Toyota goes cheap while others pony up!
I've owned several vehicles over the past 10 years, including several Toyota trucks, but this was the first Toyota car I've purchased for myself. My sister has a 2007 (9th generation) and its fit and finish and build quality and materials are lightyears ahead of the current 10th generation. Toyota seems to have traveled back in time with the 10th generation! Not only are the interior plastics cheap and not soft-to-the-touch, they scratch VERY easily. The dash, doors, center console, and key area are scratched like crazy after 24k miles, even with due care not to scratch them! If it weren't for the poor, cheap interior quality, I would probably have liked this car a little better.
Nice car (when parked)
This is a nice car in the S trim. Body kit makes amazing job beautifying this fairly dull car. Only grill remains dull. It is so smooth for a small car, you don't feel if it moves. But this is not enthusiast's car. It has no soul. You may accelerate hard but there is no feel of it. Steering is questionable. Interior is great besides some hard plastic in "should be soft" places, cheap controls and questionable location of the clock. Big trunk. Nice seats. Decent legroom in the back and suitable middle spot with flat floor beneath.
A Great Car
I have put 1200 miles on this car and I love it. I looked at several similar cars and it came down between the Corolla S and the Civic EX. I have driven a 95 EX for fifteen years and it has done an excellent job. Being 6 tall I need good legroom. I drove 3 new EXs, a very good car but who decided to put the park brake handle where my knee rest, this was unacceptable. The legroom Corolla S is fine the seats feel great. The mileage has been 36, 37 and 38 MPG, wished it was 48. I read that some did not like the electric steering, but I think it is fine. I also drive a Miata, the Corolla just goes where I point it and does not wander. Bought this 2010 at dealer invoice, no extra fees.
Fun Little Car
Reminds me of my 68' VW beetle. Nimble, easy to whip around in, easy to park. Has neat auto stuff like head lites, door looks when put in dr mode, int lite fades, keyless features. One major issue that others mentioned--the steering. It wanders, requiring constant mini corrections. The svc dept of the store advised me of a tech. Svc bulletin. A new elect module had to be replaced. Corrected the problem. Why was I not notified in advance this was a known problem? The cars appearance in my opinion better than the competition. I agree w/others on the seat material being cheap and a lint problem. Ditto with the clock location. One
Leaking water pump
Had to have the water pump replaced at 70K miles. Disappointing!
