2004 Prius -- Early Experience

Vehicle has suprising acceleration due to electrical motor assist. Start/stop of engine while driving are seemless and hardly noticed--not noticed if you are listening to the radio. Ride is quiet and controlled. The most striking difference between the Prius and other vehicles is the small steering wheel, which takes some getting used to. In short, there is not a more technologically advanced vehicle on the market, at any price. It's too early in life to rate reliability, but I have been impressed with build quality and past experience with Toyota suggests that reliability will be good.

We average between 45 and 50 mpgs. Great little car. Plenty of room inside for four adults. No complaints at all. Wife loves it also.

The first no-compromises hybrid car

The new Prius brings hybrid cars into the mainstream. Power now feels comparable to many sedans and it gets up to 60 mpg! It’s also much larger and more refined than the old model. It has remarkable space inside, with generous rear seat legroom and lots of luggage room with the new hatchback and fold-down rear seats (very Saab-like). I got mine fully loaded with SatNav system, Bluetooth, side curtain airbags, Smart Entry (*very* cool), and much more. All this for about $26,000 (base price is about $20,000). In summary, this is simply a great midsize car that happens to also be the greenest car on the planet. There are clearly no compromises in this hybrid.

This car is quality throughout and fun to drive. The base price is good and optional features are top notch. The milage is great and speed and pickup are good.
