Used 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Consumer Reviews
Amazing vehicle
I am a retired mechanic/technician in several fields. I have own a couple Ford Explorer Limited's and loved them. In March we traded our 2017 Ford Explorer Limited in for our 2021 Highlander Hybrid Limited. I am amazed at this vehicle with the comfort, ride, quality and technology that has been put into these vehicles. It amazes me every time I get behind the wheel. It averaged 5.3 L/100 km (53 MPG Imp) to and from town which is 20+km each way, 7.1 L/100 km (40 MPG Imp) on longer trips. I live in New Brunswick where you never go far without climbing a long steep hill. It has shown that I can get 863 km on a tank of gas. I drove from Mid-west New Brunswick to Annapolis Valley Nova Scotia on 3/4 of a tank of gas showing 687 km on the trip meter and 122 km to empty. 3rd row seating for larger people is no good. I don't use the 3rd row and most of the time even the 2nd row. My wife who hates to drive even enjoyed driving this vehicle as she said "it practically drives its self with all of the safety features. I would highly recommend the Highlander Hybrid to anyone who doesn't want to jump straight into Electric. I love the expression on some peoples faces pulling out of a parking space and they are hearing that slight hum but no engine noise. If it can impress an old mechanic like me, I'm sure anyone will be impressed, especially with the comfort, smooth ride and fuel mileage.

Passenger seat
When you spend 50,000 plus on a platinum hybrid, you would think the passenger seat would be equivalent to the drivers. Guess again, Toyota eliminated most of the quality standards. The passenger should be as comfortable as the driver. Most other high end car brands show respect for the passenger sitting adjacent to the driver. We should have done a better job of asking questions before purchasing.

Interstate MPG
One full tank down the interstate on a calm day at 78 mph half way and 81 mph for half way, 22.7 mpg. Mostly flat with little rolling hills 1/4 or less of the way. Seems any speed greater than 65 will have a dramatic affect on mpg
We love our 2021 highlander hybrid xle
We bought the front wheel drive one. Gets great gas mileage. Perfect size for our family of 5, our 6 and 8 year olds fit nicely in the back. It's a very quiet drive. Bright front lights. Noiseless windshield wipers. Beautiful leather seats.

2021 Highlander Hybrid Limited
This is our first hybrid car. We've owned the car about 2 weeks now, and less than 600 miles. My biggest complaint is the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System. Essentially, it is a way to alert pedestrians a hybrid car is approaching. All Hybrid and EV cars are required by the NHTSA to have these systems by Sept. 2020. Toyota has placed a speaker behind the front grill of the car and emits a whining noise when the car is placed in reverse(louder) or moving less 18MPH. If the car is parked in the garage and put in reverse the sound is amplified by the walls in the garage. One of my complaints is that Toyota sales people should be trained to tell customers about this feature, and/or perhaps we should of paid more attention when test driving the car. We bought the Highlander Hybrid version due to it's high fuel economy ratings. But after owning the car and driving it for the past couple weeks, we should of purchased it with the standard V6 engine. If you are thinking about buying a new EV/hybrid vehicle make sure you check out these pedestrian warning systems, some are louder than others. Overall, I like the 2021 Toyota Highlander, just wished we bought the standard V6 version. Toyota needs to finds some other way to meet the NHTSA safety guidelines.
