability... something I've never experienced in a vehicle in 50 years. The speed limit was 70mph in a large portions of my trip but I had to keep the speed to 65mph to be comfortable in this vehicle?... The short wheelbase and high stance makes for a uncomfortable unstable ride over 70mph... something my Buicks do with ease... and with far smoother more quiet ride... and much better mpg? Not sure what the MPG is around town... if the MPG is 23 on highway? Pretty disappointing rental to say the least.

Adventure all class
3000 km's to date and unable to fault. I did initially notice some hesitation when accelerating from a near stop but this has settled and the car accelerates smoothly. Mostly using the eco setting and achieving 5.5 to 7.5 litres per 100km on around 80% rural driving. Around the farm on gravel and mud tracks no issues detected. Suspension gives good balance under mixed surfaces. Steering is much improved on the previous model. May 2022. Odometer 45000k. Still really happy with this vehicle. 2 negatives. Dust sealing on the rear doors on gravel is poor and the standard tyres on 19inch rims have been prone to punctures and had to be replaced at 43000k. Much better now driving on Maxxis RAZR A/T 245/65 R17. Better all round comfort and suitability for highway, gravel and off road.

2019 RAV4 - Almost perfect!
The 2019 RAV4 is a huge difference/upgraded from previous years in my opinion. My must haves were; Heated seats, Moon Roof and remote start. With the exception of the remote start, the other two features are great and traditional. As for the remote start, it works, you need cell phone app to use and I do not like this feature for a couple of reasons: 1 - WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SMART PHONE? 2 - It seems to take too long for contact the vehicle to begin the remote start and that may be due to some wifi/internet fault? 3 - I like the classic way to remote start with the key or a key fab; I am in control not the opposite. 4 - There is NO traditional GPS and you have to hook up your Smart Phone, that you may not have, and rely on the app that has to be downloaded to the vehicle and the Smart Phone that you may not have. Such a great vehicle but very myopic in my opinion.

2019 RAV4 Adventurer AWD-Not a Hybrid
Purchased this SUV back in May 2019, 9 months ago. Drive 70% in city and 30% on highway in Slidell Louisiana. Slidell Toyota was offering a lifetime power train warranty at the time so that was a plus. It was a bit pricy, but I traded my 2018 Kia SUV in for it. My city mpg is 26 and my HWY is 38 mpg, overall is about 30 mpg, but only drive it in Louisiana. I got the regular bumper to bumper warranty and got the Adventurer upgraded with options similar to the Limited. It came with the Toyota 2 year free maintenance and free unlimited car washes at Slidell Toyota. I actually have no complaints. The engine noise is a little loud, but it is very comfortable since I am a senior and been retired a long time.

They don't make Toyotas like they used to
The reason my wife and I purchased a new 2019 Rav4 was because of Toyota's reputation. I had always believed that they were incredibly low maintenance and that you never have to worry about things doing wrong with it. Over the course of four years, we had a few electrical componnents and censors go wrong which were not cheap to fix. We also experienced water getting into the back right door. My aunt also has a 2019 Rav4 and she has the exact same issue on the same door. After a downpour, there's always water in the door. To me, this is unaccaptable for Toyota. My two stars is not just because we've had to do some repairs, but it's because I feel like Toyota has a reputation of being extremely low maintenance. We just traded the Rav in for a new Chevy, which is something I never thought I'd do.

Does most everything decently and acceptable
2 1/2 years and almost 20K miles. Absolutely no issues . Incredible fuel mileage, confidence on the road , solid and very stable and predictable on the highway. Great visibility , drivers seat best with a cushion added for long drives. No rattles , no squeaks , feels like all the other Toyotas I have owned. Transmission has “smoothed out “ quite a bit as the mileage has gone up. Like many other vehicles I have owned and driven driver adaptability to the vehicles individual personality is paramount to enjoyment. Fit and finish is superb, paint job shines like it is brand new. It is not garaged here in New England. No pitting, rust or visible signs of wear on the wheels or molding. Very good in the rain and snow. Standard sound system lacks a CD player, but an add on portable DVD player plugged in sounds fantastic. Good FM reception and dynamic range. Very pleased and satisfied with this purchase. Would only consider trading it in for a Highlander for more room. Otherwise, it is a keeper. I have purchased 10 Toyotas in my lifetime, this is the most refined out of all of them. Recently took a 260 mile round trip, the majority highway driving and averaged 36.6 MPG according to the data in Eco mode.

It's important to note that the vast majority of issues mentioned in reviews from 2019 have been resolved as a result of recalls and software updates. This car is pretty bulletproof and I've only loved it more after driving it for 6 months (7k miles)!

RAVioli !!
The 2019 Rav4 XLE AWD is fantastic! This was my first new car purchase and I wouldn't have it any other way! The interior is exquisite with an amazing array of features and gaskets. There is A TON of cargo space, I took my buddies golfing the weekend i bought it and of course I volunteered to drive! I was able to fit all 4 full golf bags and still had some room left! The Rav has good power, noticeably more power than the Mazda CX-5 i test drove before finding this masterpiece! Oh and it gets an EASY 35+ MPG highway, 28-30 MPG around town. Fun to drive and nice to look at, this new and improved RAVioli has it all!

Rav4 LE is a Yugo in a new skin. Do Not Buy LE
Pros.. Car has 4 Wheels, windshield, and 4 doors with a hatch. CONS- no power seats, no auto daytime running lights, no auto on lights, no power lift gate, setting up bluetooth is a huge pain in the ?$&, only 1 intermittent wiper speed. All the CONS make this car a throw back to the 90's. It is unbelievably lacking in modern features. Do NOT BUY THIS LE ( low end ) model if you have driven a car produced prior to 1990 as that is what features the Rav4 LE has. To be fair the car does handle nicely and its quite. If possible upgrade to the XLE model.

Great Buying Experience
Great car but lots of electronics which they catch you for getting a maintenance agreement at the back end of purchase. I guess it is true with most cars now so not much a consumer can do.
Not what you think
The remote starter is part of remote connect. If you do not pay $80 per year for this service, you cannot use the remote starter, it won't work even with the key fob. The heated seats are a joke, they barely get warm on high. The foot activate lift works about 60% of the time. It doesn't notify you it is low on gas until it is down to 15 miles before you run out and then it doesn't ding, only diplays a message. You cannot lock the doors while the vehicle is running unless you remove the key from the key fob and manually lock them and then you must manually unlock them as the key fob won't work once locked with the key. I was told I could connect my android, but they do not have android auto, only connections for the Iphone. It does have some really nice options, automatic bright/dim headlights, it will almost drive itselft staying in the lane most of the time, automatically breaking when you get too close to another vehcile, the foot activated liftgate is great when it works, the remote connect app has a find my vehicle section, shows how much gas your car has, you can lock and unlock your doors with it. It is really nice when it works.

Nice car but needs some refinements
I'm surprised Toyota never followed up with questions. At any rate, I have the Limited Hybrid. Pros: great mileage (over 42 in summer; 39 in winter); trim is decent; entertainment center intuitive; space acceptable, nice pick up due to battery; sound system is good; voice recognition has gotten better over last 5 years (previously owned Avalon) but cannot compete with Google. Cons: lane assist is kind of a waste of time; cabin noise is good/not great; back floor board covering spare is flimsy; no Android Autoplay; seat memory impossible to figure out; manual front passenger seat (on Limited!); seemed to "skimp" on a handful of things but probably why they want you to buy Lexus
Brand New
The vehicle does not like heavy or high winds . Its like a kite on a string , worse behind a tractor trailer. A lot to hold onto in windy conditions. Radar cruise control picks up vehicle in the over lane at times . Radar cruise cant be disabled. No lumbar support for driver in the SE model . What does Toyota say " Lets go places" ??? A lumbar support should be standard in all vehicles , instead of a dual gate performance shifter in an SUV . Rear seat does not move , makes the hatch area very tight for large items i.e. wheelchair . You cant always put the seat backs down. HEADLIGHTS omg., The headlights actually draw a line across the road in front of you. There is no fade into the night at the end of the lights travel. Depending on road , you cant see very far in front of you . We use the high beams a lot. The vehicle can "pair" you cell phone so you can speak hands free thru the radio display unit . BUT it disables your maps "voice" on your phone. You can only use one or the other. Not as happy with this Toyota as we thought we would be.

Rav 4
just got it last night so I haven't had time to explore - love the way it looks, love the bells and whistles. Good ratings
Noisey
Thought we'd make the move from Camrys to this little crossover SUV for it's safety features. The safety features are impressive. What isn't impressive is the road, engine and wind noise. The ride is a little on the rough side as well. Add to that a rattle noise in the steering column or instrument panel that comes and goes depending on speed and road surface. Another surprise issue is a case of torque steer that occurs when hitting the gas aggressively while passing. This causes the vehicle to pull to the right, toward the vehicle you are passing. On the plus side, the interior is pretty decent for a vehicle in this price class. The addition of rubber tray type floor mats is a nice touch for those of us living in New England or other snowy places. The mileage is decent. On long road trips with the car loaded we can get up to 34 mpg when driving in ECO mode. Overall, I'm unimpressed with this vehicle and probably would not purchase another RAV4 unless improvements are made to remedy the issues mentioned. Toyota should consider shifting some of their TV advertising budget over to quality improvement. Now, two years into ownership, the same problems or dislikes still exist. I did narrow the rattle down to somewhere in the steering column, but have yet to find a cure - very annoying. I will add that the the expansive front windshield and expansive black dashboard top surface make a great solar heating source. The car gets very hot on sunny summer days which can challenge the air conditioner. September 2021 - finally found the rattle location, where the top of the ateering wheel meets a cowling in front of the steering wheel. Made a plastic “wedge” to insert there and it stopped the annoying rattle. The large black dashboard top creates a lot of heat on sunny days. Very poor idea to have that large an expanse of black surface. It's like riding in a dutch oven on sunny days. I would not buy another RAV4 with a black interior and a very large windshield.

I love my new RAV-4!
I love the redesign of this car. Toyota beefed up the RAV and I think it looks great. I did expect a little more leg room in the back but it works. It has great cargo space for the size of the vehicle. I love the sport mode for getting on the freeway!

Exactly what I expected
Ride is smooth enough. Not exactly whisper quiet but I didn’t buy a Cadillac. Really impressed with the MPG. Consistently get 40 on the highway. Transmission was slightly jerking for the first 1000 miles but has since calmed down on that. It isn’t exactly luxury but it’s a rav4, I got it to last 300k miles.
Not what is said on youtube about the Rav4
I see nothing wrong with the sound of the engine as they say it's loud I was perfectly happy test driving it But since I'm so close to the 2020 model coming out I'll wait for that instead

RAV4 2011 BLIZZARD PEARL PAINT PEELING
My car's paint started peeling on the roof between the windshield and the moonroof about 2 years ago. It got progressively worse and is almost gone. Now there is paint bubbling and peeling on other areas of my car. Not one of my previously owned cars (Honda, VW, Suburu) had the issue of peeling paint. None. I have lived in the same area as well so no condition changes. I've been reading on the internet that this seems to be a common problem for Rav4's with Blizzard Pearl paint. I am not sure what my recourse is and/or if Toyota will take responsibility. Other than this, I have had little to no problems at all. I love this car, just so disappointed in the paint.

Overpriced
My brother owns this particular model and the new ravs are definitely ugly and overpriced. The only two things I like about the car is updated interior and safety ratings.
