Used 1994 Toyota Pickup Regular Cab Consumer Reviews
Best bargain around
Mine is a base model, 5 speed, no ac. Got it for $9000 new while in college. Still have it and it's about like it was when I first got it, 96000 miles ago. The timing chain went at 85000 miles, so I got that and a warped cylinder fixed for $500 at a local shop. The thermostat needed replaced a couple times in the early years, but that was cheap. That's all I've had done with it.
1994 Toyota Pickup
Purchased the truck new in 1994 for my daughter who was in high school. She drove it thru HS and college and then took it to Chicago for three years. It was returned to me after that time and my wife has driven it since then. It's been a very dependable vehicle - has never let us down. No major work done on the engine. Have it serviced regularly. Never need to add oil between services. Body has some dents and scratches but not too bad for a 12 year old truck. It does not have power steering so it takes awhile to get used to the steering. Great little truck!
Simplicity at its best
I've been driving this truck for roughly 65k miles, and it's still running great with 166k total miles on it. The 22RE engine is a tank, and will easily make this truck last well into the 200k mile range. The stock tranny is starting to show a little wear on the second gear synchro due to the abuse of a previous owner, but there are no major problems with this truck. If you're proficient at double-clutch, the tranny and clutch will last forever. Keep RPMs below 3000 until it's warm, and she'll treat you well for a long time.
Keep going
Purchased this truck in 2003 with 125K on the truck.. Paid 4,500 @ that time and had timing chain and clutch work done.. Today @ 220K put another timing chain kit and oil pump, water pump and new belts on the truck.. What can I say the truck has been super for what I do drive it to work and crawl around in the mountains with it.. The way it is running now I am hoping to put another 80K on it.. Man what a truck.. I looked at new trucks but I just couldn't see the value in a new truck when this thing keeps going and going and going.. Thank you Toyota, the 22RE will have to go down in history as one of the greatest engines of all time... I am asked daily to price the truck.. No Way!!!
The best vehicle I've owned
My truck has been great! It had excellent gas mileage for a truck and very comfortable (especially driving from N LA to Pensacola about 4xs a yr). Only had to have minor work done, oil changes every 3k and it did great. Unfortunately it was involved in a accident with a 2008 GMC6000 recently. Crazy enough I was able to drive it home, where as the GMC was towed.
