Used 2005 Toyota RAV4 Consumer Reviews
Break Failure
My wife bought the 2005 Rav4 4 years ago, and has had to replace the rear breaks 3 times, going on four now. Everything else about the car she loves, but the constant issue with the rear breaks is causing us to sell. In their infinite wisdom, Toyota cheaped out on the rear breaks making them disk breaks, not drum breaks which they should be. We live in northern Vermont, 3 mile up a gravel road and my wife has to drive over a mountain pass everyday driving to work. Needless to say, we need working breaks, and the Rav4 has not provided it. The dealership has worked with us a little bit, but we still have speny about $2000 over the past 4 years on breaks alone. Very disappointed Rav4 owners!
Beware of a Few Things Before Pruchase
My RAV is actually an '04, but I feel that I should share my experience. I liked the vehicle at first, but several things began to bug me. First, I found the front seats front seats to be very uncomfortable if driving more than 30 minutes, and so did my passengers. Second, the back seat has horrible leg room - a problem if you have back seat passengers on a regular basis. Third, the rear hatch door seems flimsy and items fall out too easily. Also, the cabin seemed to cramped - and I am only 5'8" and 150lbs. My previous car was a Civic and somehow the cabin of the RAV seems smaller!I traded my RAV in for a '05 Honda CRV SE - much better vehicle over all - tons more room!

Loving it!
I've had my RAV less than a week...but I already love it! I purchased the "L" model with everthing but leather and heated seats. This is a great little suv. The fuel economy is wonderful (I'm averaging 25 mpg so far!) and it really is a fun car to drive. It's extremley stylish with room to spare. With Toyota's reliability and great build...how can I not recommend this car?!
Thought more of a Toyota
My wife purchased this without test driving other cars. Fell in love at first 10 minute drive up the street. Almost 1.5 years later she has been constantly begging to trade in for something with more space (the folding back seats do not lie flat), better gas mileage, and a smoother ride. For a vehicle built on the corolla platform it rides more like a hummer (military version). She is so dissapointed, that she will not consider another Toyota.
Brake problem
My wife bought rav4 2005 from maplewood brach and it has a sever problem of brake during snow and cold weather. It slides on very little snow. Even if you are driving low and try to stop it skids. It doesn't stop immediately as you step on the break. It keeps going with a sound gggggg struggling to stop. So my wife is not happy to drive during snow time.
