I just bought a 2000 Toyota Echo in 2019
In December of 2018 I experienced a huge financial reversal and good a friend sold me a 2000 Echo 4 speed coupe that he took in trade. Who knew that underneath all the dirt was a 65.000 mile gem. Fortunately my business and income is back to normal but I have no desire to let my Echo go. It's now January 6, 2021 and my Echo just turned 70 thousand miles and I drive it every day for short trips around Sarasota Florida. I'm 74 years old and I have to say that my 2000 Totota Echo is the most trouble free relieble car I've ever owned.

Hit head on at 292,000 miles
The 1.5 liter engine produces 108 horsepower. If that horsepower to liter ratio stayed the same a 6 liter engine would produce 432 horsepower...and get outrageous mileage. My Echo got 43 mpg overall and around 54 on the highway at 65 mph. It was hit in the front with 292,000 miles on it. Original CV Axles, original clutch, exhaust and all steering gear. Was going strong and will live on as generator power.

Echo's got Zoom
My little red Echo spoils me - incredible fuel economy, roomy interior, peppy attitude, and very durable (mine has been rebuilt twice from two accidents - I just didn't want to get rid of it). I've used mine for zipping around town and cross-country trips (over 2,000 miles at a time), and hauling my junk to and from colleges for years. My friends (and some mechanics) think I'm nuts when I say I plan to run this car into the ground before I buy another one. As long as you keep up with the regular maintenance, nothing short of a collision with a semi will destroy it.
A Face Only An Owner Could Love
The design of this car is nothing short of sheer comedy. Powertrain: excellent: peppy, great mileage, idles smoother than my Mercedes. I literally get over 35 mpg with combination driving 40 mpg highway. Great car, especially for someone in the used car market who seeks reliable economy. As long as they are able to overlook quirky styling, they are set for miles reliable driving. Car also has a timing chain instead of a timing belt which is great for overall maintenance, or lack of.
Good Buy
Bought mine brand new from the dealer, it hasn't been back to the dealer since. (Except for the small fact that nobody in my area sells the air filter yet) I have never gotten worse than 44 miles per gallon and my highest was 50. Only extras I got were cruise control and a CD player. I drive over 35,000 miles a year, so I just wanted a car that would last and got good gas mileage.
