Used 2004 Toyota Highlander Consumer Reviews
Better than Expected
Have had this car for about a month now and I love it. Was driving a Volvo and got sick of the repair bills, so I'm looking forward to Toyota's famous reliability. The ride is exceptional and it handles far better than you would think a 5300 pound vehicle would.
Beware of the tires
Having never owned a Toyota we were expecting quality and refinement and the Highlander delivers. It replaced a 97 Volvo wagon and there is no comparision.

air leaks around window switches and map pockets, moon roof sw doesn't seem to function as discribed in owners manual. Trouble finding closed position. Steering tilt adjustment could be lower by 1 inch for long legs. Heater coil could be larger.
A good SUV with a few flaws
Had it for 6 months. Previous cars include Accord, Nissan Quest. Good power, comfortable and solid. Handles nicely. Quiet when windows are closed. Performs well in snow/ice. I truly enjoy driving it. Music system is excellent, NAV is very confusing and appears less capable than the Honda Pilot's. Susceptible to easy scratching inside and out. Wind noise is bad, but the low frequency reverberations when the back windows are open or sometimes when the moonroof is open by itself produce intolerable discomfort. A tolerable ride with moonroof or windows open without too much noise requires continuous adjustment of the windows depending on the speed.
Nice SUV
Great SUV, new powerful 3.3L engine, smooth riding, lots of standard features, lots of space and drives like a sports car.
hilux surf

well toyota make very + good vehicles.i had six of them 86/cressads/96landcruis/98cruis/01 rav4/01highlander/now 04 ighlander i love the 04 great suv.the only thing on the 04 the gas burn like a v8.i dont know if the tank hold less gas than the 01 but it burn gas.
A Good Choice
I spent 30 years driving domestic cars and recently found myself disappointed with Chrysler. I was in the market for a car-based SUV and chose the Highlander since I know many happy Toyota owners. Can honestly say I have never owned a new vehicle that has been this good from day one. No warranty items in first six months of ownership. The fit and finish is world class and the interior materials are of high quality. I am satisfied thus far with both the engine performance and fuel economy. I do not drive the V6 aggressively and average just over 20 mpg. The Highlander has met my expectations. Am glad I paid a bit more for the Toyota and did not buy a lesser quality product based on incentives
Great First SUV
If your looking for your first SUV, this is your car. The V6 AWD has a very smooth ride. When you first get in the car and look around you will find that their are no blind spots! Which is a plus for a SUV. The standard features are ample, and you really feel like you are getting the most for what you paid for. The third row seat is a nice feature. The only problem I see with that is the very limited leg room and the inability to easily get in and out. All in all, this is a great vehical. Have no regrets and I'm sure you won't either.
Great Car
This is the first SUV I've owned. Great car. Quiet and smooth riding. Handled great this past winter in the snow and ice. Hoping for better gas mileage
