Used 2009 Toyota RAV4 SUV Consumer Reviews
MY First Non-American Auto
This car has great gas mileage, handling, performance, style. Forget the frills the Chevy equinox has and buy with confidence. When I purchased the car the dealer said see you first oil change. To my surprise that was the only time I needed the service dept. I own 3-5 vehicles for years and this is the first where I did not become friends with service adviser fixing warranty problems. My son and daughter got rid of their Chevy and Pontiac and they are glad they did also. My gas mileage is 24 to work and 28 on trips.
Rushbaby
First, I have been driving toyotas before I was aloud to drive...35 years. I have owned used and new. I had a 2005 rav4 ...great car. Everything about that car...5 stars. I bought a 2009 limited V6 3.5 and it is a nightmare. The suspension recall fix involves an epoxy seal on the links which make the adjustable links...unadjustable. meaning...if the rear is out of alignment. ..you have to pay $500+ to have the recall fix done again. I have never had to do anything other than maintenance to my toyotas. This one...3rd pair of shocks...this time i used monroe shocks. ER brake cable...drive train assembly ($1400 part). Blower motor...Such a disappointment... I have 150000 miles on the odometer and it runs great. Done with it. After I updated my review I started experience more problems with this car. I had to have the rotors resurfaced again. Problems with the steering also started to progress. Recalls for the master switch for driver's side window and wiper motor. Toyota stopped making their own parts in 2006...huge mistake. This car became a full time job. I am a car guru and visit dealerships 24/7 chose to get rid of this car before it depreciated any more. I had a hard time finding a dealership that would give me decent money for the trade. The day I traded in the 2009 my 2005 limited (not a v6 and a lot less options) was worth 2000.00 more. I have to say that I am disappointed in the Toyota Corporation. Their business decisions have affected their automobiles. Putting their dealerships in the position of not being able to be honest with customers about their cars has enabled me not to trust Toyota corporation anymore. I was fortunate to be able to put my car up on a rack anytime I needed to check anything. Many people don't have that luxury. I see people driving their cars on the road with the suspension recall and the rear wheels out of toe. ..scary. If I get the opportunity to talk to them most say that they did not know because they had the recall fix done! I take excellent care of my cars...it's a lemon. Since the last time I reviewed this car I look at the rear suspension of other 2009 rav4 cars on the road or parking lots. I have not found one yet that the rear wheels are not out out of toe. I even speak to other owners and inform them about this make and model. This car has a lot of safety issues. Why Toyota thinks it is OK to drive a car around with the rear wheels out of toe is beyond me. I will not own or recommend Toyota to anyone again. ...they have lost a longtime customer and consumer promoting their products.

Ok Suv , but handling and transmission was bad
Most factory recall of any vehicle I’ve owned, both foreign or domestic. More blind spots than Stevie Wonder. Water pump needed to be replaced every 25,000 miles. Transmission replaced at 50,000 miles....and yes, all maintenance schedules were followed. Handling was fairly unstable, I had more confidence in the 1999 Ford Explorer handling the Rav replaced. Automatic transmission was absolutely despicable, rough shifting and would hesitate when turning and accelerating. One of the very few cars I regretted buying.

Not worth the price/poor value/poor workmanship
questionable gas mileage at best, 4cyl is noisy, paint is the worst I have ever had on a vehicle, chipps to easily, toyota should put a full case of touch-paint in every vehicle. Has a tendency to accelerate, and the start stop button does not work as it is designed to do, alot of times the vehicle will not start when button is pressed. Toyota techs are even sure how to fix this problem nor can they explain how this is occuring with more frequency.
Good SUV
The V6 engine has great performance. Quiet engine. Fun to drive, easy to park. I like the controls and fold down seats. Good gas mileage, 23/25 town, 27/29 highway. I am very disappointed in the ride, it is more like a truck, not smooth at all. Also the headrest are not comfortable.
