Used 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV Consumer Reviews
High Quality Practical SUV
Very comfortable, powerful, spacious practical SUV. Excellent leather heated ventilated front seats plus heated 2nd row captain chairs. Plenty of cargo space good towing capacity of 5000lbs. Great safety features. Excellent sound system. Only compliant steering assist is excessive, very little road feel.

Highlander 2020 with 4 cylinder is what I'm
Highlander 2020 with 4 cylinder is what I'm forward too. I have test driven the 2019 Highlander hybrid and I like it a lot. I own a Prius V five and it depends what time of yr your driving plus your driving habits to get great gas mileage. In the summer I do average 45 mpg but in winter its more like 35 mpg. You also have to drive more conservatively, what I mean is you can not be pushing the pedal to the metal on every take off and I use ECO mode. I assume all the Toyota hybrids are going to be about the same. If the 2019 or previous Highlander hybrid says 28 mpg I'm sure it does in warmer weather, using ECO mode and driving easy but in winter I'm sure it probably falls to 22 mpg. The new 2020 is supposed to have a 4 cylinder and get 35 mpg so probably in winter expect about 28 mpg. This was one reason I didn't buy the 2019 plus a few other reasons. I also drove a RAV4 and like my Prius all windows are auto up and down but on Highlander only the front windows are auto up/ down hopefully in the 2020 all 4 will be. I like the digital dash of RAV4 more, the rear view mirror is also a digital mirror on RAV4, RAV4 has better safe sense technology at nightime and comes with a full size spare. I almost bought the RAV4 but the placement of the cupholders in front suck and that's why I did not. I really want the 2020 Highlander and I read that the electronics should be more upgraded like the RAV4 so that's what I waiting for.

24 month update
Update part 2 Because of COVID any alternatives to this SUV are unacceptible due to shortages and new product delays. Toyota had a rash of new vehicles to come out this year and early 2022 but looks like bad news for customers. All cars and trucks need auto stop at low speeds for all objects in the back and front. Safety is more important than electric windows and speed control. Also audio and visual coliision notification needs to be around the whole vehicle. People drive like complete idiots and will pass you at high speeds on both sides with very close tolerances. Impossible to see these folks in the blind spots and they ignore your turn signal and even pass in the emergency only/ side lane pull off. Update part: Don't buy if you have difficulty getting into high off the ground vehicles. This vehicle does not have the advanced perking assist like a Prius. Just be aware when you are shopping for vehicles. Ride makes you feel protected and secure on the interstate. Side mirror sensors are not enough warning for a driver on the interstate as nobody stares at their mirrors constantly. Almost had a collision on the interstate because of it. Factory radio and amp voice navigation inoperative/but fixed. My front seats carpet and center console had to be removed to replace the JVC amp. Gouged my dash while doing the repairs. Known issue by Toyota and the dealers have not been notified (I had to tell them and provide a Toyota document on how to do it). They hope nobody will notice/hello. Not my typical experience with Toyota and will never buy another vehicle that is not totally made in Japan if I can(as long as that continues). My Prius is perfect! Please don't mess with the Prius! Be advised that the front side sensors will not turn red until after you have hit the wall. Camera (very poor contrast on the camera and display) does not tell you how far you are from the wall or give any warning before you hit the wall. Camera markers for the front angled sides do not catch the full sides to protect against collisions. This is a safety defect that needs fixed soonest as we paid a fortune for this SUV to include front parking assist for insurance against slow speed collisions. Auto stop backwards and forwards is a must. All Toyota Hybrids need to have the same vehicle on/ off functionality. Prius turns the car off and puts it in a safe gear mode (this vehicle is still on after you push the off button/you have to be in park to turn it off). Center and side front sensor has been deleted for this vehicle and is unacceptable. Be advised this is a gas hog and I get 28-32.2 MPG with a Prius calibrated foot. If you drive this like a normal SUV you will get 28 MPG. Having different hybrid functionality between models is very confusing for the customer. Make all hybrids as close to Prius functionality as possible (standardization and interoperability). No slow speed auto stop like the Prius. Back extra bench seat is unusable and needs to be deleted as an option. Inadequate cargo space with it up. Front drivers seat needs more padding on the bottom rear aft cushion as it was deleted to put in AC for the butt! Painful drive after 30 minutes. Suggest trying the new RAV 4 Hybrid and compare it with the Prius. Or get the 4 runner if you need a tank. Lastly, bigger is not always better. Driver seat comfort on a long drive is critical for all vehicles. This vehicle had a hood and tailgate that are too heavy. Suggest aluminum for those parts and get rid of the back bench seat. Slide a 4cyl Hybrid option once the weight is reduced. Also smaller tires need to be an option as this vehicle is very hard to get in and out of. Suggest a step side addition if you get this vehicle.

Great car. Takes some getting used to.
At first I was not sure about the 2019 HIghlander Hybrid. Now, after about 1K miles, I love it. Hope the car continues to impress. To Kasper Toyota in Sandusky and to Alicia, thanks for working with me. Great dealership, great sales person, great service.

Love it so far!! But after a year... meh...
First car I ever bought new. Really great car for the family and I know they will be safe. It was small. Not as comfortable as our Ford Explorer for our family. We sold it. Too small and not very good mileage for a hybrid.
